Post analysis of the Mahadasha – Mars for the Horary chart it was quite evident that the
Jataka was by default bound to face difficulty – 12 and 9 were connected very strongly.
I immediately informed the Jataka that as such – Your 6 House is only supported by 1

job.
He was told to be very cautious of his job in office so that he does not loose his job and be

The following "Commandments" are given for every sincere and honest student of Krishnamurti
paddhati. All of us are students and as long as we remain as students, we always empower the GURU
to mould us and teach us. The moment we feel that we are masters, and then we have lost that
innocence which binds us to our GURU's feet. By this we not only lose the opportunity to learn and
get better, but we also get shrouded in the ignorance of our bloated egos, which casts a dark veil of
tamo guna, which is at times powerful enough to engulf us for the rest of our lives or careers. Hence
let us pray that the GURU keeps us as "always HIS students and disciples" and we continue to learn
all along. With these humble words, I will take the privilege of passing down the c ommandments to
you, my dear user, patron and guide, for you to adopt and practice and ensure success in every walk
of your astrology career.
1. Before commencing your days' work, make it a mandatory duty to Pray to your GURU (Your
personal or spiritual GURU), to Your Kuladevata (Family Diety) and the Great Lord Ucchishta Maha
Ganapati (who was worshipped by our revered Guruji Shri KSK). Then of fer your salutations to the
great GURU Late Shri. K.S. Krishnamurtiji who, out of his benevolence and love for the astrological
world, toiled hard to find the golden rays of truth and accuracy through his wonderful Krishnamurti
paddhati. Shed your ego and shatter it to bits. Resolve that whatever you judge that day or speak that
day are not your words, but that of your GURU and it is in HIS glory that you are basking. That way,
you stand insured against all the negative karmas which you may inadvertently ac quire as a result of
identifying your ego with the actions you perform.
2. Take a number between 1 and 249 and analyze this chart yourself, for that day's work. How your
work will be, and what efforts may be needed. Before you even cast the horary chart, take the ruling
planets for the moment and note down the following levels:
a) Day Lord
b) Moon Sign Lord
c) Moon Star Lord
d) Lagna Sign Lord
e) Lagna Star Lord
f) Lagna Sub Lord
These 6 levels are extremely important. Among these levels, the last two levels vary, and that too the
Lagna Sub Lord is the fastest changing level.

By a general rule, you may notice that persons approaching you for consultations with their charts will
meet you when the planets in levels 1, 2 and 3 operate - that is on stars of planets in levels 1, 2, 3
and the Moon Sign. Next the lagna transits from morning to evening, changing roughly every 2 hours,
and accordingly, persons who approach you will fit in the levels 4, 5 and 6 (that is when planets
signifying levels 4, 5 and 6 operate).
3. It might happen that, the Moon's Star will be the star of the querist, or it may be a star one before
or after the Moon's Star. The Moon's Star Lord may be the current Dasha/Bhukti or Antara Lord of the
querist.
4. If such a connection exists between your RPs for the moment of judgment and the querist coming
to you, then you may safely go ahead with the rest. However, if such a connection is lacking, beware
of the intent of the querist (he/she may be only testing you or may have come to ridicule astrology!).
Further, when there is no connection, please be very careful in meting out predictions - your chances
of failing are high.
5. When a prediction is given, there should be no "Tendency or Wavering". There is no room for
vagueness in K.P. Astrology. Guruji has time and again reiterated that a sincere and honest
astrologer, who only has the good intentions concerning the consultant in mind, can and will never go
wrong. GOD, NATURE or GURU, as you may call the Higher Force, will always guide you to the truth.
6. When giving predictions, take utmost care, not to upset or mentally torture your querist. It may be
fun for you, but for a person who has come to you with a real problem, every word, every action and
every movement of yours matters. Do not sound Harsh, do not sound vague. Be empathetic to your
clients - that is try to put yourself in their place and feel what it is like to be in such a situation. There
is no use of "sympathizing" with them. Empathy is needed and not sympathy. Even if the results are
bad or fatal, remember that you are dealing with a real human being who is emotionally connected to
his/her family, friends and the world. Try to give the correct results in as much a palatable form as
possible. Remember that even the bitterest medicines are mixed with honey.
7. Always proceed in a logical manner and never forget the "First Principles" elucidated by Shri KSK.
Guruji never said anything in a vague manner. He was always sure and to the point. He never gave
vague rules, but only simple yet powerful dictums. So go from the first principles... you will always
come out correct.
8. Remember that a planet always gives the results of the Bhaava occupied by its star Lord and also
the Bhaava/s owned by the star lord. However, whether the planet does well or bad to these results
(that is gives friendship or enemity, profit or loss as an example) must be judged from the Sub Lord
of the planet. Never ignore the Sub Lord and bypass its' significations in venturing a "SHORT CUT
PREDICTION". There is nothing called a Short Cut in KP Astrology. Our Revered Guruji has trimmed
all the leaves and kept the garden in order before he left his mortal coil. His rules have to followed in
TOTO. There is no point in trying to take some aspects of his rules and trying to discover more. Of
course, research is at the heart of KP and Guruji himself encouraged research. But, please remember
research does not always have to be to negate the basic rules. No one did research to challenge the
existence of gravity discovered by Newton. By everyone found more much beyond the simple rules.
That is welcome.
9. Always judge the planets in an orderly manner. First identify the bhaavas which are to be judged
for the matter concerned. Then look at the Bhaava Sub Lord and his significations. Then look at the
Bhaava Significators and their Sub Lords.

