Children having anxiety when separated from the parents are common. But when the anxiety hampers
their everyday life and the children starts to miss out all fun of his/her age, then it could be a sign of
Separation Anxiety Disorder. This case study explored the effectiveness of storytelling based on
Cognitive Behavior Therapy as an intervention tool of separation anxiety disorder of 9 years old boy .A
story for dealing with SAD was used as an intervention tool to extract child’s thoughts, identify his
distortions, and help him to make accurate sense of the world. The story narrates an animal character
who becomes highly anxious when away from the mother .The child was able to identify himself with
the character and learned to cope with the situation as narrated in the story. Upon completion of 8
weeks session, it was found that this case revealed that the child could sleep alone in his own bed
room(6 days in a week), started going to class without his mother, which the child was not able to do
before the intervention. So it can be said that CBT based story telling can be used effectively in treating
children.
