Static analysis of a tool using software

Aim: To construct the simply supported beam and cantilever beam with the defined
cross-section under a given static loading condition using CAE package and to also
derive the total deformation and von mises stress value for both beams.
Software used: Ansys workbench 2023 R2

Material used: Stainless steel

Properties:
Density = 7850 Kg m^-3
Tensile strength = 2.5 E^8 Pa
Tensile ultimate strength = 4.6 E^08 Pa
Poisons ratio = 0.29
Bulk modulus = 1.58* 10^11 Pa
Shear modulus = 7.75 * 10^11Pa
Coefficient of linear thermal expansion= 12 ×10-6 °K-1

Mesh:
Nodes = 828
Elements = 100
Transition ratio =0.272
Minimum edge length = 200mm
Procedure:
Cantilever beam
➢ First the Ansys workbench 2023 R2 is opened, then the units in top is selected
and changed the option to mm units and followed by selecting static structural
option twice present in the analysis system.
➢ Then the engineering data selected, in that structured steel is selected through
material selection.
➢ Now in geometry the beam required structured is imported in iges format. Its is
designed in Creo parametric 6.0 using part modelling procedures. After the
geometry incorporated the model is clicked twice. It opens the Ansys mechanical.
➢ Analysis systems→ statistic structural→engineering material→model generation

2
➢ This above shows the mechanical module opened via model in static structural.
➢ Then the material assignment is done to give structured steel.

➢ Now the next step the mesh is generated. The condition of span angle center
coarse is checked. Then the generate mesh option is given and mesh is obtained

➢ Now to give the fixed support faces and force value. For this we use the static
structural option, then right click using insert option introduce fixed support and
force.

From this required parameter

chosen

➢ In the fixed support one of the end face is selected. And corresponding forces
values are incorporated.
Steps to insert the fixed support
1→ right click the static structural
2→ the through insert choose the fixed support which we can see in the above snap.

➢ Now to get our required total deformation, von mises stress we need to import
using the solution option.
Solution→insert→ Deformation→total deformation
Solution→insert→stress→equivalent von mises stress: Solution→insert→stress
tool→safety factor>
Hence the parameters total deformation, stress and safety factory is taken down for result

Result:
➢ The total deformation, equivalent elastic strain and factor of safety are found
using CAE package by static structural in Ansys for both simply supported and
cantilever beam. Analysis done for total deformation, stress and safety factor the
following parameters.
Cantilever beams:
Loading condition

➢ In the above it is shown that in the T shaped beam the force application is shown.
The value of 10000N is given in negative z direction.
Total deformation

➢ This picture shows the total deformation of cantilever beam. The maximum value
of deform is 0.1498mm and minimum value is 0.016645mm.
Equivalent-Stress
➢ The figure shows the stress of the cantilever beam whose maximum and
minimum value of 1.52 MPa and 0.150MPa.
Safety factor

➢ The safety factor also analyzed using the designed beam whose value of 15
For the simply supported beam Loading condition

➢ In the above it is shown that in the T shaped beam the force application is shown.
The value of 10000N is given in negative z direction.
Total deformation

➢ This picture shows the total deformation of simply supported beam. The
maximum value of deform is 0.0038mm and minimum value is 0.00042395mm.
Equivalent-stress

➢ The figure shows the stress of the cantilever beam whose maximum and
minimum value of 0.2352 MPa and 0.00571MPa.
Safety factor

➢ The safety factor also analyzed using the designed beam whose value of 15
