including working parents who are juggling family and work
priorities, and anyone looking for some much needed work life
balance away from the stress of the 9-5.

making money on the side in addition to your day job or even with a
view to eventually replacing your day job! The great thing about
earning money like this is that the earning potential can be limitless,
depending on the earning methods you choose. You can effectively
pay yourself a bonus by working more for example.
In Chapter 1, I explain more about me and how I’ve carved out my
own ways of working from home which has brought a lot of freedom
and enjoyment to my life. Then, you’ll find 101 inspirational ideas for
how you can get started earning money from home in Chapter 2. At
the end of this book, there’s a great big list of resources for further
reading and some final words about some of the benefits and
considerations of working from home.
Thanks again for downloading this book; I hope you enjoy it and that
it will inspire you to start earning money from home today!
Chapter 1 – My Story
Up until a few years ago, I used to hold a well-paid, highly stressful
corporate job in marketing. Instead of the usual 9-5, I worked 8-8
most weekdays and occasionally weekends in order to meet
deadlines and deliver projects to a high standard. I generally did
everything I could to work my socks off to make sure I kept this
highly paid, highly stressful job.
Working all those hours meant that I didn’t have much of a social
life. With my good salary and lack of social life, was I rich? Sadly, no!
In fact, I had a ton of debt to contend with, which gave me even more
reason to stick with my job that I didn’t really like all that much. I
remember feeling like I was stuck in the rat race, destined to have an
overflowing in tray for the rest of my working life. I honestly felt
miserable and it was around that point that I was diagnosed with
depression. Then, I was lucky enough to become a parent when my
little girl came into the world, brightening up my life and forcing me
to rethink my priorities about what I wanted to do for a living. I
wanted to raise my daughter and be there for her, so I decided to quit
that corporate job and make it on my own, working from home. I’m
not rich yet, but I have so much more freedom to do what I want –
and guess what? My finances are getting better every day; in fact my
husband and I have almost paid off our debts and are well on the way
to building ourselves a financially secure future.
So what do I do? Well, I undertake a few different types of work to
carve out a good living for myself. When my daughter is at nursery (3
days per week), I work on freelance writing projects and manage
social media campaigns for a number of clients. I also work on my
blog, Disease Called Debt, which brings in money through
advertising. I have a second blog based around craft tutorials that I
work on less frequently. I have started an eBook publishing business
as a way to earn passive income – that’s income where you do the
work once and continue to get paid for it over and over again. When
my daughter is at home with me (2 days per week), I run a
childminding (home daycare) business and I take the maximum
number of children that I’m allowed on those days so that I can make
some good money during that time. Being a qualified and registered
childminder means I can earn money whilst keeping my daughter
with me. I work full time, but from home and around my family,
which means that I actually save a lot of money. I don’t pay any
childcare costs whatsoever, or pay much for fuel or work clothes. I
use more electric and gas, but it’s a nominal amount. I don’t have to
deal with daily commutes and if I want to do more work, I do – if I
don’t, then I don’t!
When people ask me what I do, I usually struggle to explain it, but I
don’t mind that. The truth is that I do many things; I no longer feel
the need to label myself as doing one particular job. Now that I’ve
explained more about me, I want you to know that it’s possible to
earn money from home, by doing what you want to do. Some work
from home opportunities don’t pay all that well, but of course, some
do. Some income streams don’t happen overnight, in fact some can
take months before you’ll earn a penny! But at the same time, there
are ways detailed in this book to make cash really quickly, if you need
to. In the next chapter, you’ll see that I’ve outlined 101 great ways to
earn money from home, which you can try yourself - whether you
just want to top up your income - or transform your working life so
that you have the flexibility to work when you want and take on the
jobs that you want to do.
Chapter 2 – 101 Ways to Earn Money
from Home

1. Blogging
I mentioned in Chapter 1 about a couple of blogs that I work on,
which earn a little money through advertising each month. In fact,
it’s possible to make a full time living from a successful blog! The
great thing about blogging is that it costs next to nothing to start one
up. You can use WordPress as your blogging platform which is really
easy to use and it has many good free theme designs for those
starting out. You can also use Blogger or Tumbler, but WordPress is
brilliant because of the many plugins which are available.
Deciding what topic to blog about is a big consideration. That’s
because it can take a long time to earn money from a blog – you need
to really have a good number of visitors every month in order to
attract advertisers. Therefore, the topic needs to be something you’re
passionate about so you can continue writing about it month in and
month out. You also need to promote your blog consistently to get
referral traffic and learn about Search Engine Optimization (SEO) –
getting the search engines to recognize and show your blog in search
results.
If you think blogging might be for you, it’s better to self-host your
blog and get your own domain name right from the very beginning –
it will save time and hassle later. Here’s a really helpful and easy
tutorial on how to start a self-hosted WordPress blog and make
money from it. Other ways that you can monetize your blog are
affiliate advertising – selling relevant products online where you can
earn a commission, or creating a membership site where your
subscribers pay a fee to join.
2. Freelance Writing
If you enjoy writing and are good at it, you can build up a nice side
business from freelancing, which has the potential to become a full
time profession. You can work in the evenings when the kids are in
bed, weekends, first thing in the morning – you can even write a
stack of articles in advance and take the rest of the month off if you
choose to! Freelance writing offers a lot of flexibility. The hardest
thing to do is get clients especially if you’re competing with writers
from overseas as they are often able to charge a much lower fee than
you can. However! Fear not, because many clients are looking for
high quality writers that they can develop long working relationships
with.
To get started, you may have to work for a low fee to get some
feedback and experience but once you’ve got a few jobs under your
belt, you should be able to charge more. You can find clients by
offering your services on oDesk, Elance, on your own website if you
have one, or even by emailing companies relevant to your writing
field to ask if they have any writing opportunities.
3. Website Design
If you have skills and knowledge in designing and developing
websites, then you can offer your services to anyone who needs a
website creating, this could be to local businesses or clients that you
can find on oDesk, Elance, Freelancer or Guru for example. If you
don’t yet have the skills needed for website design, you can get
started learning about CSS and HTML for free at W3Schools.
4. Customer Service
If you are a good communicator, then there are plenty of
opportunities for you to work from home either part time or full time
as a customer service representative. All you need is a decent
internet connection, a high quality earphone with built-in
microphone, and you are good to go! Some of the companies that are
currently looking for this service are Apple, GE, Amazon, Hilton
Hotels, Convergys and Tesco. If you do an internet search for
“customer service jobs from home”, you’ll see plenty of recruiters
looking for suitable applicants.
5. Life Coach
If you’re a people person, you might consider making money from
home as a Life Coach. A Life Coach is someone who supports and
inspires other people to improve certain areas of their lives such as
personal development, health and fitness and relationships. In the
UK, this profession currently isn’t regulated as it is in other
countries, however the chances of getting work are greater if you are
certified and belong to a membership association. There are a
number of courses available, see the resources section for more
information.