10. Always remember, finding new exotic things is always not innovative or prudent thinking. Many
great discoveries are accidental and unintentional. But there is place for logic and first principles -
based research. Astrology needs such research! Research that is ground up.... not starting in space
and coming down.
With these I conclude this article. I sincerely apologize if in any manner, any content in this article has
hurt your sentiments or beliefs. Such an outcome is purely unintentional. These ten points are
gathered from great articles written by great stalwarts like Shri Shanmugam and others. I have only
added "my two cents" in formatting the text and putting in some grammar (so all the faults are mine!).

The SUB theory of K.P. Astrology (Krishnamurti paddhati or Advanced Stellar Astrology) and
it's rationale
The zodiac of 360 degrees is divided into 12 equal parts known as the rasis or signs. However, apart
from this, there is another finer division - that of the nakshatras or constellations. The entire zodiac is
divided into 27 zones known as the constellations or nakshatras, beginning with Ashwini (Aries 0
degrees) and ending with Revati (ending at Pisces 30 degrees).
All planets moving through the zodiac from the point of Aries (Vernal Equinox), get their results
modified as they move along. When a planet moves in the first nakshatra which is Ashwini, the
transiting planet will be influenced by the lord of Ashwini, namely Ketu. So, all along, every planet
moving in the zodiac is influenced by the lord of the constellation in which it is transiting. Because
each planet governs three constellations in the zodiac, it influences every other planet that moves
through the respective constellations in three zones.
Guruji, Shri K.S. Krishnamurji, explains in the 3rd Reader:

