PROPOSAL

Short Summary

The music video will centre around a boy who has recently been in an argument with his
partner, who feels he is not emotionally available. Not knowing what to say or how to be
honest about his feelings, he had walked out on her. Upon leaving, he puts on a plain mask,
to physically hide his emotional state. Throughout the song, he attempts to express his
feelings through playing his guitar and writing lyrics in his notebook. He reflects on the
relationship before realising he needs to go back to his partner and be open with her about
his feelings. Upon arriving at her doorstep, he removes his mask, and the emotions flood
out of him.

Unique Selling Point

Our USP is that our music video will explore the topic of men’s inability to express their
emotions due to society’s expectations of them to appear “strong”. This is an important
conversation topic which has only begun to be explored in the mainstream in recent times.

Purpose

The purpose of the music video is to evoke emotion in the audience. We want audiences to
invest in the characters’ relationship and feel relieved by the ending. We also want
audiences to be able to relate to the characters. We hope to achieve this effect by casting
actors with good chemistry, who can also portray realistic emotional responses.

Viewpoint
The story is told from a 3rd person perspective, following the characters without any
personal connection to them.

Contributors

Joe Capille will be our male lead and Holly Taylor will be our female lead.

Drew Taylor will direct, Camera Snook and Matthew Bailey will operate cameras, and Emily
Forey will record sound.

Target audience

Our target audience will obviously be fans of The Cure as our music video features one of
their songs. We will also target teens and young adults with an interest in emotional
romance storylines as they will find the story compelling. Finally, we will target young
boys/men as their mental health is the focus of our music video and they may find it
relatable.

Equipment needed

We will require 2 Sony X70 camera to capture both sides of the argument at once, a Zoom
H4N, Rode NTG2 and Boom Pole to record audio for the intro argument scene, a Koolertron
Shoulder Rig and Dolly Track to capture smoother dynamic shots, and a Manfrotto
MVT502AM Tripod for stable static/pan/tilt shots.

Platform

Our music video will be released on YouTube as it is the most common platform for music
videos and will reach more people interested in them.