This line of homeworking is very attractive to those approaching
retirement age as it enables some people to make the switch from full
time employment to part time self-employment. It’s a very flexible
and interesting profession and thanks to Skype, you can do coaching
face to face (online) from your desk!
6. Build Niche Websites
A niche website is similar to a blog; except that it focuses on a
specific niche e.g. yoga equipment. They can contain between 20 to
100 pages of content - sometimes more! Content for a niche website
is built around recommending different affiliate products that can be
promoted in return for a commission upon a sale e.g. through
Amazon Affiliates or Clickbank. That’s one way a niche website can
make money. Other ways include direct advertising or through
Google Adsense.
When building a niche website, the most important task is finding a
profitable niche to set up a money making website about. The niche
needs to be something that you’re passionate about (so you can write
a lot of content), something that has good products associated with it
and something that is in demand e.g. people want to know about it
but have few options currently. Niche websites are a great way to
make passive income. Here’s a great step by step tutorial and more
resources can be found at the end of this book.
7. Social Media Promotion Services
Having a social media presence is really important for many
businesses and many are willing to outsource this task because of the
amount of time it takes to start up and maintain Twitter, Facebook,
Google Plus and Pinterest profiles for example. This is where you can
step with in with social media promotion services by offering to take
control of this activity in return for a fee. You’d be responsible for
sending out regular tweets, status updates, sharing relevant news
and opinions and promoting a business’s services on their social
media accounts and on your own too. To get started, check out your
local small businesses that perhaps already have a website but as yet
haven’t jumped on the social media bandwagon.
8. Become a Private Tutor
If you can teach a particular subject, private tutoring is a great job
you can do from home either through Skype or by running lessons
where the student comes to your home. If you live in the US or
Canada and can tutor for at least 5 hours per week, you can join
websites such as Tutor, where the majority of work is done online
and via phone. You do need to be qualified to degree level to become
a tutor. If you’re already a teacher, this is a great way to supplement
your income from home!
9. Train People in Computer Skills
You’ll be amazed at how many people don’t have basic computer
skills even though computers are everywhere these days. In
particular, elderly people haven’t had as much opportunity as they’d
like to learn computer basics such as Microsoft Office and even how
to search the internet. You can make life easier for them and for you
too by offering to teach local students in computer skills. You don’t
have to have any qualifications, just advertise your services in local
shops, supermarkets, post offices and even via a flyer drop to start
getting customers. You can charge an hourly rate either in your own
home or possibly in theirs if they don’t live too far away.
10. Consultancy Services
If you’re an expert in a particular field, you could make money from
home by offering consultancy services. Types of consultancy work
could include being an SEO or Digital Marketing Consultant or a
Business Development Consultant for example. You could consult on
how to get traffic for websites, or how to build a niche website even.
If you have skills that other people can learn from, you could consult
and charge a very good rate for your services. You can advertise
yourself through Craigslist, Gumtree, on your website if you have one
or through your local newspaper. You can also make your own
Facebook page and ask your friends to share it.
11. Network Marketing and Direct Sales Businesses
There are many businesses that offer network marketing
opportunities through direct selling, referral selling and pyramid
selling. An example of a network marketing business is the Utility
Warehouse in the UK, where you can sign up to be a distributor for
referring people to Utility Warehouse for their gas, electric,
broadband and phone services.
As well as earning a commission from getting people to sign up and
use the service or product, you can also build your team by bringing
in people like you who also want to make money in this way. Then
you can earn a commission from their referrals too. Building a team
and being very active is the way to make a networking marketing
business work. Network marketing businesses usually have a small
fee to join but you can earn this back pretty quickly once you start
referring and earning commissions. Other examples of network
marketing businesses include Arbonne, Kleeneze, Herbalife, or
Scentsy.
12. Restoring and Repainting Furniture
If you’re crafty or artistic, you can create the shabby chic style
furniture that so many people like to buy these days. It’s possible to
turn this type of work from a hobby into a fully-fledged business! Buy
old furniture at flea markets, yard sales, car boot sales or auctions
and carefully restore to create a vintage looking masterpiece. Always
use high quality paints for a professional finish and make sure you
price your furniture at the right price so that you can make a tidy
profit from it. You can take furniture restoration courses locally if
you want to develop new skills.
13. Logo or Graphic Design
If you are skilled in Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop, you might be
able to create logos, blog headers or other graphic design elements
for clients. You could start by selling your services for $5 on Fiverr
for basic designs and then once you’ve built up some experience, you
can start charging much more. Freelance logo designers can charge
from $250 to $2500 for a really excellent logo, so if you have a flair
for design, this avenue is well worth exploring.
14. eBay
There are a number of ways to make money from home using eBay.
The most common way is to sell your old, unwanted items. Explore
your attic, basement and closet and look for stuff that you want to get
rid of but you think can still be used by others and sell it on eBay.
Examples include sports gear, old clothes and shoes, jewelry,
furniture and appliances.
When you’ve exhausted your stock of unwanted items, you could try
your hand at buying and selling (flipping) products using eBay. For
example, you could look out for products (either locally or on other
online sites) that are being sold in a sale or on special offer and resell
them on eBay for the usual retail price when the offer has ended.
Sites you can use to check out deals on many different products are
Slickdeals, Dealdump, Tech Bargains and Hot UK Deals.
You could also open an eBay shop as a business. This can be very
lucrative, if you can find the right products for the right price and sell
them for an even better price! You’d have to check out what the
competition is on eBay when you do identify the niche that you want
to sell in and learn about importing, exporting and eBay shop fees.
To set up an eBay shop, you’d need to have a certain amount of
capital to use for stock in the beginning. Other than that, as long as
you have a computer, you’d have very little overheads to worry about.
15. Property Investor
Property investing of course isn’t for everyone, since it requires a
significant amount of money to buy the first investment property (or
at least a good proportion of it). However, if you have got access to
this kind of money, this is a great way to run a business from home
that is also usually very profitable. Property usually increases in
value over time and many people look to property as part of their
retirement portfolio for this reason.
You’d need to take into consideration your target audience for
rentals to make sure that whatever property you buy will be suitable
for renters in the area. For example, if you’re looking to attract the
student rental market, you might consider buying next to a College
or University. Alternatively, you could invest in a house that needs a
lot of building work doing to it (therefore cheaper than average) so
that you can resell for a ‘top end’ price.
16. Freelance Interior Designer
If you are creative and can transform a dull room into a masterpiece
of excitement or a peaceful and tranquil retreat, then starting an
interior design business from home could be an option for you. In
order to succeed, you’d need to have interior design skills along with
experience of visual design software such as CAD. That usually
means that you’ll need an arts or design related degree or other high
level qualification. You’d also need to be computer literate and
mathematically literate too for working out sizes for interior
creations.