"If a planet were to be in Ashwini, another in Magha and a third in Moola, all are under the influence
of Ketu and are in Ketu's zone. If the astrologer says that a planet is modified by the lord of the
constellation, Ketu, then the statement is not complete and clear. He has to add, whether it is in Aries,
or Leo, or Sagittarius, as otherwise one cannot locate the position of the planet correctly."
These constellations modify the results of the planets transiting in the zodiac. We should understand
here that, the lord of the constellation is responsible for modifying the results of the transiting planets,
and not the stars themselves. The stars are millions of light years away, but the planets are our
immediate neighbors. Hence one planet modifies the results of other planets depending on the
constellations it owns.
Again, to make things clear, a good analogy is given from the 3rd Reader:
Suppose there is a light in the center of a circular room, provided with 12 glass panes of different
colours and around the room is a verandah and outside the verandah, there are 27 glass panes which
belong to 9 different colors (3 panes of each color). Now, if a person walks outside the circular
verandah looking at the light inside, he will find the color of the light getting modified according to the
color of colored glass panes. Similarly, the results of the planets are modified by the lord of the sign
and indicated by the lord of the nakshatra. If a planet is compared to the light, then the influence of
the sign occupied by it and the influence of the constellations change the color of light.
Professor K.S. Krishnamurtiji found in his researches that one should not stop at the level of the
constellations alone. But one has to further subdivide each constellation (of 13 degrees 20 minutes)
into 9 sub divisions. Each of these sub divisions is known as the SUB and is the central dogma of
K.P. Astrology. This minute sub division is necessary if one needs to explain the differences between
twin births. The lagna can move in a sign for about 2 hours, but in a constellation (of 13° 20’) it moves
in about 50 to 58 minutes. But in a SUB, it moves much faster and covers the sub is a few minutes.
Thus, to predict the happening of events accurately and correct to the minute, one has to use the
SUB division of the constellation.
The 27 stars are therefore, sub divided into 9 SUBs each giving a total of 243 SUB divisions. However,
there are 6 SUB divisions where only the Sign changes but the nakshatra and SUB remains the same.
Thus, we get a total of 249 SUB divisions, which are central to Krishnamurti paddhati. Once each
constellation is sub divided, it should be noted that the sub divisions are NOT uniform. They vary and
the rationale for the variance is the time period ruled by the particular planet in the vimshottari dasha
system. Thus, Ketu who governs 7 years in the 120-year vimshottari dasha system rules for 0
degrees, 46 minutes and 40 seconds in any nakshatra. Therefore, each planet rules a sub division in
proportion to the period it rules in the vimshottari dasha system.
This argument seems to make the most sense, because even if we examine the vimshottari dasha
system closely, we actually see that, there are, not only maha dashas, but more minute sub divisions
extending all the way to sookshma dashas. All these are determined by the position of the moon with
respect to the nakshatra it occupies. What the great professor did was extend this logic to all planets,
thus inventing a system complete with logic, reasoning and ancient wisdom.
The Importance of the Constellation and SUB - The SUB LORD Really SPEAKS!
In offering even the least complicated judgment in KP Astrology, the constellation needs
consideration. The sign in which a planet is posited is not very important. The house occupied by a
planet should be judged, taking into account the constellation in which the planet is deposited. The
role of the sign occupied by a planet is not as important as that of the constellation. This factor is a
major deviation from the thinking in traditional Vedic astrology.
Guruji, Shri KSK, has given many examples in which, if a planet is in the 12th bhaava, by traditional
methods, it is said that it should cause separation, loss, issue of cheque etc. But when actually
observed, there is reunion, gain, receipt of money etc. Guruji, in the 3rd Reader gives an example of
a man, who was a close friend of his for many years. The gentleman in fact had gains, fortune and
success during the periods of Saturn, Mars and Sun, which according to the traditional system ought
to have been bad as being placed in the 12th bhaava. However, the gentleman had untoward results
during the periods of Venus posited in 11 and Ketu in 10! According to the traditional system, Saturn
and Sun ought to have been worse, but they were beneficial. Venus and Mercury causing Dharma-
Karmaadhipati yoga in the chart should have given brilliant results, but they proved bad! Guruji,
exclaims that studying such charts for many years alone opened his eyes. He observed that a planet
A offers the results of the house occupied by that planet B which is the lord of the star wherein planet
A is situated.
Again, trouble arose when 2, 3 or 4 planets were found in the same constellation. Guruji, Shri KSK,
observed that, even those planets in the same constellation gave sometimes diametrically opposite
results. This made him go further and divide each constellation into 9 SUBs as explained in an earlier
article in this reference. Guruji, proved through untiring research that planets occupying any one
constellation have connection with the bhaava occupied by the lord of the constellation. These planets
in that constellation were termed as the "Significators" of the bhaava occupied by the constellation
lord. Then he further said that, even when a planet signifies a bhaava, whether it offers good results
or bad ones, depends on which SUB division it is placed within that constellation. So, whether the
significator votes for the success or failure of the matter at hand, depends on the ultimate judge - the
SUB lord in whose sub division the significator is deposited.
In order to judge whether the significator can do good or bad, one should therefore, very logically
judge, what the SUB lord himself signifies. Because fundamentally, every planet gives the results of

