PHASE 1
DESIGN BRIEF
My client was successful in integrating stands 71A and 71B and has the
attention to develop a conference center on stand 71 and increase revenue for
the bed and breakfast that presently occupies stand 71. Designing a conference
center with a single story brick construction is my responsibility.
As this projects primary architect my responsibility in this project is to provide
a design proposal for the newly proposed convention center as part of the
project. I’d have to do some study and come up with some creative ways to
make the property stand out. After conducting research, I intend on illustrating
two freehand sketched ideas and asses each one thoroughly. Once I’ve decided
on the final design, I’ll create a full floor plan, elevations, and a two-point
perspective view of the suggested design. My design method will meet all of the
mentioned requirements as well as all of the listed restrictions.

Specifications
 The structure must be able to accommodate no more than 65 delegates at
once.
 It must be a brick building with one story.
 Must accommodate those who are disabled.
 The roof must have a "IBR" roof sheet finish and must have a Dutch
gable design.
 Facia boards, gutters, and rainfall downpipes are required on Dutch roofs.
 A dominant component of the structure must be either an inner or an
exterior curving wall.
 The main entrance must face north and have a single glass and aluminium
swing door on either side of a rotating door.
 For the dropping off and picking up of delegates, there must be a covered
drive-through immediately outside and in front of the revolving door that
is large enough to fit two vehicles side by side.
 The Dutch gable roof design must be carried through to the roof covering
for the drive-through.
 The building's main entrance must lead into a sizable concourse.
 The concourse must have a built-in welcome desk close to the main
entrance because it will be used for plenary sessions, entertainment, and
dining.
 A kitchen located off the concourse is required. It will be utilized for
catering.
 The kitchen needs to contain a single sink, built in cabinets, enough
workspace for food preparation, room for a refrigerator, and a burner.
 The concourse must also have a built-in service station next to the kitchen
entrance.
 There must also be three similar sized conference rooms, leading off the
concourse.
 There must be two smaller conference spaces, each identical in size.
 A retractable wall divider that separates the two smaller rooms must be
placed so that it can be opened to create a single, larger room with space
for up to 20 delegates must be placed next to each other.
 Both an emergency exit door to the exterior of the building and a door
separating it from the concourse must be present in each of the rooms.
 There must be separate bathrooms for men and women that are accessible
from within the structure.
4
 Three wall-mounted urinals, two hand wash basins, two separate toilets,
and one male restroom are required.
 Three individual restrooms and three hand washing stations are required
in the female facility.
 For persons who are disabled, a separate bathroom with a toilet and a sink
is required.
 There must be sufficient electrical lighting throughout the building,
switched outlets in each room and space, and large windows to let in
ample natural light.
 The whole sewage and waste-water system of the building must be
connected to the manhole on the municipal sewerage line.
 There must be a nearby parking lot with 12 standard parking spots and
two places reserved exclusively for disabled individuals.

5
CONSTRAINTS
 The sizable concourse off the main entrance mustn’t be no less than 110
2
m
 The kitchen mustn’t be no less than 10m2
 The three similar sized conference rooms must not be greater than 36m2
 The two smaller conference spaces must not be greater than 24m2
 The entire building excluding the drive through must not exceed 320m2

Research
Small Conference Room
When you need to have a small group of people together at once, such as
during team meetings or brainstorming sessions, a small conference room
is the ideal location. These spaces are frequently utilized for important
occasions like business meetings, product launches, or training sessions.
It can be transformed into a boardroom by adding extra chairs, or into a
teaching space by adding whiteboard walls or projection screens.
Additionally, they're a terrific approach to guarantee confidentiality
during brief interactions with clients or customers. You should set up the
conference room properly to ensure that nobody feels uncomfortable or
distracted, whether you want to use it for anything little, like a one-on-
one meeting, or something much larger, like a monthly team meeting.

Dutch gable roofing

Dutch gables roofs resemble hip roofs in that they have four sloping sides at the
bottom. On top of them is a gable roof with two sloping sides that resembles a
triangle. These two methods working together has many benefits. Hip roofs, for
instance, are better at withstanding strong winds but have limited attic space due
to their design. More room is created by the top gable roof.
9
Covered drive through
The definition of a Porte cochere is a covered entrance to a home or other
building. Originally, Porte cocheres were intended to be covered places where
carriages or other wheeled vehicles could stop so that people could approach or
exit buildings without being exposed to the elements. The carriages could then
pass through once more.
10
Swing doors
A rotating door typically comprises of three or four doors that rotate around a
vertical axis inside of a cylindrical enclosure while hanging on a central shaft.
Revolving doors are energy-efficient because they operate as an airlock to stop
drafts and lessen the building's loss of heating or cooling. Revolving doors were
made to let a lot of people in and out while also relieving the tremendous
pressure brought on the air rushing through high-rise buildings (known as stack
effect pressure).