It’s a competitive field, but if you can demonstrate evidence of your
creativity and style, there’s no reason why you shouldn’t get work.
You could offer to transform your friend’s rooms for free and use
those for your portfolio to get started. Advertise your services locally
and aim to get word of mouth recommendations. Freelance Interior
Designers usually charge an hourly rate.
17. Childminder / Home Daycare Provider Business
If you love kids, running a childminder or home daycare business is a
great way to earn money whilst being there for your own children
too. You can work your own hours and the more children you have,
the more you’ll make. In the UK, you must be registered by Ofsted
and undertake a compulsory childcare training course along with
Criminal Record Bureau (CRB) checks.
In the UK, you’ll be inspected by Ofsted every three years to make
sure you’re delivering high standards of care. Childminders are
required to deliver the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS)
framework which is in place to help develop and support children
aged 0-5 years. In other countries, you must apply for a license to set
up as a childcare provider or home daycare setting and courses are
greatly encouraged.
18. Ironing Service
Many people hate ironing or are too busy to do it, but if you don’t
mind ironing, you could set up a nice little ironing business from
home. You could charge by weight or per item and do a set number
of hours per week. You could iron whilst watching TV or listening to
music to make it an enjoyable (therapeutic even) task! The great
thing about this business is that you’re likely to get regular clients
who keep returning to you for their ironing work.
19. eBook Publishing
If you like writing, you could create your own eBook that you can sell
on Amazon using the Kindle Direct Publishing platform. You could
write that story that you’ve always wanted to tell, or a non-fiction
self-help book for example. If you have something to share that other
people might be interested in, then an eBook is a great way to create
your own product that could lead to regular passive income for many
years to come.
Writing and publishing an eBook on Amazon is extremely cheap to
do. You could write it yourself so the only major cost to you is your
time. You can get a cover done on Fiverr for just $5 and then
publishing your book on Kindle is free! Once your book is published,
you’ll need to get the word out about your book and make sure to
offer it on free promotion from time to time to encourage downloads.
The more downloads your book receives, the higher it will appear in
Amazon’s search results.
You will receive between 35% and 70% royalty on each book sale
depending on what level you price it at. Most short (5000 word)
eBooks are sold at either $0.99 or $2.99, so you’ll need to sell a lot to
make a decent income. However, why stop at one? You could create
as many eBooks as you like, increasing your chances of getting a
good level of passive income, month after month. The earning
potential with Amazon and creating eBooks is just fantastic.
20. Craft Business
If you’re a dab hand at knitting, sewing, jewelry making, embroidery,
crochet, or beadweaving, you can turn your hobby into a nice little
sideline by selling your creations on handmade marketplaces like
Etsy or Folksy. Better still, you can create your own craft tutorials
and patterns for sale on your website if you have one, on YouTube or
those handmade marketplaces mentioned above. You can also sell at
craft fayres, in local shops or on eBay. You can even offer local
workshops to teach others craft skills.
21. Pet Sitting and Pet Boarding
If you love animals, pet sitting might just be your idea of heaven.
Many people do pet sitting on the side but this could actually turn
into a profitable full time pet boarding business if you kit your home
out with the right equipment and advertise your business in the right
places. You will need insurance and probably a website if you’re
planning to do this professionally and you’ll need to contact your
local authority to let them know about your business, as you may
require a special license.
In terms of fees, in the UK you can charge between £20 and £30 per
day for one dog and from $40 per day in the US. If you’re based in
the UK, this really helpful article explains how you can go about
setting up your own pet boarding business from home. If you’re US
based, check out this article.
22. Pet Grooming Business
Pet grooming is another home based business that you can set up,
although it does require a little training and some special equipment.
If you’ve ever tried to clip a dog’s paws or bath a beloved pet, you’ll
probably know that this is often no easy task. Professional pet
groomers know how to handle animals in the right way to ensure the
pet’s safety and their own! Here’s an overview of how to get started
in setting up a pet grooming business from home if you’re based in
the US and the same here for those in the UK.
23. Answering Online Surveys
Completing surveys is something that you can do in your lunch break
at work or in the evenings – basically you can fit it into your schedule
really easily. It’s not a huge earner – you can probably make around
$300 per year if you were doing this regularly, but it’s easy money if
you can give your views and opinions on different products and
services. Some of the websites that are willing to pay you to answer
simple surveys are www.iPoll.com, www.acop.com, and
www.getpaidsurveys.com. You can also check out the top 20 survey
companies in the UK.
24. Music Instructor
Enrolling to a music school is very expensive. Many parents are
willing to pay for a private music instructor to teach their kids how to
play the piano, guitar or other instrument. If you’re a musician, you
could charge a decent hourly rate for private lessons and fit this in
around your current work schedule. Advertising locally is the best
way to get started and then you should start getting word of mouth
recommendations.
25 Personal Trainer
Keeping fit and healthy is a huge priority for many people and
although most people know that in order to keep healthy they need
to eat well and exercise, they don’t always have the incentive or
motivation to do that themselves.
If you’re physically fit and enjoy working out, then you could be a
personal trainer working from home or locally. Not only can you
accompany your clients by working out with them, you can also hold
regular motivation and goal setting sessions via Skype or by phone.
It’s a rewarding profession which is low cost to set up – all you have
to do is find the clients.
26. Baking
If you have a talent for baking, you could start your own home
baking business, serving local customers and shops in your
neighborhood. With any small business, you’ll need a business plan
to work out how much you’ll need to set up, what you intend to
charge and how much profit you can expect to make.
Some considerations for a home baking business include making
sure you’re working to your local food hygiene regulations and that
your kitchen is equipped professionally and safely.
27. Answer questions
You can make money by answering questions for sites like Web
Answers and Cha Cha. Payment varies from being paid per question
answered question to being paid by the number of views your answer
gets. This isn’t a way to make a full time living, but if you enjoy
answering questions, then you can make some extra income from
home this way!
28. Photography
If you’ve got some skill with a camera, you could start earning money
by offering portraits or wedding photography. You could even turn
your home into a mini photo studio! To do this, you’ll need a really
good camera, light boxes, backdrops and you’d need to know your
way around Photoshop to touch up those all-important photos.
Photographers can make a decent amount of money, especially if you
can land a job with a company or business photographing corporate
events for example. You can build a relationship with such a
company so that they return to you for future work. A photographer’s
business comes from having an excellent portfolio, so if you’re
starting out, you could photograph your friends and family for free to
get some experience.
29. Host Parties or Meetings
If your home has a large garden, or spare rooms, you could consider
letting out some space for meetings, small gatherings or celebration
events. For example, if you have a lot of land with your home, you
could advertise that you are willing to hire your space for events
taking place in a marquee. The customer could be responsible for
hiring a marquee and all you’d need to do is let them in. Advertise
locally for this and also approach your local wedding or
accommodation venues to see if they would recommend you if you
were to do the same for them.