the houses he signifies (that is the house occupied and houses owned by the lord of the star in which
the planet is placed), it is quite but natural to consider that a planet having signification of good houses
or favorable bhaavas can only do well. Therefore, if the SUB lord is a significator of good bhaavas
(here good means bhaavas favorable to the results at hand), then the matter comes through, else it
falls apart. This great discovery "crowned" Shri KSK with success and he became the unquestioned
Monarch, the real Jyotish Marthand, who shed his luminous compassion on the scene of Indian
Astrology which was until then shrouded in the medieval throes.
Therefore, Guruji said that if a planet is the significator of the lagna bhaava (is located in the
constellation of a planet occupying the lagna), it gives long life, success in attempts, helps maintain a
good and sound health, PROVIDED, the sub lord in whose sub division this planet is deposited, is not
the significator of 6, 8 or 12. If the sub lord signifies 6 (is located in the constellation of a planet
occupying the sixth bhaava), he falls ill, if signifying 8, he meets with danger and if signifying 12 one
runs away or is imprisoned or hospitalized.
Thus, every planet’s results ultimately depend on the SUB LORD - that is the lord of the sub division
of the constellation in which the significator planet is located. This is the true essence of Krishnamurti
paddhati and the SUB LORD really SPEAKS! One should only have the mind to listen with attention
and have the clarity of thought to understand what the SUB LORD has spoken.
Significators in Krishnamurti paddhati - How to select them?

Significators and Sub Lords are the two most concepts in Krishnamurti paddhati, so much so, that
without Significators and Sub Lords there is no K.P. Astrology. Be it the simplest prediction or the
most complex one, the affairs or matters signified by any bhaava are judged by the significators of
that bhaava. So, what are these significators and how do we select them? This is the central theme
of this article.
Principally for any bhaava, there are 4 principal significators which are computed as follows: -
• Planets occupying the stars of the occupants

Of a bhaava are the most important and strongest significators of a bhaava. This is because every
planet gives the results of the house occupied by its star lord. Hence occupants of a constellation
are more powerful than the owner.
• The occupants of the Bhaava

These planets come next in the order of significators. If any planet occupying a bhaava has no
planets deposited in its stars, then the occupant itself becomes a strong significator of that bhaava.
Also, if any planet occupies its own star, then it is its own star lord and hence becomes powerful to
offer the results of the bhaava it occupies.
• The Planets occupying the stars of the bhaava owner

These come next. If a bhaava has no occupants, i.e., the bhaava is empty, then the planets
occupying the stars of the bhaava lord become powerful significators of that bhaava.
• The Bhaava lord

