1)The sylph is a reference to mythology.

Belinda is not just protected by a angelic being but by

unnumbered spirits too. And also sylph warns her in her dream that something bad will happen. Also the
sylphs protects her accessories. The scene in which Belinda gets prepared for a party is like arming
scene. Woman in her society should take care of their appearance. In the last canto (V)we see the
tribulations in Belinda's inner world. The writer has a desire to turn Belinda into a more aware and
sensitive woman against the happening in real life. And also Pope make fun of the high society.

2)

1.The atrocities of slavery; While discussing this theme we can discuss it in relation to the poem "The
little black boy". In this poem we saw a black child who is against slavery. It tells about the unfair
treatment given to the woman and the child. The poet criticize the bad behavior, treatment against the
children in a indirect way. His mother tells the child that God will let them free one day. And also we
discussed about the bad living conditions they deal with. They live in injustice.

2.The injustice of the ones in power; I think the poem "The Chimney Sweeper" can be a good example
for this theme. We discussed this poem in the both songs of innoncence and experience. In the poem,
the system and established church are being criticized. The mistreatment against the children as they
were objects should be stopped. By the songs of experience there is a hypocritical piety in the poem.
And also the mother of the child is dead and he is growing up with a bad father figure.