30. Product Reviewer
If you’re willing to spend time trying new products and then
reviewing them, this could be an exciting side hustle that you can do
from home. Big companies like to get their products tested before
putting them out to market and they need reviewers just like you!
Not only do you get tons of free stuff, but you can actually get paid
some serious cash for this depending on the product in question.
What’s not to like?
31. Sewing and Alterations
If you’re skilled when it comes to sewing, there will be a great
opportunity for you to earn money from home. You could do
alterations such as shortening trousers or jeans and even make
wedding or bridesmaid dresses from scratch depending on your skill
level.
If you can get into sewing for weddings, you can make a good
amount of money here; because of course wedding attire is very
expensive to buy, even off the shelf. Some brides buy dresses second
hand because of the sheer cost of a new dress. When that happens,
more often than not, they’ll need alternations – and for wedding
alternations, you can charge more than usual. Advertise yourself
locally and tell your friends to refer you to their friends, nothing
beats word of mouth!
32. Medical Transcription
If you’re a good typist and familiar with medical terminology, you
could try your hand at becoming a medical transcriptionist. It can be
a great way for you to have a stable source of income while working
from home. You will listen to dictated recordings made by doctors
and other medical specialists and type them out into medical reports
and other administrative materials. Look out for this kind of work on
Odesk, Elance or Flex Jobs.
33. Get Paid for Using Your Smartphone
Nowadays, there are a lot of apps that you can use in order to earn
money by just doing easy jobs such as taking a picture of a menu,
taking a selfie of you with a certain product, or even confirming that
a road is out of use. Some of the apps that offer these kinds of tasks
are: We Reward; Gigwalk; Juno Wallet; CheckPoints and more. This
could be a nice earner on the side.
34. Teach English
Learning English as a second language is very in demand in Asia, and
because of this more and more websites are operating to teach
people English through video calls. Unlike becoming a private tutor,
you don’t have to be a qualified teacher to do this, as long as English
is your first language and you have the ability to teach the basics.
Skype Teaching Jobs is one site you can visit for jobs like this - as of
publishing this book, all their teaching vacancies are filled but they
will have more vacancies as more students come on board. You can
also apply to Open English, although they require their teachers to
also speak Spanish.
35. Rent Out Your Car
If you own a car, but you don’t use it all that much, you could rent it
out via websites like Relay Rides. For Relay Rides, the listing criteria
means that your car would need to be a passenger car legally
registered in the US, be model 2002 or newer, have fewer than
100,000 miles and have a fair market value of up to $75K. You can
list more than one car on here to make even more money. You’d be
fully insured and only good drivers can apply to rent your car, so this
is a side income well worth considering.
36. Virtual Assistant
Lots of companies consider using a Virtual Assistant these days as
many administrative tasks can be done remotely. If you have strong
office, administration, PA and computer skills, you could start your
own business from home doing this, working the hours you want.
You can take on as many or as few clients as you can handle and the
workload would be varied and interesting because you’re not stuck to
one particular job or client.
You’ll need office equipment, an internet connection and a phone
line. You can keep an eye out for jobs through Elance, Odesk,
VirtualAssistants.com, Freelancer and others.
37. Rent a Friend
You can earn up to $50 per hour by renting yourself out as a friend
through sites like Rent a Friend. This isn’t a dating website and is for
strictly platonic purposes! Sometimes, people really do need a guest
for special dinners or a wedding and they are prepared to pay for the
pleasure of a friend’s company. You can be that friend while being
your own boss, setting your own hours and charging your own rates.
38. Virtual Nursing
If you are a registered nurse, you might not be aware that are a
number of nursing roles that you can do from home. An example of a
nursing role like this is a Telephone Triage Nurse, where you would
assess a patient’s condition over the phone. You’d have to be highly
skilled and experienced as well as be able to manage your time
effectively. Some of the sites where you can apply at are Virtual
Vocations and Flex Jobs.
39. Online College Instructor
If you hold a master’s degree in the area that you want to teach, you
might be able to consider working from home as an Online College
Instructor. Part time work is often easier to find than full time work
and rates of pay vary. As an example, if you were to teach a semester
long course, you could receive in the region of $1500. See the
‘resources’ chapter for more information on how to go about
becoming an online course instructor.
40. Yard Sale
If you want to make some money quickly, then holding a yard sale
(or several) is a good way to make some instant cash for getting rid of
your old things that you don’t want anyway. Unlike eBay, there are
no fees for holding your own yard sale!
41. Take In a Boarder
If you have a spare room and you don’t mind sharing your home,
taking in a boarder or lodger is a great way to receive regular extra
income every month. You could rent to a friend or family member if
you’re worried about not getting on with someone that you don’t
really know. Renting out your spare room in the UK is a very tax
efficient way of earning money - because you’re allowed to take a
rental income of up to £4,250 annually tax free. Anything above that,
you must declare for tax purposes.
42. Develop an App
You’ve heard of the Flappy Bird app, I presume? Allegedly, the
creation of this particular app at one point racked up a whopping
$50K a day in advertising revenue. On the face of it, it looks so
simple – you repeatedly tap the screen to make the flappy bird go up
or down to avoid the pipes. Frustrating? Yes. Addictive? Definitely.
So if you’re interested in making an app, I wouldn’t be at all
surprised. However, how does the average person go about making
an app at all, never mind an extraordinarily successful one? Well,
you are going to need to know about coding, which is something that
of course can be learned. Once you know the basics, here are several
tutorials to get you started.
43. Run an Online Store
Rather than open an eBay shop, you could open your own online
store instead, avoiding eBay fees altogether. There would be a few
overheads to consider, namely the stock for your store. However you
can set up an ecommerce website using WordPress for a very
reasonable fee. It cuts out the middleman and you get the chance to
build your own brand and make valued relationships with your
customers who will appreciate your goods and not necessarily be out
to get a bargain (like with eBay).
You would have to put a lot of effort in at the beginning to get your
online store ranking in search engine results but once the launch is
done and you start building your customer base, this could be a very
successful venture if you have a product in mind.
44. Online Juror
If you’ve ever wondered what it would be like to be a juror, this
particular way of making money could be very interesting indeed.
You can apply to sites like Online Verdict (if you’re a US citizen) and
feedback on case summaries that have been submitted by real
lawyers. You can receive from $20 to $60 per case!
45. Venue Sourcing Business
A great job you can do from home is to set up a venue sourcing
business. You can work with local businesses and companies to
arrange their meeting or events in various venues. You can also book
accommodation or business dinners for clients too. The great thing
about this business is that you’ll be purely earning commissions from
the venues themselves, usually 10% - 15% of anything booked. So if
you were to organize the facilities for an annual conference for 100
members of staff, plus their accommodation at a hotel, you’d be
taking at least a 10% cut of the total booking cost.