Is the least powerful significator of a bhaava. However, it should be noted that, if a bhaava is empty
and there are no planets in the stars of the bhaava lord, or, if such a bhaava lord happens to be in
his own star, then the bhaava lord becomes a powerful significator of the bhaava in question.
The four levels of significators listed above are the "Classical Significators" in K.P. Astrology. Apart
from these, Guruji has also advised us to consider some other planets also as the significators of the
bhaava; these however, are less powerful (lesser than the bhaava lord also). These are -
a) Planets conjoining any of the significators found by the rules given above
b) Planets aspecting or aspected by any of the significators found above
c) Planets aspecting the bhaava in question
Thus, we can find 5 levels of significators for any given bhaava. Jyotishya Deepika makes it easy for
you by giving all these significators in a clear and comprehensible manner. These are also called as
Type A (Planets in star/s of occupants), Type B (Occupants), Type C (Planets in the star/s of owner),
Type D (Owner) and Type E (Planets in conjunction or aspect with either A, B, C or D) significators.
SUB Significators
In the earlier articles, we have learnt that a Planet A ruling the sub division of the constellation which
Planet B occupies is known as the Sub Lord of Planet B. Now Planet B is a significator of the house
occupied by its star lord (say Planet C). For an example, we will say that Planet C occupies the 10th
cusp. So, we say that Planet B is in the star of Planet C and hence B is a significator of the 10 th
Bhaava in the native's chart. Now, Planet B is in the SUB of Planet A. This Planet A becomes the
supreme deciding factor to state whether Planet B does good with respect to the effects of the 10 th
house or does bad to the native with respect to the effects of the 10 th house. The question is how do
we conclude what will happen?
This is where, Guruji has enlightened us and many great luminary authors like Late Shri K.M.
Subramaniam have time and again reiterated the following:
"Before deciding on whether the effects of Planet B will be beneficial to the native or not, look into the
"significations" of the SUB lord - Planet A. That is check what bhaavas are signified by Planet A.
Suppose Planet A signifies the 11th bhaava; it empowers Planet B to give great results with respect
to the matters signified by the 10th house. However, if the Planet A signifies the 9th bhaava (which is
12th to the 10th ), or the 8th or 12 bhaavas, then Planet B is rendered powerless and does only harm
to the native in terms of the matters indicated by the 10th house."
Thus, the significations of the Sub Lord are of paramount importance and NO PREDICTION SHOULD
BE OFFERED WITHOUT TAKING THIS INTO PROPER CONSIDERATION. If the Sub lord of the
significator is harmonious to the matters indicated by the star lord, then the significator showers great
results. However, if the Sub lord is detrimental to the same matters, then the significator only harms
the native with respect to concerned matters.
Thus, in conclusion, the Star Lord shows what results are to be expected from a significator. But it is
the Sub Lord who is the final judge, passing the decree as to whether the results are favorable or
unfavorable.
Cuspal Sub Lords Reign Supreme

The cuspal sub lord of a bhaava reigns supreme in deciding whether the matters signified by the
bhaava are promised or denied. Late Shri. K.M. Subramanian has reiterated the following words in
his golden classic series "Sub Lord Speaks". He says:

"I like to tell readers and KP followers, that planetary Sub Lord tells the nature of fructification of the
matter, but the cusps of the houses that tell such matters, tell the quantum of such matters through
the significations of the cuspal sub lord. This is the difference, for example, a planet signifies the II
through its sub and that tells it can give money. How much? The Sub Lord of the II cusp tells this. The
quantum is assessed through the strength of its significations. This is how we have to proceed."
Therefore, it is the cuspal sub lord of a bhaava that indicates whether the matters signified by the
particular bhaava are promised or denied. If the cuspal sub lord of that house is the significator of the
same house, or any one of the houses under consideration, then the matter signified by that house
will be promised.
As each house denotes several particular matters, the chief governor of the matter concerned
(example, Venus for marriage, Jupiter for progeny), must be taken into consideration. If the chief
governor of the matter is connected with the house, or any one of the houses under consideration,
especially with the star lord of the cuspal sub lord, it is highly desirable.
As a concluding remark, let us understand an example as cited by our revered Guruji in the
3rd Reader:
"If the sub lord of 2 is the significator of 2 and 9, one makes money by export and import, by publication
of books, by long journeys, by entering into contracts with foreigners, or by innovations and patents.
One gains through religion, temples or other places of worship, science, relatives of partner etc.
If the sub lord of the 2nd cusp is the significator of the 2 nd and 10th houses, one makes steady
progress, is always prosperous, gets government service, and have honors awards and increase in
reputation and generally success in all undertakings."
These lines clearly indicate the dictum of KP Astrology, which we should always remember - "THE
CUSPAL SUB LORD IS AN EXTREMELY IMPORTANT DETERMINANT” in deciding the quantum of
matters concerning any bhaava. The significations of this cuspal sub lord should be ascertained
thoroughly (check where the cuspal Sub Lord is placed, in whose constellation it is placed and the
house occupied and house/s owned by the lord of that constellation. Also don't forget to check the
SUB in which the cuspal sub lord itself is placed).
