(Enter ZYKE GAMA, a confident and resilient gay student, and
KAYLA, a bully.)
ZYKE: (Sits at his chair, reading a book, but notices VAUGHN
whispering to another classmate and pointing in his direction)
KAYLA: (Approaches Zyke with a smirk) Hey, Zyke, why are you
wearing make up? You shouldn’t be wearing a make up, it’s
ugly. It’s only for us girls.
ZYKE: (Looks up, maintaining composure) Is that any of your
business, KAYLA?
KAYLA: (Laughs) Well, I guess it is now. You know, it's just
not natural, right? It's disgusting.
ZYKE: (Stands up, facing KAYLA) What's disgusting is your
ignorance, KAYLA. This is my face, not yours.
KAYLA: (Mocking) Oh, look, Zyke’s defending his "rights." You
think you're so special, don't you? Well, I've got news for
you, nobody wants to hear about your "LGBTQ" in this class.
ZYKE: (Calming himself) KAYLA, it's not about being special.
It's about being treated with respect, just like anyone else.
KAYLA: (Aggressively) Respect? You think you deserve respect?
You're just a freak, ZYKE, and everyone knows it.
(Enter BEA, a compassionate classmate, witnessing the
confrontation.)
BEA: (Stepping in) Hey, KAYLA, that's enough! Can't you see
you're just being hurtful and ignorant?
KAYLA: (Defiant) Oh, look, the defender of the freak has
arrived. What's your problem, BEA? You think you can change
the world?
BEA: (Confidently) No, KAYLA, but I can stand up for what's
right. And what you're doing is wrong. ZYKE deserves the same
respect and acceptance as anyone else. Your words won't change
that.
KAYLA: (Frustrated) Fine, go ahead, be friends with him. But
don't expect me to pretend like any of this is normal.
BEA: (Resolute) It's not about normal or abnormal, KAYLA. It's
about embracing diversity and understanding that everyone
deserves kindness and respect, regardless of their sexual
orientation.
(Kayla snob and walked out)
ZYKE: Thank you for supporting me, BEA. I appreciate that.
BEA: No matter what happens, I am always here for you.
ALL: (BOW)
