Excessive screen time can have negative effects on children’s physical health.
Prolonged sedentary behavior associated with excessive screen use contributes to a
sedentary lifestyle and increases the risk of obesity, cardiovascular problems, and
musculoskeletal issues. By limiting screen time, children are encouraged to engage in
physical activities, promoting their physical fitness and overall health.
Excessive screen time also impacts children’s mental and emotional well-being.
Spending excessive time in front of screens can lead to sleep disturbances, reduced social
interaction, and increased anxiety and depression. By setting limits on screen time, children
have more opportunities to engage in face-to-face interactions, develop social skills, and
foster healthier emotional well-being.
Given these points, it is recommended that parents and caregivers establish clear

guidelines and limits on screen time for children. The American Academy of Pediatrics
suggests no more than one to two hours of screen time per day for children aged 2 to 5, and
consistent monitoring for older children.
Encourage alternative activities such as outdoor play, reading, arts and crafts, and
family bonding time. By prioritizing a healthy balance between screen

activities, we can support children’s overall well-being and healthy development.
