Compliance with these rules and regulations is essential for safety and is also a legal requirement. However, readers should note that the Rules and Regulations are not intended to act as a design specification. Compliance is intended to ensure that an installation is essentially free from hazard. It does not guarantee that the installation will be efficient, convenient or will meet other user requirements. RULES & REGULATIONS 01 | Residential & Agriculture FORNATURAL GAS DRAWINGS 10. a, 2 IP service shall be installed directly from the mainline Flow limiter valve has to be shown in the drawing along with IP servic. |P service has to be terminated outside the villa boundary wal. IP service riser and meter box should be at the same location. Gas meter and Primary Reguiator assembly with governor valve should be inside the ‘meter box t the boundary wall Gas meter size to be mentioned on the isometric drawing, Example:-Ga/U6-2.5r to 6m Max Ifthe meter is commercial, size of meter, regulator, diameter ofthe service pipe, commercial valve, distance ofthe valve, valve details, valve marker plate tobe shown In the drawing. Internal pipe routing to be marked in the drawing, (Outlet gas pipes below ground (PE-80) should not be passed through any hard surface or concrete structures or under the boundary wall. t must be easly accessible for the ‘maintenance purpose. Below grounc outlet gas pipes should be maintained ata depth of 60 to 80 cm from the surface level with warning tape, Inside the villa, the gas pipe diameter is minimized to 25 mm or toa maximum of 32mm. Allthe below ground gas pipes should be away from the common utilis, drainage pits 2s well as palm trees and heavy rooted plantations 3B. v7, 18 19, a. 2. 25. If the outlet gas pipes above ground, PEX pipe has to be installed with GRP coverings «along with inspection sleeves a each joints. PEXftings to be used at where ever necessary. Secondary regulator and customer control valve shall be installed as near as possible tothe kitchen and should not be accessible to young children, ‘The secondary regulator and customer control valve should not be installed a closed areas. it should be installed only in open ai areas. Each appliances shal be separated with individual secondary regulator and customer ‘control valves. load calculation tobe done before separating the appliances. From the secondary regulator tothe appliance, copper pipe shall be installed, Copper pipe routing to be restricted through the living room store, bathroom or any ‘other moisture area like laundry rooms. For the frst floor kitchen, riser should be installed with elther copper pipe or pex pipe, Sleeved house entry shall be installed along with house entry valve which wil be easly ‘accessible to the customer. ‘The pantries/itchen (which has gas systems installed) should be properly ventilated, If the copper pipe is passing through the concealed areas, PVC sleeves should be Installed and pre tested before commissioning the vila, ‘An isometric drawing should be submitted for al villa projects with details, All the contractors should follow the Natural Gas safety manual and instructions. 02 | Commercial - Government 1 2. 3. 4. a. 2, a IP service shall be installed directly from the mainline, Flow limiter valve has to be shown Inthe drawing along with IP service. Especially for labor accommo dation buildings. If the outiet gas pipe Is above ground, PEX pipe has tobe installed with GRP coverings ith inspection sieeves at each joints. PEX fittings to be used at where ever necessary, ‘The detals ofthe Gas meter room, OTS, Recess and Valve Box shal be printed on the {round floor and typical floor plans. 18. 16, v. 18. 18, 20, a. 22. 24. Architectural drawing must be matched with gas drawing, Load calculation to be done before separating the appliances, Corridor of S00mm x600mm (2M from building line) to be kept free for lying LP service and should be increased according to number of ,P services. Copper pipe routing to be restricted through the living room, store, bathroom or any other moisture are lke laundry rooms, Forelgn Utiity Clearance of 250mm shall be maintained from eas service line \Where ever possible, the gas pipe line below ground (PEBO ), should tun directly from the main ina straight line tothe riser and notin a Zig Zag way. as pipeline below ground (PE 80) should not be allowed to pas through any concrete structure, closed area, basement or under any construction (rooms) or through any ‘camper tke drainage or any other. Gas pipeline below ground (PEBO) should be buried between 600 mm to 800mm fram finishing level for LP service Installations. Gas Services will be designed to allow 450 mm clearance for all utilities, and willnot be installed within the range of 200 mm for any other underground plant. Gas services will | not installed where it may be subjected to harmful environments such as solvent, chemicals’ or high voltage cables. Every IP service sser must terminate with service valve. A primary regulator will be installed on all Gas distribution pressure services, The ‘normal location willbe on the riser just upstream of the service valve. The regulator will not be located inside 2 habitable or other closed structure, The gas services with valves and regulators for building should be installed inthe regulators room ora recess as per atached details (see attached drawing). 26. 2. 8B 31. 