6 Configure ASTRO System for Integration with WAVE

PTX on Prem

6.1 Introduction
This procedure describes integration of an existing ASTRO Trunking System with WAVE
PTX on Prem system. This will enable PTT functions between the LMR ASTRO system and
the Broadband WAVE system, as well as establish end-to-end connectivity for future add on
services.

6.2 General Requirements

This Procedure was created with the following assumptions and uses existing procedures
found in product documentation located on Motorola’s Learning Management System
Documentation site at: learning.motorolasolutions.com
The following assumptions, requirements, and inputs are utilized for this procedure:
 Existing ASTRO trunking core with ISGW server and ISSI firewall installed.
 ASTRO 7.16 or greater release version installed. If ASTRO 7.16 is installed, ISGW
version should be ‘ISGW-Astro-07.16.00.19-03’.
 Required talkgroups on the ASTRO Provisioning Manager provisioned (Refer
Provisioning Manager User Guide ID: MN004409A01).
 Sys ID, WACN ID, RFSS ID, Group ID and Unit ID range are defined.
 User Access to TNCT and Firewalls are allowed between the WRG and the ISGW
interface.
 DNS server (Domain Controller) is accessible from ISGW.

6.3 ASTRO ISSI Setup

6.3.1 Configure the WAVE PTX on Prem System in the UNCW

The Unified Network Configurator Wizard (UNCW) is an application that provides forms to be
filled out for specific system parameters. Perform the following steps at UNCW.

1. Login UNCW as ‘Admin’ user, using the IP address provided by ASTRO IP plan.

Figure 44: Login UNCW

2. Click on Foreign System under Foreign System Configuration as shown in Figure
45.

Figure 45: Foreign System Configuration

3. Click on Add Row

4. Enter System ID, WACN ID, RFSS ID and Name of the WAVE system. The System
ID and WACN ID must be the same as the home network for ISSI system.
Note: RFSS ID must be in decimal. The configuration is at ASTRO and WAVE is the
foreign (remote) system.

5. Enable ISSI Availability Monitoring Capability to check link status and ISSI
Supplemental Data Capability for emergency calls.
Note: Data is not yet configured on the system. Publish Required: Yes will be
displayed in RED on top left corner. It will be pushed from the EMC Network
Management Console in Section 6.3.2
6. Click on Publish Infrastructure Data to publish data to provisioning manager.
Note: ASTRO supports a maximum of 24 systems.
7. Click on ISGW Application under Foreign System Configuration.
8. Set the Registration Lifetime to the appropriate setting per Figure 46.
Note: Data is not yet configured on the system. Publish Required: Yes will be
displayed in RED on the top left corner. It will be pushed from the EMC Network
Management Console in section 6.3.2.
9. Click on Publish Infrastructure Data to publish data to provisioning manager.

6.3.2 Push Changes on the EMC Network Configuration Manager

1. Login to the EMC Network Configuration Manager using the IP provided in ASTRO
IP Plan.

Figure 47: EMC Network Configuration Manager

2. Click on Tools then Schedule Manager (or hit F3) on the EMC Network
Configuration Manager to verify that the new system has been configured.

3. Select the job name UNCW Policy Enforcement in Pending Status.

4. From the Task tab, select the ISGW device, verify changes made are also present in
the Content tab.
5. Click on the Approve icon.

6.3.3 Verify Configuration of the new System in the Provisioning Manager

1. Login the Provisioning Manager using the IP provided in ASTRO IP Plan.

2. Click on Update Manager from the top of the Provisioning Manager window.
3. Click Distribute Changes.
4. After the Distribute completes click Foreign from the top of the Provisioning
Manager window to verify that the new system created in UNCW is in fact present in
the Foreign System window.

5. Once it is verified, logout of the Provisioning Manager.

6.4 WRG to ISGW Transport and DNS Configuration

6.4.1 Configure TNCT to generate the Configuration Changes for Firewalls

1. Login TNCT using the IP provided in ASTRO IP Plan.

2. Click ISSI/CSSI 8000 Interface tab.
3. Under Local System, enter Telephony-Inter System Firewall info and Local ISGW
Info (from the ASTRO WAVE onPrem Questionnaire).

4. Under External Systems, Click Add External System to add foreign system to be
reached.
5. Under the External System Info, select your Foreign system as the external system
and enter WRG IP (from the ASTRO WAVE onPrem Questionnaire) for the SIP
IP/Mask section in External ISGW/Gateway Info
Figure 52: Add external system at TNCT

6. In Wave System Info, enable this section if you want the WAVE Server to report
traps and information to ASTRO UEM.

7. Click Save icon to save the file.

8. Click Generate Configuration icon. This creates the firewall configuration files,
example:
C:\ProgramFiles(x86)\Motorola\TNCT\A717MZR23.47.05\local_configurati
ons\M3_Utah_2018.05.04-10.52.25\Firewall folder
9. Upload the configuration file onto the Firewall.
Note: Firewall will automatically reboot with the new configuration.

6.4.2 Configure System DNS for WRG IP on the Active Directory - Domain
Controller
1. Login to the Active Directory Domain Controller and launch DNS Manager.
2. Find p25dr in the Forward Lookup Zones folder.
3. Right Click on p25dr and select New Domain. Enter new domain name as the
WACN ID of the WAVE PTX on Prem system.
4. Right Click on the new domain folder and select Add New Host. Enter the RFSS,
Sys ID and WACN ID in the Name field and the WRG IP in the IP address field.
5. Click on Add Host.
Note: The RFSS, Sys ID and WACN ID have to be in HEX format and case sensitive.
Note: If required, padding 0’s. RFSS ID (2 chars), Sys ID (3 chars) and WACN ID (5
characters) as shown in Figure 54.

6.4.3 Verify connectivity between ISGW and WRG

1. SSH into the ISGW terminal window.
2. Enter admin_menu, navigate to: Application Administration > display zc and
foreign system reachability.
3. Verify that the WRG entry is present and the link state is up from ISGW, foreign
system is the WRG.
