One of the sections in the glycerol production facility is shown in Figure 1 where there are various fittings installed. The fluid (viscosity, 1=0.012 Pa's and density, p = 1179 kg/m’) is transported from the lower tank to the higher tank at a rate of 70 x 10° m/s by using a centrifugal pump. The pipeline in the system is made of composite with a diameter of 125 mm and relative roughness of 0.004 which makes up the length of pump suction line and delivery line of 8 m and 23 m respectively. Various fittings are installed along the line which are listed in Table 2. Given that the pressure in the lower and higher tank are 160 kPa and 210 kPa respectively, construct the simplest equation that represents the system curve as a function of volumetric flowrate (Q) by considering that the friction factor, f, does not change with velocity. Pa:s respectively. A six-blade disk turbine of 0.65 m in diameter is centrally mounted in the baffied agitated vessel. The mixing process took place under a fully turbulent condition with a Reynolds number of 110,000. Determine the suitable turbine impeller speed (revolution per second) and the power required to run this impeller. Table 1 provides the values of constants KL and KT for baffied tanks. The force resistance to motion, R depends upon the diameter (D) the velocity (v), the density (p) and the dynamic viscosity (y). Identify the dimension for all variables that are present in the system described above. Subsequently, state the number of primary dimensions available in the system and the number of tr-term that should be developed in the dimensional analysis, (8 marks) END OF QUESTION PAPER © Hak Cipta Universiti Teknolog!
