Learning Activity 1. Analysis of Decisions

This activity addresses the basic concepts of decision-making. It is important to

remember that making decisions is something we normally do day by day. From
the moment we get up to the moment we go to bed, we make decisions such as
what clothes to wear, what to have for breakfast, what way to take for going home,
etcetera.

At a corporate level, decisions must be made with greater care and caution. It is
said that the best decisions are the best informed. Good decisions are not easily
achieved because they need a previous, arduous and orderly mental process.
However, it is necessary to consider the specific circumstances at decision-making
and analyzing each of them carefully. Nothing a manager does is more important
than using the best available information to make good decisions. Damage caused
by a bad decision could be catastrophic to the organization.

In this activity, you will identify and analyze the impact of management level,
management function and temporal horizon on an organization’s decision-making.

Check the following sources:

• Analysis of Decisions
• Decision Making Baker, K. (2015, December 10). Decision-Making [Video
file]. Retrieved from https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yZVCkwRhCv0

Once you have reviewed the material, design a concept map in which the
organization’s decision-making typology is shown related to the management level,
management function and temporal horizon.

Send your concept map through this tasks mailbox no later than the second
day of the first work week before 23:55 hours.

Introduction.
The decision-making process is a fundamental aspect of everyday life and any
organization, from the simple choices we make in our daily routines to complex
decisions that impact the course of a company or even a nation. This process is
inherent to the human condition and is based on a combination of rational and
emotional factors. In a world characterized by increasing complexity and an
information deluge, decision-making has evolved into an interdisciplinary field of
study.

Various disciplines, from economics and psychology to game theory and artificial
intelligence, have contributed their perspectives to better understand how
decisions are formulated and executed. Effective decision-making is rooted in a
systematic process that involves problem identification and definition, option
generation, the evaluation of those options based on predefined criteria, and
ultimately, the selection of the optimal choice.

However, reality demonstrates that this process can be influenced by numerous

cognitive biases, social pressures, emotions, and other variables that often
challenge pure logic. It is crucial to understand these factors to make more
informed and effective decisions, both personally and professionally. It is also
important to emphasize the significance of strategic planning, ethical decision-
making, and risk management in the business context, as well as the application of
advanced analytical and technological approaches to enhance the accuracy and
efficiency of decisions in an increasingly complex world.

Throughout our lives, we will unravel the decision-making process in all its
dimensions, highlighting its vital importance in making informed choices and
achieving personal and organizational goals.