Because you’ll be working on a commission basis, you shouldn’t have
much trouble finding clients to use your services because your
service won’t cost them anything at all – in fact it will save them a lot
of time and effort. The only thing to bear in mind is that you’ll get
paid once the booking has been fulfilled, so if a booking is a whole
year away, you’ll need to be prepared to wait. To get started, contact
your local major venues and tell them you’re setting up in business.
Ask for their commission structure and start creating a database.
Then set yourself up with a basic website and look for clients.
46. Online Travel Agent
There are two ways you can become a travel agent working from
home. The first is to simply offer your services locally and work on
behalf of your clients to get the best deals for their trip. If you can
build up relationships with various hotels and airline companies, you
should be able to receive a discount or a commission for booking
with them regularly. You could also offer a fixed price to your client
for arranging a travel package e.g. 10% of the price of the holiday
booked.
Many people can’t be bothered with the hassle of shopping around
for the best holiday deals and because they’ll end up saving money
overall, such people are willing to pay a bit more for a travel agent to
take care of things. The second way to work from home as a travel
agent is to use a host agency such as ARCC. Using a host agency
means that you’ll have access to training and support as well as travel
agent booking systems which will make your life a bit easier no
doubt. There is a monthly fee involved and you’ll receive 70% of
commissions if using this particular host agency.
47. Clinical Research Trials
If you’re willing to take part in clinical trials, then you could earn
some decent money from this from time to time. This is definitely
not a full time income and you’d need to carefully check out what
each trial involved and decide whether it’s for you or not. Clinical
trials do come with some risk of side effects, because they are trials
after all. So it’s really important that you’re fully aware of what any
potential side effects could be before signing up to anything. Some
risks just aren’t worth taking. To get started, check with your local
hospital to see if they’re looking for anyone right now.
48. Seasonal Jobs
There are quite a few jobs you can do that are seasonal, such as
becoming a Santa’s Grotto helper, or working in your local
supermarket during the busy Christmas rush. If you have the right
financial qualifications, you could assist with tax preparation in the
tax season for example or work as a life guard on the beach in the
summer months. You can even work as a call center agent from
home during the holiday season for Amazon or Teleflora. Here’s a
whole list of holiday seasonal jobs you could perhaps do.
49. Host a Foreign Exchange Student
If you have a spare room, you could host a foreign exchange student
in return for a tax free payment and a mutually beneficial cultural
experience. As the host, you’ll be expected to provide breakfast, an
evening meal and a quiet room for the student to study and sleep in.
In addition, you’ll be treating the student as a member of your
family, sharing with them the ways of your culture and in return,
they’ll enrich your family life by sharing theirs. Students make their
own way to University once they know where to get public transport
from etc.
In the US, you can expect to receive $187 to $255 per week per
student to cover supervision and board. In the UK, you can receive
from £10.50 per student per day. The time the student is with you is
usually at least 4 weeks and can be for up to one school year,
depending on how long you want to host for. There are many
organizations where you can apply to become a host; a couple of
them are Home Stay Network in the US and Into Education in the
UK.
50. Data Entry
Data entry isn’t the best paid job in the world, but this is something
that you can do from home around your day job. In some cases you
can be paid $10-$12 per hour. You can find data entry jobs on oDesk,
eLance and here’s a great big list of other data entry job providers.
51. Gardening
If you’re green fingered and know your plants from your weeds, with
some basic equipment, you could start up your own gardening
business. If you want to be a landscape gardener, you will need some
qualifications and a lot of experience; however you can make a
decent amount of money just tidying up your neighbor’s gardens by
mowing lawns, cutting hedges, planting flowerbeds and removing
weeds. You could charge an hourly or day rate and undertake a flyer
drop in your neighborhood to start getting your few clients.
With this business, you can expect repeat customers if you do a good
job. You could also approach local businesses and offer to tidy up any
decorative garden areas surrounding their premises. It might be
worth volunteering at first to demonstrate your skills.
52. Rent Out Your Garage
If you have a garage that you don’t use, you could rent it privately to
someone else that does need it. Alternatively, if you can invest a little
money and soundproof your garage, you could rent it as a music
studio. There are always musicians looking for places to practice and
most will bring their own equipment.
Another great use for an unused garage is to turn it into a small gym
and charge people to use it. Gym memberships can cost an absolute
fortune these days and although some people like to go to a fancy
gym, others are just looking for a good workout without having to
pay through the nose for it. One thing to bear in mind here is to
make sure you meet your local health and safety regulations and
you’re covered with the right kind of insurance in case anyone had an
accident.
53. Scrapbooking
Scrapbooking has turned from a fun hobby to a huge money making
industry. You can make money scrapbooking by either making chic
and classy scrapbooks for clients to remind them of a special event
like their wedding or newborn baby, or by becoming a scrapbooking
retailer, selling scrapbooking items online through Etsy or eBay for
example. You could consider attending scrapbooking workshops to
brush up on your skills and the latest trends and even start a
scrapbooking blog to make money that way.
54. Mystery Shopping
Mystery shopping or secret shopping involves being a fly on the wall
so to speak, observing customer service and product quality at stores
and restaurants. For a mystery shopper at a restaurant, you usually
get reimbursed for your meal. For other jobs involving testing
products, you can earn from $12 to $25 and sometimes much more
depending on the job in question. You’ll always know in advance
what the payment will be.
This kind of work is especially useful if you can take on an
assignment at short notice, which is what many mystery shopping
companies like. You can apply and get more information at Secret
Shopper (US) and Mystery Shoppers (UK).
55. Make Money by Recycling
Recycling is really important to do of course for the benefit of the
environment, but did you know you can make money from it too?
You can receive a small amount of cash for recycling tin cans for
example, but you can also make money from recycling wine corks (by
selling them to collectors and crafters on eBay), used car tires and
even tennis balls. So before you throw anything away, check to see
whether it can be recycled first and foremost and then whether
there’s an opportunity to make money from it.
56. Carwash Service
Many people are too busy (or tired) to wash their car and although
they could take their car down to their local carwash, there are still
some people that won’t look at anything else other than a luxury
hand wash for their beloved car. There is a definite chance of cars
getting scratched or the aerial being left up at some point when going
through a car wash!
If you can offer a mobile car wash service in your local area, taking
your equipment with you, you could approach local businesses with a
view to cleaning employee’s cars in their car parks. This is a win-win
because the customer doesn’t have to even leave their desk to get
their car cleaned and means that they’re more likely to take you up
on your service.
You can make a serious amount of money washing cars. The
emphasis here is on quantity as well as quality. For example, if you
can wash 15 cars per day at $25 each time, that’s $375 per day. Your
expenses would be very low because all you’d need is carwash
shampoo, water, car sponges and microfiber drying cloths. You could
charge extra for a wax polish. Imagine if you could earn that kind of
money 4 days per week?
