Hello

My name is Qimin Zhang from China. Now I'm doing my PHD in the Uni-
versité Côte-d’Azur in nice. This is my first year of PHD and I major in
mathematics. And I’m writing this letter because I want to get a chance to
take a look at Festival de Cannes for three days.

I’m really a big fan of movies. When I feel stressful or frustrated, one of
the solutions is to pick a quiet place, make some tea, and enjoy a good
movie. That really helps. And now, I’m in France, actually in nice, very
closed to cannes. So I think maybe I could know some good movies at
Festival de Cannes, which is really famous in China.

And since this is a motivation letter, maybe I could tell you about how I
became a fan of movies.

It was my fourteen years old. At that time, I was a middle school student,
living boring and stressful life. So I always discuss gossips with my
friends, and as a result, we discussed films, but never took a serious look.

Until one day, my best friend highly recommended me to watch Spirited

Away by Miyazaki Hayao, which really shocked me. A movie could be so
fascinating and touching which had never come to me.

From then on, I started being interested in watching

movies seriously. Animates at first, but later, literary
films, romance films, war films, all other kinds, except
horror movies. For example, The Shawshank Redemp-
tion, La Grande Vadrouille, Titanic, etc. I really like
them.

But I have to say that the number of old classic

movies are finite. For new movies, I really don't want
to waste two hours on some bad movies. I don't want
to take risk. But Festival de Cannes could give me sug-
gestions. I could gather a bunch of interesting movies
in cannes, I think. And that is all I want.
