ADVISORY FOR THE MBBS EXAMINATION

This is in regard with the Public Notice No. No. U-14021/01/2024-UGMEB GOI issued by the
UGMEB, NMC on dated 06th February, 2024 regarding Video Recording to be furnished for the
forth coming annual Examinations for every phase of MBBS (1st MBBS, 2nd MBBS, 3rd-First
MBBS and 3rd-Final) alongwith the completed STANDARD ASSESSMENT FORM- C (copy of the
Notice & SAF is enclosed s Annexure 1 & 2). In this regard, you are requested to follow the
detailed CBME guidelines as recommended by the NMC on dated 12.06.2023. You are
furthermore requested to follow the guidelines as prescribed below for the Video Recording
and take the necessary actions accordingly:

GENERAL GUIDELINES TO BE FOLLOWED:


1. University examinations are to be designed to assess the knowledge, skills, ethical and
professional values on the fundamentals of the candidates.
2. Practical /clinical examinations shall be conducted in the laboratories and /or hospital
wards are to be designed to assess proficiency and skills to conduct experiments,
interpret data and form logical conclusion.
3. Viva/oral examination should assess approach to patient management, emergencies
and attitudinal, ethical and professional values.
4. A Feedback Form needs to be designed for the Students/Examiners by incorporating
Open/Closed Ended Questions, Likert Scale needs to be used for Closed Ended
Questions. This feedback form needs to consider the followings:

A.) FOR THE STUDENTS:


i. Nature of the questions–MCQs/SAQs/Structured Essay type/Long answers
ii. Type of Questions – Recall based/Application based/Problem based
iii. Standard of questions - level of difficulty: Easy / Moderate / Difficult
iv. Does the examination broadly cover the prescribed curriculum?
v. Time allotted for different sections of the examination.
vi. No. of Long cases and Short cases
vii. Have all the candidates been uniformly examined.
viii. Was the atmosphere friendly and allowed the candidates to express themselves
freely?
ix. Were supplementary questions asked by the examiners to gauze the depth of
knowledge of the candidates?
x. Was the assessment done jointly by more than one Examiner?
xi. Rate the content of the interaction while Viva-Voce (Give extent of coverage of
subject)
xii. The standard of the Theory/ Practical Examination displayed (On a scale of 10
where 0 = Very poor and 10 = Outstanding)
xiii. Rate the conduction of the examination. (On a scale of 10 where 0 = Very poor
and 10 = Outstanding)

B.) FOR THE EXAMINERS:


i. Standard of the answers: (On a scale of 10 where 0 = Very poor and 10 =
Outstanding)
ii. The standard of the Theory/ Practical Examination displayed (On a scale of 10
where 0 = Very poor and 10 = Outstanding)
iii. Minimum marks required for passing:
iv. How many cases were given to each candidate – long and short cases?
v. Type of cases given (attach list of long and short cases)
vi. Average time for (long cases and short cases) for each Candidate.
a) Time for examining the patient
b) Time for discussion fixed time or changed as per the answers of the
candidate.
vii. How was the assessment done?
viii. Standard displayed by candidates in general in the clinical part of the
examination.(On a scale of 10 where 0 = Very poor and 10 = Outstanding)
ix. Nature of Discussion of case by the candidate – level of difficulty of questions
(On a scale of 10 where 0 = Very easy and 10 = very difficult)
x. Have all the candidates been uniformly examined and grades or marks awarded
as per merit of the question?
xi. Was the assessment done jointly by more than one Examiner?
xii. How may marks are allotted for clinical examination?
xiii. Are marks obtained in regular internal examinations added on to the marks
obtained in the final clinical examination?
xiv. What is the minimum percentage for passing the clinical part?
xv. Were any other marks from their course of training, or clinical works done in
the wards added to the marks obtained in the final clinical examination? If so,
to what extent(in percentage of marks)? Has it influenced the result at the final
examination?
xvi. Detailed Process of Viva-Voce conducted.
5. Arrangement of the Video Recording for the entire process of Theory and Practical
Examinations which includes clear visibility of the followings:
i. Any Document/ Identification of the Examination Hall assigned to the examiners
ii. Students Strength available in the Examination Hall (Attach Attendance Sheet)
iii. No. of Examiners i.e. (10 Examiners – 5 Internal & 5 External) alongwith their ID
Cards & Apron available in the Examination Hall (Attach Invigilator’s/Examiners
Roaster)
iv. Recording of the entire Question Paper for Theory which reflects Nature, Types &
Number of Questions ( LAQs/ SAQs/Structured Essay Types/MCQs and Recall/
Application/ Problem Based ) with their assigned marks
v. Number and Types of Practical Exercises/Questions assigned for the
Practical/Viva-Voce needs to be recorded verbal communications between
Examiner & Students or a copy of the question asked by the examiners may be
recorded.
vi. Students attempting the Question Papers as well as responding to the Viva-Voce
vii. Recording of the Assignments performed by the students while Practical/Clinical
Examinations
viii. For Practical/Viva-Voce Students Strength needs to be clearly visible under each
assigned examiner i.e. 30 students for examiner.
ix. Details of Mode of practical examination: In batches or otherwise and number of
students per day.
x. OSCE Examination Process and its Workstations
xi. Recording of the Internal Assessment Marks or enclose copy
xii. Recording of the Feedback Form of the Students/Examiners

The objective of the entire above mentioned process is to justify the standard of the medical
examination as there is no assessment through Virtual or Physical Mode going to be arranged
by the NMC. Hence, all the process needs to be properly documented and guidelines needs to
be disseminated to all the examiners/ HODs. You are requested to comply with the CBME
Guidelines as well as the Guidelines specified above and share the entire recording as well as
the SAF after the completion of the Examination to the ug.exam@nmc.org.in.