57. Become a Doula
This one is for women rather than men! A Birth Doula is someone
who assists a ‘mum to be’ during pregnancy, at the birth of her child
and after the birth. Doulas are mothers themselves and they provide
emotional support for new mothers who are getting to grips with
becoming a parent for the first time.
In the US, you can expect to earn between $300-$700 for two
prenatal visits, support during childbirth and 2 postpartum visits. In
the UK, you can earn £12-£15 per hour as a Doula and £250 to £500
to be present at a birth. To become a Doula, you need to complete a
short training course and you can find work by registering with Dona
and British Doulas.
58. Bed-And-Breakfast
If you have a couple of spare rooms with en-suites and a communal
living area, you can turn your home into a Bed and Breakfast. This
works well if you live near the countryside or near a beach or seaside
resort as many people use B&Bs for a weekend retreat.
Running a B&B is no easy task as there are early mornings to
contend with, daily cleaning and laundry, making breakfast and
being on hand to address the needs of your guests. If you want to
take a weekend off or even a holiday, you’ll have to pay to get
someone else in to cover. In addition, you’ll need to be responsible
for fixing any problems and managing your accounts. That being said
though, for anyone who wants to create a home based business
which can be extremely profitable, if you have the space, this is well
worth considering.
59. Computer Repair Technician
If you’re a dab hand at repairing computers, you could take a couple
of courses to become certified before offering your services locally or
even online. You’d be responsible for diagnosing and resolving
hardware and software problems for your clients. You could charge
an hourly rate or fixed job rate, this work is flexible and you can be
your own boss.
60. Flower Arranging Business
If you enjoy flower arranging, you can actually make quite a bit of
money from arranging flowers for centerpieces and bouquets for
special events like weddings, parties and even funerals. To get
started you’d need to create a portfolio and build a relationship with
a wholesale florist supply company.
You can also take flower arranging workshops to brush up on your
skills (and offer them yourself once you’ve built up your business).
You could approach local wedding venues and ask them to promote
you and vice versa, then advertise locally and get your own website
up and running to create an online presence.
61. Make Greetings Cards
Card making, like scrapbooking, is one of those fun hobbies which
you can actually make a nice side income from. High quality
handmade cards look really beautiful and you can charge a premium
price for them. You can sell them on your own website, or by hiring a
little space in local shops or boutiques. In addition, you can sell card
making craft items as a retailer on Etsy or eBay.
62. House Cleaning
If you think cleaning is a poorly paid job, think again. A self-
employed cleaner can charge anywhere from $10 to $30 per hour for
general house cleaning. A good way to make this work is to charge
for a minimum of two hours, that way it’s worth your time in driving
to and from your client’s house. You can charge more for heavier
cleaning jobs like an oven clean or in ‘hard to get to’ places.
As your business grows, you can consider taking on staff yourself and
earning from each job that you book on their behalf. Advertise your
services locally and because you can be your own boss, you can work
evenings, weekends, part time or even full time.
63. Laundry Service
As with ironing, many people hate - or don’t have time – to do their
laundry, especially larger items such as duvets. You can offer to do
this for them and have it ready for them to be collected when they
need it. You’ll need to make sure your own washing machine is up to
the job and that it’s large enough to take on big items like duvets –
same with your tumble dryer.
64. Massage Therapist
A trained massage therapist can earn from $40-$50 per hour
working from home in the US. You’d need a quiet room that you can
use with a massage table along with some basic equipment and
insurance and you can pretty much take on as many clients as you
like. However, massage is quite a physically demanding job; so many
massage therapists tend to work part time and supplement their
income by doing something else too. In the UK, you can earn from
£20K to £40K per year as a massage therapist working from home.
65. Mobile Nail Technician Business
This is another great flexible business you can do from home, if
you’re a skilled manicurist or nail technician. You can easily do a
course to become a nail technician, although this will cost you along
with the cost of your equipment. In the US, there have been reports
of some nail technicians earning in excess of $100K per year; this
obviously depends on the technician’s experience, skills and ability to
get bookings. In the UK, you can charge £15 to £20 per hour for
basic treatments when starting out and more as your experience
grows. Insurance is a must!
66. Rent Out Your Stuff
You can rent out much more than your car these days to make
money. If you own gardening equipment such as a lawnmower or a
hedge trimmer, expensive tools or bikes, you can rent them out to
people who would rather not buy them outright for the odd use.
Websites like Rentything in Canada allow you to open your own
rental shop for free where you can do just that!
67. Vegetable Growing
Growing your own vegetables not only saves you money and is better
for you; it can actually make you money too. You can sell your own
vegetables right on your doorstep, using a basket and ‘trust’ tin for
passing trade. You can also do this with fresh eggs if you have
chickens for example. If you have an abundance of vegetables
growing, you could see if your local store will take a supply from you,
or sell to local cafes or via local farmer’s markets.
68. Wedding Planning
If you have experience of event management, party planning or
organizing your own wedding, you could become a wedding planner.
Even though many brides like to plan their own weddings, some just
don’t have the time to shop around for the best deals and that’s
where you could come in. You could actually save the bride and
groom money on their wedding whilst getting paid yourself.
You don’t necessarily need any qualifications to become a wedding
planner, but you do need experience. You could offer to organize
your friends’ weddings for free and use this to get testimonials. Your
services could include venue sourcing; organizing weddings abroad;
dress shopping; honeymoon booking; arranging catering,
photographers and the entertainment and much more. You could
charge a percentage of the wedding budget or agree a fixed cost for
certain planning elements with the bride and groom. To attract
clients, it’s worth investing in a website and brochures for a
professional look and start by exhibiting at local wedding fayres to
showcase your services.
69. Sell Your Story
If you have a great story to tell, you can be paid for submitting your
story to local magazines or newspapers and even on TV. Some
tabloids will be happy to pay you thousands of dollars for factually
correct stories that the public will want to know about. Examples of
interesting stories could involve celebrity exclusives, real life dramas,
how you’ve been scammed by a rogue trader, local fundraising events
and much more.
70. Website Tester
If you have access to a computer and the internet, you can become a
website tester, which is a great way to supplement your income while
working from home. You can sign up with companies such as User
Testing and get paid $10 for around 20 minutes of work. To test a
website, you’ll be given instructions on how to record a video
screenshot (with your voice narrating) of the test. Your face will not
be shown so if you’re camera shy you don’t need to worry.
To test a website, you don’t need to be an expert because the clients
who are looking for users need an honest test from people who aren’t
experts! You’ll also be required to provide a short written summary
too after video recording the test.
