Series Resonance
Series Resonance
When resistor R, Inductor L,and capacitor C, are connected in series with some frequency f,of supply
voltage V,thus the effect of inductor and capacitor cancel each other so that the circuit behaves as a
pure resistive circuit is called series resonance
DIAGRAM
In series resonance the total impedance of the series resonating circuit is the same as the resistance of
the circuit because the inductive reactance and the capacitive reactance in series resonance are equal
i.e Z=R
Where by the electric current flowing through the circuit is maximum because of lower or minimum
impedance
a)Oscillator circuit
c)Voltage amplifiers
PARALLEL RESONANCE
When inductor L, Capacitor C,and resistor R, are parallel connected together and the of capacitor at a
particular supply frequency f, therefore this condition of the circuit is known as parallel resonance
DIAGRAM
In parallel resonance the impedance is very higher in the circuit hence the current flowing through the
circuit is very low or minimum
a)Current amplifiers
b)Filter circuits
a)In siries resonant the impedance is minimum WHILE In parallel resonant the impedance is maximum
b)In series resonant the maximum current flows through the circuit WHILE In parallel resonant the
minimum current flows through the circuit
c)In series resonant voltage is magnified in the circuit WHILE In parallel resonant current is magnified in
the circuit
d)In series resonant the equation of effective impedance is presented as Z=R WHILE In parallel resonant
the equation of effective impedance is presented as Z =L/CR
Where
Z=Impedance
R=Resistance
L=Inductor
C=Capacitance
e)Series resonant occurs when a resistor, Inductor and capacitor are connected in series across an AC
supply and the inductor and capacitor cancel the effect of each other at a certain frequency WHILE
Parallel resonant occurs when a resistor,Inductor and capacitor are connected in parallel across the AC
source and the inductor and capacitor cancel the effect of each other at a specific supply frequency
