The age of Enlightenment reached its

peak in the late eighteenth century. During

this period, Vienna continued to attract
artists and musicians from all over Europe,
among them are the two most remarkable
composers/musicians; Franz Joseph Haydn
(1732-1809), Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart
(1756-1791), and Ludwig Van Beethoven
(1770-1827).
Franz Joseph Haydn was twenty-four years older
than Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, both men experienced
the French Revolution and they also had many other
things in common. They were personal friends and
they both admired the works of each other. Both men
provided a model for the young Beethoven and many
other composers of their era. The word “classical”
became popular because of these composers and
became the adjective most often applied to any work of
the late eighteenth century.
The sound of the classical music is rich because
of the instruments they used in this era and the
instruments were; violin, viola, violin cello (now called
“cello”), double bass, flutes, oboes, clarinets, bassoon,
French horn, trumpet’s, timpani.