71. Work from Home for Google
Google sometimes offers telecommuting jobs. Though it’s not offered
any time of the year, it is still worth checking out because of course
working for Google would be life-changing. Many Google jobs are
quite techy, so if that’s your field, you can search for Google jobs
here.
72. Translator
If you’re bilingual, you might consider becoming a translator
working from home. An experienced translator can earn around
$0.08 per word or they can charge an hourly rate depending on their
fee structure. The most in demand languages that usually require
translation are Chinese, Japanese, Korean, French, German, and
Spanish. You can find work as a translator on oDesk, eLance and
Freelancer.
73. Transcription
If you’re a fast audio typist, you can make some money on the side by
transcribing audio files for companies like Scribie. In this case, you’ll
get paid $10 per audio hour – that’s the amount of audio time you
successfully subscribe, not the amount of time you spend working.
Really, you need a typing speed of 80wpm to make this side income
work. Then, the more you work, the more you can earn. Payment is
by PayPal, within 1 business day.
74. Buying and Selling Domains
Although many domains have already been taken, if you can think
ahead for the next big trend or business venture and be creative, you
might just be able to buy a good and catchy domain at a low price,
ready for sale later for a larger amount. Worthy domains are usually
one, two and three word domains which end in .com. You can buy
and sell domains on sites like Flippa.
75. Get-Paid-To Sites
Get-paid-to or simply GPT sites are becoming more and more
popular among people who want to earn extra income around their
day jobs. You can get paid for registering for free sites, subscribing to
newsletters, playing games, watching videos and answering online
surveys. You can check out the Top 50 GPT sites here.
76. Designing WordPress Themes
If you’re familiar with WordPress and WordPress coding, you may be
able to create your own premium blog theme template designs which
you can then sell via Creative Market or Theme Forest. This is a great
way to make passive income if you can learn how to do this, because
once you’ve created your product, it has the potential to sell over and
over again.
77. Trading stocks
This way of working from home is not for the faint hearted and
depending on what kind of trading you want to do, this might involve
scraping together a fair amount of capital to get started. However,
you can begin trading forex from as little as $100 to open your
account. If you’re a beginner, there’s a lot to learn about trading
before you start.
78. Create your own clothing line
If you have an eye for fashion, you might consider developing your
own clothing line. You can create your own clothing company from
scratch or sell your designs by working with retailers like Fabricly,
who will pay you a 70% commission should they choose to go ahead
with your designs.
79. YouTube Channel
Share your knowledge in the form of a video and upload it to your
own channel on YouTube. Videos that receive lots of visits can make
quite a bit of money month after month from Google Adsense ads.
It’s really easy to get Adsense up and running. You could film some
video tutorials, funny videos, anything that other people might enjoy
watching. If you don’t want to show your face, you can use video
screen software such as Jing or Snagit to take video screenshots of
your laptop or PC as you demonstrate how to use some software or
how to draw a picture of an elephant in Illustrator – whatever it is
that you can do. One mistake that many people make when
uploading YouTube videos is to not add much content into the title
and description column. If you use these areas properly and really
describe the video, using relevant keywords, your video will climb up
the YouTube search rankings, giving you more chances of getting
your video in front of as many people as possible.
80. Become a Professional Researcher
If you enjoy learning new things and have excellent attention to
detail, you could find work from home as a professional freelance
researcher. Jobs like this are frequently advertised on oDesk, eLance
and Freelancer. You could focus on specific research fields such as
medical and legal or support businesses with whatever it is they need
market research on. Researching information means being able to
present your findings in an organized and accurate way and then
being able to analyze it. You could charge an hourly rate or a fixed fee
per project.
81. Use Your Voice
You can work from anywhere by using your voice and you can earn
some decent money in the process. Sites like Voices allow you to join
for free and by simply uploading a recording sample of your voice,
clients can start hiring you. For a fee, you can start applying for
available jobs – some of which pay very good money – as much as
$300 for a short radio commercial.
82. Reading Emails
If you’re looking for a very easy way to start making money from
home, you can sign up with companies like Inbox Dollars or Donkey
Mails to read and respond to emails and offers. You won’t earn tons
of money by doing this – it can be as little as $0.01 to $0.03 for each
email opened. But with this being such easy work and only taking
just a few seconds of your time for each one, then why not?
83. Blog Commenting
Many busy bloggers don’t have time to comment on other blogs, yet
this is something that they strive to do because of the chance of
getting referral traffic and networking. You can help bloggers free up
their time by commenting on relevant blogs on their behalf. To make
this work, you’d have to make sure to read any blog posts properly
and leave a high quality comment (not too long though).
You can charge $1 or more for each blog comment and if you can do
this for a few blog owners, you can soon make a nice side income
from this. To get started, look out for blogs that offer content that
you’re interested in, say fashion or saving money for example, then
contact those bloggers directly and offer your services. In addition,
you can also be paid for commenting on a blogger’s own blog posts.
Why would they want you to do that? Well, if a blog is fairly new and
doesn’t get much reader engagement, the blogger may ask someone
(like you) to leave a teaser comment first. This is a good way to get
the ball rolling with comments, so many bloggers are happy to pay
someone for this service.
84. Become a Professional Organizer
If you’re a very organized type of person, you could consider
becoming a professional organizer. This job can involve working with
businesses to design more efficient working practices, such as
implementing a robust filing system for example. Or it could involve
working with individuals who are looking to organize their homes,
closets and lives in general!
Professional organizers make better use of small spaces, find ways to
store things properly and have a passion for neatness. This industry
is currently unregulated, so you don’t need any formal qualifications.
However, it may help to become certified by organizations such as
NAPO. Average earnings for a professional organizer can be in the
region of $40K per year.
85. Kitsy Lane Online Jewelry Boutique
Kitsy Lane is a direct sales business. Unlike most opportunities like
this though, it’s completely free to set up. You sign up with Kitsy
Lane (US residents only) and they give you a free website, where you
can customize your online jewelry boutique by adding products to it.
Then you promote your boutique and try to get traffic to the site. You
earn a commission from sales (25%) and you can also sign up other
people to open their own boutique under you, then you earn from
their sales too. It will take some effort to get the word out but this is a
really great way of trying out a new business venture with no
investment needed.
86. Rent Out Your Bike, Snowboard or Skis
If you are the owner of outdoor equipment such as a bike, snowboard
or skis, you can rent them out on Spinlister. You just list your item
and then Spinlister contact you when they find a renter match. This
is useful if you only go skiing every so often for example and would
otherwise be keeping your equipment stored idly until then.
87. Build Furniture
If you have carpentry skills, instead of repainting furniture, you
could build it from scratch. Good quality furniture is very expensive
to buy, but if you have the right skills, you could create your own
stylish furniture range, working out of your home if you have a
garage or workshop. You could then sell your products locally or
even online.