32. lf there is any existing building without recess, a governor box (meter box) shall be used and an external louvered recess forthe riser can be installed. The governor location shall be maximum of 3.0 m fram the building line. Only crosslinked PE (PEX) willbe installed above ground. PE pipeline wil not be Installed in or through structures or building unless is completely enclosed in a gas ‘ight casing which is sealed into the walls ofthe structure. The casing wil allow for normal movement of the pipe. ‘The riser shall be up to last parking floor if the building is designed with parking and it will be atthe highest level of the parking, From the parking, the riser should det to ‘the OTS directly and from there to the meter room. The parking floor must be ventlated from all around the sie of the building and must not be enclosed. ‘The riser shall nt be crossing the corridor or enclosed portion of the parking flaor to ‘enter the OTS, It shall be entering directly tothe OTS. If the building is designed without parking floor then the riser shall be taken up to the roof of the building and dropped below through the OTS, meant for gas cropper and to the gas meter room, by installing a house entry valve. ‘The recess forthe riser shallbe located as near as possible to the main entrance and face the road side always as per attached ‘The recess shall be continuous from the ground floor ane upto last floor which ends up tothe roof. ‘Any structural entity which comes through the recess also shall be recessed or provided withthe removable decorative ventilated aluminum louvers. For the sites of thie recess see the attached, ‘The OTS forthe gas riser should be only for gas and should not be used for any other services. (Electricity, water, AC or other services). ‘The sizes for OTS and gas meter room willbe dependent on the number of floars and 46. a7. umber of gas meters 2s per below details: For OTS size and details as per below: ‘The OTS must have an opening for maintenance. A steel grating platform with handrail shal be provided at each flaor in OTS. The OTS must be opened tothe sty and should not be covered and it should not be Provided with any electrical exhaust fans a the top. ‘The details ofthe gas meter room are as per below: ‘The gas meter room shall be adjacent to the corridor and OTS. (Ozawing attached). Ventlations must be provided atthe rear side ofthe gas meter room, which can be ‘opened to the OTS (louvered aluminum window 60em x 60em as per attached), “The door forthe gas meter room should be fire rated to meet the international stand ard procedure and it should be approved by the Chil defence of Sharjah, ‘Any electrical devices or sockets should not be allowed in the gas meter room, For each inlet of gas meter must be installed with valve and downstream secondary regulator in the gas meter room, ‘The gas meter room is only for gas meters and not for any other services or utilities, ‘The outlet ofthe gas meter should be copper pipe and the detalls forthe sizeof the copper pipe are as below. sh 52. 53. 55. 57. 03 | Industrial + Ifthe distance from the gas meter assembly and supply point inside the kitchen or pantry is less than 20 meter, the copper pipe size willbe 1Smm. + Ifthe distance from gas meter assembly and supply point inside the kitchen or pantry Is less than 40 meter, the pipe size will be 22mm. + If the distance from gas meter assembly and supply point inside the kitchen or pantry more than 40 meter, then the copper pipe shouldbe rerouted to reduce the distance. Ifthe working pressure is less than 21 mbar ithe pipe is allowed to pass above the false celling or Gipson board and, If the false celing is nat accessible to gas pipe then ‘an opening of 500 mm x $00 mm has to be provided at 3 meters of interval through 2 Jong route til false ceiling is completed. lf the working pressure ie mare than 21 mbar it isnot allowed to pazs the pipe above the false celing or Gipson board andit should be exposed (below false celing or Gipson board) The outlet Gas pipe should be away from all other Utilities for an minimum 250mm, ‘No Gas installations shal be allowed in staeways A shut off valve shall be installed to provide gas isolation in the event offre or other emergency situation, and the valve box must be located inside the flat and should be recessed in wall ‘The location of valve box shal be at the nearest to the main entrance door ofthe fat and the height should in between 1.60 m to 2.10 m, and the valve box size should be not ess then 250mmx250mm. The outlet pipe should not be crossing through any other flats or offices also shall not pass through toilet or any other moisture area ‘Gas pipe inside the ats or offices can be installed in brake wall concealed in sleeve and wrapped with quality tape. In buildings with gas, using alternate fuels (for eg, LPG cylinders) is not allowed. 41. The gas meters used in the commercial projects are of eiffeent size and capacity which is based on the required consumption and future plan ofthe customer. ‘The specifications of gas meters are as shown below: FLOW RATE 2. The minimum meter specifications of a gas meter used in commercial establishments lke cafeteria, restaurant, schools, warehouse, bakery, et. is G10-U16, 3. For sheds and office bulldings, G¢-U6 meters can be used. If requirement Is high, bigger meters can be used. For labour accommodations/labour camp G26-U2S has tobe used. 5, The types of ga pipes used in commercial projects are mentioned below: + For cafeteria, restaurant, catering, labor accommodation and bakery we should use I pipe from gas meter til supply point. + For offices, sheds and schools, the outlet external gas pipe can be PEX and the Internal pipe can be copper (22mm, 15mm). (GI pipe is acceptable from gas mater til supply point) j + For shopping mall and hotels the outlet pipe can be Gl tilfist floor and if we have ‘more floors the external pipe will be PEX pipe and the internal pipe can be GI. MS {carbon steel is elso used if the required flow is more than 4 bar + In labour camps the internal pipe should be always of minimum 63 mm. m 20. a 2 2B 14, 15. 