STATION ( ):- PROCEDURE – CATHETERIZATION OF THE FEMALE BLADDER

INSTRUCTION TO EXAMINER

Objectives:

This station is designed to test the candidate’s ability to

 Assess the safety of the mannequin.


 Position of the mannequin (clint).
 Identify indication for urinary catheter insertion.
 Explain nursing consideration before, during, and after urinary catheterization.
 Demonstrate appropriate technique on how to insert an indwelling urinary catheter.

Observation: Performing physical assessment of the bladder and perineum.

Score the task based on the following

 Score “1” for each point identified and explained correctly


 Score “0” if equipment is identified correctly or purpose is not specified correctly
 Calculate the total score

1. Explain the procedure to mannequin and sanitizes hand
2. Provide privacy
3. Positions the mannequin in
Female: dorsal recumbent with knees flexed and thigh externally
rotated
4. Assess the perineal area
5. Drape upper trunk with blanket and cover lower extremities with bed
sheet exposing only genitalia.
6. Maintain aseptic technique and done gloves
7. Place sterile tray on drape between patient’s thighs
8. Lubricate tip of catheter, clean meatus
9. Insert catheter, introduce sterile distilled water to inflate balloon and
check and connect it to urosac/urobag
10 Replace articles and wash hand then record procedure