88. Bookkeeping
If you’ve got experience working with accounts, you could become a
self-employed book keeper, working with small businesses to help
prepare their accounts. Your work would involve recording sales and
purchase transactions, payroll, collections, payment of bills etc. You
don’t need formal qualifications to become a bookkeeper but you will
usually need to be familiar with some bookkeeping software.
89. Sell Your Recipes
With so many recipes online, is it really possible to make money
from yours? In my opinion, yes, but only if it’s done in the right way.
You could package together a collection of recipes into an eBook and
sell it on Amazon or Barnes and Noble. Or you could start a blog
around recipes, at first publishing your recipes for free. Once you
have traffic you could turn your blog into a membership site where
people sign up to get notified about your delicious recipes. If you
have a real talent for cooking, then it won’t be long before you get
members.
90. Rent Out Your Home For Films
A cool way to earn extra income is by registering with websites like
Film Locations Wanted to list your home for possible use by film
production companies. You can have a basic listing for free or pay a
little extra for more prominence. If your home is chosen, you can
earn some extra income and enjoy the excitement of your home
being used for a film shoot! You can also list any props too such as
vehicles, antiques or anything you own which is a bit unusual and
hard to get hold of.
91. Become an Extra
If you happen to live in an area where a film is being made, you’ll
probably come across adverts locally for film extras. You can also
register with agencies, there are tons online, or check with your local
film commission about when they’ll need extras for their next
projects. Film or TV extras come in all sorts of shapes and sizes and
the pay is very good if you’re called upon (from $100 to $300 on
average). There will usually be a lot of standing around to do but you
can meet some great people and possibly see some celebrities in the
process. If you happen to get a couple of lines speaking, you can
expect to get paid more.
92. Review Music
If you love music, you can get paid for listening to unsigned bands
and writing reviews on Slice the Pie. It’s not a huge earner but if you
listened to a few tracks per day for around 5-10 minutes, you could
make around $10 per month. Doesn’t sound like a lot, but if this is
something you enjoy, you could ramp it up and earn more. If you
write longer reviews, there’s more chance of earning more and you
will also receive bonus tracks to listen to which have a higher payout.
Payment is processed quickly, through PayPal.
93. Sell unwanted DVDs , CDs and Games
If you have tons of old DVDs and CDs that you no longer use, rather
than selling them on eBay, you can avoid the eBay fees and use
online sites like Decluttr, Spun or Music Magpie.
94. Lifestyle Assistant
This role is different to that of a personal assistant or a virtual
assistant, because instead of being business related, it’s more focused
on assisting people (usually busy execs) with matters in their
personal life. Specific tasks could be arranging social gatherings,
personal shopping, booking personal appointments or travel and
remembering to send flowers to your client’s relatives on special
occasions! You’d be surprised at just how many people need help
with organizing their personal lives, while they’re busy with their
professional lives! You can charge an hourly rate and advertise
locally.
95. Write Travel Guides
You can be paid for writing travel guides for websites like Simon
Seeks. They’re always looking for well-written travel guides for
different travel destinations so if you enjoy travelling and have plenty
to say on this subject, this could be for you. How the payment side of
things works is as follows: Simon Seeks aims to distribute 50% of the
net revenue generated by travel guides to the community of writers
who have posted those guides. Distribution is done via a monthly
prize draw, which involves three tiers of prizes from £5 to £150.
96. Match Betting
Match betting is not quite the same as gambling, because generally if
you know what you’re doing, it’s considered risk free and it’s
completely legal in case you were wondering. How it works is by
using free bets and incentives offered by bookmakers, to bet against
both sides. For example, when betting on a football match, you’d
place a bet to win and a bet with the other team to lose. To start with,
you’d have to pay money for the first bet in order to get a free bet
from a bookmaker. This strategy is based on mathematical equation
and you can learn how to use this double betting technique here.
97. Write Science Fiction and Fantasy
If you enjoy writing and have a particular interest in science fiction,
you can submit short stories to Clonepod who broadcast science
fiction and fantasy stories via podcasts. They are willing to pay $25
via PayPal for every 2,000 word story approved. They are an audio
production company and you still hold the rights to your work once
they’ve recorded it.
98. Sell Your Photos
You don’t need to be a professional photographer or take any kind of
photography lessons, but if you have an archive of nice, ordinary
digital shots you can sell them through different online agencies such
as Fotolia and 123RF. Most agencies don’t require a fee for you to
register and you can earn a good commission, sometimes several
thousands of dollars per month depending on your quality and
quantity of photos.
99. Sell Your Music
If you’re a musician, you don’t have be a signed artist to sell your
music. You can sell your music via TuneCore and get played on
iTunes, Spotify, Amazon and 80+ digital stores across the world! You
get to keep 100% of the revenue that your music earns too.
100. Sell Your Art
If you’re a talented artist, photographer or sculptor, you can sell your
work via Artpal. There are no membership fees to worry about and
you can set the price of your work. Artpal only gets paid when you
sell your work, even then you can earn a 95% commission. This site
can handle print and shipping for you, or you can manage that
yourself.
101. Kids Craft Workshops
Kids love crafts and most kids like getting messy. Better still, most
parents prefer their children to get messy elsewhere outside of their
own home! If you can offer a kid’s craft program at your home a few
times a week (or even at a local café) which allows them to be
creative, you could make this into a nice little earner. You’ll need to
have public liability insurance that’s specific to working with children
and make sure you’re CRB checked. Be aware of any rules around
registering with your local authority. As long as the parents are
present, you shouldn’t run into too many paperwork issues.

Chapter 4 – Final Words

It’s very often drilled into people that having a real job means
working at an office, store, factory, or anywhere that is away from
home. But if you use your creativity and the power of technology, you
will find many opportunities to earn extra money from home and in
some cases, be able to make the switch to self-employment, while
earning more than ever before. Working from home has many
positives associated with it, such as working around your family and
not having to spend too much money on fuel. You can be your own
boss and work your own hours, leaving you more time to spend as
you please. With some jobs, you can even work in your pajamas,
from the comfort of your sofa all day!
However, there are some considerations to be aware of if you’re
intending to work from home. One consideration is around planning
your time effectively, so that you can get your work done without
getting distracted. Another is to separate your work and home life,
because sometimes the two can mix and you’ll end up trying to get
your work done whilst making dinner for the family! Be aware that if
you’re sick or need a holiday, you probably won’t get paid and make
sure to do your research in order to work with trusted companies and
individuals. Being your own boss means losing the protection a
company can provide you with, so if you’re planning to make the
switch to full self-employment from home, you should consider
setting aside an emergency fund to cover you if you can’t work for
some reason. If you make extra money in addition to your day job or
decide to go self-employed working from home, you’ll need to be
aware of your tax obligations and make sure you’re doing what you
need to do on that front. On the whole though, working from home
has huge benefits for your general health and wellbeing as well as for
your pocket!
