McIntyre Wildlife Sanctuary - Harry the Horse 🐎

• Each feed, Harry gets 2x large metal scoops of cha , 2x large metal scoops of
grain and 1x large handful of Lucerne - mix the cha and grain together well in
a large bucket.
• At the same time you should ll a second bucket of cha and grain mix which
can be used to top up the food in the big/mid yards later, along with a separate
bucket of Lucerne to add to each feed bowl.
• Take the bucket to Harry’s shelter, make sure his metal food bowl is inside the
shelter and add the feed you’ve made up into hos bowl adding the large handful
of Lucerne on top and break it up so it is in a loose pile
• Make sure his water bowl is clean and at least 3/4 full. Scoop out any food/
debris which may be oating in the water. If the water is murky or there is green
in the water the bowl requires scrubbing and the water replacing!
• Feel free to use Harry’s brush to give him a well appreciated brush and the
occasional carrot out the fridge 🥕

McIntyre Wildlife Sanctuary - Puss the Cat 🐈

• Feed Puss twice a day - small amounts of dry food and wet food (once after
dark to make sure the raven can’t steal her food!) - Wash the bowl beforehand
• When cat food is running low, tell Dee!
• Give her some love and fuss whilst you’re out there

McIntyre Wildlife Sanctuary - Birds 🦅
• Making the pre-made mince meat - combine an entire bag of mince meat and a
few scoopfuls of insectivore mix and a scoop of calcium until the mix goes hard
and brown throughout which helps with the meats preservation, put the mix into
shallow tupperware boxes found in the joey room/joey kitchen and store in the
animal fridge.
• Magpies - the caged magpies require feeding 6+ times a day using the pre-
made mince meat mix - these are juvenile birds who get fed 8 small sized balls
each during each feed.
• Raven - similar to the magpies the raven gets fed 6 times a day using the pre-
made mince meat mix - he may not take from your hand so watch and make
sure he eats a minimum of 4x large balls and leave another 4x balls on the
branches inside his cage.
• ‘Magpieeees!’ This is a call we shout out 3 times a day to feed all the released/
local birds in the area (it’s not just for the magpies alone). Use this call in the joey
yard and mid yard separately as di erent birds dominate di erent areas and
won’t feed in all places. Use the pre-made mince meat mix to feed all the birds
e.g. magpies, ravens, cha s, frogmouth’s and smaller birds who come to you :)
• Galahs - Make sure the Galahs water and seed bowl is topped up daily, go into
the cage and see if all the seeds have been opened and eaten, remove the
shells which have been eaten and bring the seeds which the birds may not have
reached to the top using your hand to mix.
• Cockatoos - there are 3 cockatoos found outside that were previously pets
meaning they cannot be released, these guys are naughty so i wouldn’t
recommend putting your nger near the cage! Their food and water is topped up
daily, a two person job, have one person distracting the birds whilst the other
re lls their water and seed (use same method as the Galahs above regarding
their seed)
• There are 2 large bird cages out back lled with a mix of di erent bird species
from cockatoos, parrots to sparrows, both cages require food and water top ups
daily, use the same method as above to remove the old seed and top it up with
fresh seed, also take a watering can to top up their waters. Watch out for the
right hand cage as the birds are a bit naughty, take a second person with you
with a broom to ward o any unwanted swoops!

McIntyre Wildlife Sanctuary - Lamby the Lamb 🐑

• The lamb is fed 4 times a day along with the roos, his bottle is made up of 400ml
(4x the full roo sized bottles) of lamb milk known as mix 2. Pour all 4 small
bottles into the large lamb bottle (empty coca-cola bottle) and use the red and
yellow teat.
