HYDRAULIC LIFT

READ THE FOLLOWING TEXT AND HIGLIGHT THE VERBS.

What is a hydraulic lift and what is it for?

Hydraulic lifts are mechanical devices that are used to lift heavy objects, for
example, a car that needs a common repair such as changing one of its wheels,
facilitating access to it so that the entire process is carried out more quickly. Lifts
are used with all types of vehicles, from motorcycles, cars to large automobiles,
and can be used in both professional and domestic environments.

When mentioning this tool, many people wonder who invented the hydraulic lift.
The inventor of this tool was Richard Dudgeon, a 19th century machinist, who,
replacing the screw jack that was the standard lift used at that time, created the
hydraulic lift as we know it today.

When we consider the history of car lifts, Peter Lunati built and patented the first
fully hydraulic car lift in 1925 in Memphis, USA for a service station. The name was
rotary because it rotated 360° to allow vehicles to enter and exit in forward gear
because some vehicles did not yet have reverse gear at that time. It was an
innovative invention and beyond its time. This machine helped mechanics do their
maintenance work much easier.
