Why was the symbol of

Halloween become
NEW
illuminated pumpkins? PROJECT
ON THE
WEBSITE!
In the future, a lantern will be carved out of a
pumpkin and will be lit up from the inside,
making it a ubiquitous symbol during Halloween.
But why will it be so closely linked to this holiday?

Let's take a trip back in history to the ancient

Celtic festival of Samhain, which will signify the
end of summer. It will be believed that during this
period, the boundary between the world of the
living and the afterlife will be breached, thus
enabling spirits to roam the Earth.

As time goes by, pagan customs will be

supplanted by Christianity, and the festival will
evolve into All Hallows' Eve. The Irish tradition of
carving turnips will emerge from the legend of
Jack o' Lantern.

The story will go that Jack will strike a deal with the devil and will
subsequently spend eternity wandering with only a carved turnip
illuminated by a lump of coal to light his way. These "Jack-o-
lanterns" will be carried by villagers on Halloween night to keep
evil spirits at bay.
When Irish immigrants arrive in the United States, they will find
that carving a pumpkin is much easier than using other fruits
they had used before, thus making the pumpkin the new emblem
of Halloween in the country.
Nowadays, pumpkin carving has developed into an intricate and
competitive art form on Halloween.

Art

After three and a half years of searching to recover it, a Van Gogh painting stolen from a
Dutch museum in March 2020 has now been safely returned.
It was reported by Dutch art detective Arthur Brand that a man appeared at his doorstep
and handed over the 139-year-old painting on a pillow and an Ikea bag.
"It was done in total coordination with the Dutch police, and it was known that this guy wasn't
involved in the theft," he said.
In 2021, a career criminal was sentenced to eight years in prison for this incident.