16 vw. “The gas pressure inthe outlet pipe from gas meter will be 75mbar. It depends on the output regulator. “The gas pe with 7Smbar should be exposed and should not be above any false sealing For the outiet of commercial gat meter inside the building, it should be GI pipe and size ofthe pipe is designed according to the oad and distance between the gas meter assemblies and supply point. For the appliances which need 21 mbar, the secondary regulator should be installed rear the appliances. Allthe Gl outlet & inlet gas pipe should be painted with two layers including micro zine base layer and yellow color paint for protecting the outlet gas pipe from corrosion. (One control valve should be installed inside the commercial in a safe place or emer gency cutoff which should be kept at a height between 1.50 and 1.80 meter, so that the valve could be easily reached in case of an emergency. For various appliances, a contro valve should be installed foreach supply point in a sate place. ‘The gas pipe should be minimum 25 cm away from any other service pine or cables. ‘The e2¢ pipe (GI pipe) should nat be crossing any door or window should be below or ‘under these constructions. (Only natural gas should be used and the usage of any other fuels lke LPG or diesel in the same commercial project is not allowed. ‘The PEX outlet gas pipe is only allowed to use outside the commercial and inthe shift or OTS. ‘The room where the gas meter and the regulator Is kept should have louvered door and should have éluminum or fire resistant wooden door for external ground floor. The room should be according to SEWA-NGD dimensions with a window. For gas meter rooms inside the building, the door should be solid aluminum or solid, fire resietant wooden door with a window for ventilation and should be connected to ‘the OTS. Any ventilation window atthe corridor isnot allowed. 19, 21, 2, 25. 26. 2, ‘The outlet pine dimensions for 75mbar working pressure are as below:- Dome Maximum alowed length of Pipe (MTR) ‘The above mentioned details are based on assumed load and considering different fittings Including elbows and tee which affects the gas pressure, + For other projects, the oad and the network should be checked, “The gos meter should always be fixed atthe boundary wall there are multiple gas meters are fixed inside the plot (sheds, labor camp and shops) For schools, the gas meter should be fixed at the boundary wall with protection For any riser inside the school should be covered and protected with aluminum lou vered cover, For the internal gas installation for schoo! laboratory, Gl pipes can be used till safety valve, copper pipe for above ground and soft copper inside PVC sleeve (Only inside the laboratory room) but without any joint underground. For shopping malls, all gs meters should be fixed a the gas meter room for easy access (in case of emergency) For the basement with natural vent and above the ground level either part of the basement, we can use 2°61 or (2x32" PEX). GI pipe will be installed inthe basement And the gas pressure should not exceed 75mbar. For Labor accommodations, the details ofthe room numbers and kitchen numbers should be mentioned in the drawing, For office buildings, furnished apartments and hotels we need to follow the same regu lations, Permission from NGD Is required if any changes ae to be made. 28, 23, 30. a1, as pipe (PE 80) below ground should not be allowed to passthrough any concrete structure, ‘The €88 pipe (PEBO) below ground inside the plot should be covered between 60cm to 80cm, ‘The minimum size for PEO pipe inside the plot is 32mm, ‘The specification for OTS and gas meter room wil be according to the floor numbers ‘and gas meter numbers and as per below details For OTS size and details as per below: + An OTS of size 1m x 1m for upto 7 floors. + An OTS of size 1.5m x 2m for up to 20 floors. + An OTS of size 3m x 3m for up to 40 floors, + An OTS of size 3.5m x3.5m more than 40 floors, ‘+ The OTS must be accessed through an opening for maintenance. * A steel grating platform with handrall shall be provided at each floor in OTS. +The OTS must be opened to the sky and it should not be provided with any electrical ‘exhaust fans atthe top, For the gas meter room size and details as per below:- + Gas meter room size fr less than 6 meters (G4), is Inxim. + Gas meter room size fr less than 10 meters (G4), is 1.2mvx.Sm. + Gas meter room size for more than 10 meters (G4), is 1.Snvx2.0m, *+ Gas meter room sie for less than S meters (G10 to G40}, is 1.Srmx1.Sm, + Gas meter room se for less than 10 meters (G10 to G40), i 3.0mx3.0m, + Gas meter room size for more than 10 meters (610 to G40), is 5.0mx5.m. + The gas meter room should be adjacent to the OTS, * Ventilation must be provided at OTS side ofthe gos meter. 32. + The room of g3s meter and regulator should have louvered door and aluminum or fire resistant wooden doar at external ground floor. Also, the room should be according to SEWA-NGD cimension approval with window. + Not allowed to provide any alectrcal device or sacket or Light inthe gas meter room. + For each inlet of gas meter, a valve must be installed and downstream secondary regulator n the gas meter room, * Should not pass any other service through the gas meter room and it should only be used for gas meters For commercial project which requires higher flow and @ lot of gas meters if there is no space for risers or gas meter at the groun floor, we can install the primary regulators atthe ground floor.
