1. Why did you conduct this study?

(focus on the problem at hand)

In a study provided by Dr. Baconguis in 2017, San Jose is known mainly by swine
and poultry industry however due to the occurrence of pests, diseases, and other
natural phenomenon, it threatens to wipe out the whole population of livestock raised.
We want to conduct this study in order for us to have a better understanding about how
the mortality rates affect the financial performance of livestock companies in San Jose.
We want to know whether operations are being interrupted mostly by this or it’s just a
minor reason that affects their financial performance. Moreover, we want to develop
strategies and interventions that support the resilience and sustainability of these
businesses.

2. What is the relevance of your study? (Talk about your target and how will
they be helped by this study)
This study was conducted in the hopes of helping the livestock business owners. We
strongly believe that this study had been able to provide insights about how mortality
rate of biological assets impacts the financial performance of piggery and poultry
businesses. Due to this, by understanding the relationship between the two, owners will
be able to make informed decisions and take measures to mitigate the negative effects,
resulting in improved financial performance. Consumers will also be benefitted by this
study because they’ll be able to gain deeper understanding regarding the impact of
mortality rate in the prices and availability of livestock products in the market. The
investors on the other hand, are also part of our beneficiaries because our study will
help them make informed decisions on where to invest their capital. Lastly, we believe
that our study can pave the way for policymakers to provide recommendations on
policies that can be implemented to support livestock businesses in managing the
mortality rate of biological assets and improving their financial performance.

3. What Data Gathering Procedure were done? (You prepared Questionnaires,

Did random sampling or purposive sampling – sabihin niyo din bakit random or
purposive ang ginawa niyo)

First we prepared questionnaires. Our questionnaire was composed of 2 parts. The

first part of the questionnaire pertains to the business profile of the respondents. It
included type of livestock offered, capitalization, years of operation, average monthly
income, and mortality rate. The second part, on the other hand, focused on the
assessment of the level of financial performance of livestock companies in terms of
gross profit margin, net profit margin, leverage, return on equity, return on assets,
operating cash flow, and seasonality. The questionnaire underwent reliability testing by
doing pilot testing. After 3 days we were able to gain 30 responses and our
questionnaire came out to be reliable. Since it passed the reliability test, we did the
actual survey personally and after 14 days we were able to get 220 responses. We also
did purposive sampling. Our study required specific requisites when it comes to
choosing our respondents. Since targeted respondents were livestock practitioners, we
carefully and intentionally selected members of the population who were best suited to
answer the research questions. Of course, we’ve chosen those who are proficient and
well-versed in livestock activities.

4. What is it that you are proposing from the result of your study? (Discuss
your output and why is your output important right now)
The output of our study is a business plan tailored to meet the needs of livestock
business owners. It includes Executive Summary, Business Description, Market
Analysis, and Financial Analysis. Since the results show that financial performance of
livestock companies was highly affected by the mortality rate, it is important to provide a
plan that will support the livestock business in handling the financial aspects of their
operations.

5. How is your title relevant to your findings? (Your findings must answer the
title of your research)

6. What is the basis of your recommendations? (This must be based on the

result of your study)

7. How did you validate your questionnaire?

8. Where did you get your items in your instrument?

9. What are the weaknesses of your study?

10. Do you think your output is enough to address the implications and or the
weakness of your study?

Research Gap

Presently, researches on livestock are mostly conducted based on statistical data of

mortality rates, tracking down the causes as to why it is fluctuating, and it’s in the
context of the whole economy itself. However, in the context of regional livestock
businesses, knowing the causes as to why mortality rates are fluctuating isn’t enough
for the livestock owners because that’s more on the scientific and biological side. That’s
why as researchers, we want to explore the financial side through the intervention of
this specific problem which is the fluctuating mortality rates of biological assets and see
if it directly or indirectly affects the financial performance of livestock businesses in San
Jose.
