Questions to Be Answered in Teams

1.- Find the Brechtian devices that can be seen in the text and explain how they
would work in performance.

2.- Why do you think they are used and would the play have been different without
them?

3.- Do you find the play humorous? What aspects of the characters’ dialogues or
the stage notes would make the play a comedy?

4.- Elaborate on the ending, how would you describe it? What feelings does it
elicit in you as a reader? How do you think these feelings would differ if you had
seen the performance?

5.- Taking into consideration the above questions, to which genre or genres would
you say the play belongs?

6.- Similarities and deviations from the “Angry Young Men” or the “Kitchen-Sink
Drama”.

7.- What were the most controversial issues at the time it was staged? Do you
think they are still relevant today? Do you think they are outdated? Why?

8.- Do you relate to any of the characters? How?
