INTRODUCTION

The tourism Industry‟ ‘s contribution to the world economy has grown

so fast in recent years that it has become one of the leading foreign
exchange earners in many countries. Ethiopia with its diversified
natural and manmade tourist potential can be one of those main
tourist-receiving countries of the World to increase its share of foreign
exchange earnings; however, it should develop and improve its tourist
facilities to a level of internationally acceptable standards. The
physical environment plays an important role in influencing
customer’s behavior, creating an image for an organization as well as
the image of the hosting city, and affecting social and cultural
interaction. As a result, corporations in Hawassa City should be
developing eye-catching and innovative environments to better
showcase their products, services, and qualities. The physical design
of a building has been proven to restrict people‟ ‘s behavior and has
the power to influence people's reactions to particular environments.
An appropriate physical environment helps produce quality
performance; if the environment is unsuitable, people often leave and
seek one that aligns more closely with their tastes and preferences.
For this reason, it is important for business firms to identify the
desirable behaviors of their customers and then set goals that
reinforce these behaviors, especially hospitality-centered Businesses
like hotels.

PROBLEM FINDING

One of the big economic inputs for cities such as Hawassa is tourism,
and when we ask the first thing tourists require when they are in town
is a place to stay, that place is a hotel. So hotels should provide the
greatest experience that the tourists and guests can get, they also

3|Page
should show off the good qualities of the city just to name a few
the Fikir hike, Amora gedel, and Tabour mountain, and emphasize
those qualities. Hotels are the best places to impress the guests of the
city so successfully that they extend their stay, are tempted to visit
again or share their experience so that the tourism income of the city
eventually increases. It is really in hotels we can create a good first
impression on the guests of the city. The city and our country have a
lot of culture, art, and people with unique identities and histories,
Tourists come to Ethiopia by considering these qualities that make our
country special. They need culture, art, social tradition, history,
security, and standard hospitality but the existing hotel design in the
main city area typically expresses European style with a low standard
of hospitality because of this, there is less movement of tourists in
Ethiopia than the potential it has. The hotel of the city is a potential
tool for interlinking the tourist with our culture efficiently and using
standardized hospitality by representing Ethiopian culture in hotel
design. therefore architecture interprets this view by representing
Ethiopian culture in modern buildings. Achieving this provision
architecturally should be through a design process that ensures the
sustainability of the building in its environment for many generations
to come and has the capability of interlinking the tourist with our
impressive culture.

METHOD OF RESEARCH
QUESTIONNAIRES;

Questioner is a data collection tool that allows users to create and

distribute surveys or questionnaires to gather information from
respondents. It provides a platform for designing and customizing
surveys, selecting various question types, and collecting responses in
real time. The tool enables users to analyze the collected data through
visualizations and export the results for further analysis. Questioner is
designed to streamline the process of data collection, making it
efficient and convenient for researchers, businesses, or individuals

seeking to gather insights or feedback from a target audience.

BENEFITS OF DATA COLLECTION FOR HOTEL DESIGN

The purpose of collecting data from questionnaires for hotel design is

to gather valuable insights and feedback from potential guests or
target audiences. This data helps in understanding the preferences,
needs, and expectations of guests, which can then be used to inform
the design process and create a hotel that meets their requirements.

Some specific purposes of collecting data from questionnaires for

hotel design include:

1. Understanding guest preferences: Questionnaires can help identify

what guests value in a hotel, such as room amenities, facilities,
ambiance, location, or services. This information can guide the design
team in creating spaces that align with guest preferences.

2. Identifying pain points: Questionnaires can highlight areas where

guests have had negative experiences or encountered difficulties in
previous hotel stays. This feedback can help designers address these
pain points and improve the overall guest experience.

3. Assessing expectations: By asking questions about guest

expectations regarding various aspects of a hotel (e.g., check-in
process, room cleanliness, dining options), designers can ensure that
these expectations are met or exceeded in the new hotel design.

4. Gathering demographic information: Questionnaires often include

questions about demographics (age, gender, occupation) to
understand the target audience better. This information helps
designers tailor the hotel's design to suit specific demographics'
preferences and needs.

5. Obtaining feedback on proposed designs: Questionnaires can be
used to gather feedback on preliminary designs or concepts for
different areas of the hotel (lobby, rooms, restaurants). This feedback
allows designers to refine their ideas based on user input before
finalizing the design.

8,Are there any historical or heritage aspects that should be taken into account when
designing a luxury hotel? If yes, what are they?

As we have asked the locals around Amora Gedel the site has great potential which
greatly benefits the luxury hotel like the lake which gives a rich appearance, fishery
service, boat service, and view..

And also the mountain with hiking and other activity

Even tho the locals don’t want the hotel to be built and other site limitations.

9,What type of room configuration and layout do you believe would be most appealing
to potential guests in your area? Describe it.

As we have interviewed Alpha Villa and Lewi Resort customers often prioritize having multiple
bedrooms with en-suite bathrooms for maximum privacy and comfort. Also desire separate
spaces for a home office, gym, or media room. Walk-in closets and dressing rooms.

10,What are your expectations regarding sustainability and environmental

considerations in the design and operation of the hotel?

Since the area used has weaknesses like a bad smell, robbery, and contaminated lake,
it is better to accommodate sustainable practices to treat the lake, avoid a direct link
between hotel waste and the lake, and use the mountain as a whole meaning it has
been deforested before so using it as it is.
