To solve the structural models that are statically indeterminate it's very important to formulate the model and to use standard equations of statics alone to solve the mode! Basic assumptions a) linear relationship exists between applied load and the resulting displacement of structure principle of superposition is valid b) material obeys Hooks law - within the elastic limit ©) equation of static equilibrium is developed using the geometry of the undeflected model(change in geometry caused by the imposed load is negligible) The fundamental difference between stifiness and flexibility approaches is the unknowns in the first case its displacements and in later actions respectively. 4, Static indeterminacy - is the no unknown reactions which can be bending moment, shear force, and axial force It specifies the no of independent equations that must be written in terms of released actions if the system is analyzed using a flexibility approach 5. Kinematic indeterminacy is the no of unrestrained components of the joint displacements which can be both translational and rotational It specifies the no of independent equations that must be written in terms of unrestrained displacements if the system is analyzed using the Stiffnes approach 6. Static and kinematic indeterminacy are the indicators. 7 Flexibility approach deals with static indeterminacy unknowns are forces(axial, moments, shear) formula converts the system into static determinate structure The stiffness approach deals with kinematic indeterminacy unknowns are joint displacements(transiational, rotational) formula converts the system into a kinematic. determinate structure 8. choice of the method should not be geometry specific; it should be more generic, further, it should be repetitive in nature. 9. Matrix partitioning -partitioned matrix is a division of a matrix into smaller rectangular matrices called submatrices or blocks and horizontal or vertical partitioning is if a matrix is subdivided into two vertically then it's said tobe vertically partitioned and similarly horizontally partitioned matrix, ‘A matrix that has both horizontal and vertical partitioning is called cross partitioned matrix. 10, Nodes should be identified Local axis should be defined No of independent displacements should be defined, etc.
