ACTIVITY

PROFESSION: DENTIST - One of the most significant duties of a dentist is to encourage proper dental
hygiene. This aids in avoiding issues with your mouth or other body components. In addition, a dentist
treats and diagnoses issues with the mouth, teeth, and gums. When performing dental operations,
dentists use a variety of sophisticated technology and equipment, including X-ray machines, lasers, drills,
brushes, scalpels, and other medical tools. Additionally, they put on safety glasses, masks, and gloves as
protective gear to stop the transmission of bacteria or germs.

Dentist: Good morning! How can I help you today?

Patient: Hi, I've been experiencing sharp pain in my lower front teeth whenever I eat something hot or
cold.

Dentist: I see. Thank you for letting me know. It's important to address tooth sensitivity. Let's start by
examining your teeth to check for any visible signs of enamel erosion or gum recession.

Patient: Alright, please go ahead. I've also noticed some bleeding when I floss.

Dentist: That's useful information. We'll check your gum health as well. I recommend taking X-rays to
get a more in-depth look at what might be going on beneath the surface.

Patient: Sounds good. What if I need a filling or something like that?

Dentist: If we find any cavities or damage, we can discuss appropriate treatments, such as fillings, to
restore your teeth. Additionally, I may recommend a desensitizing toothpaste to help with your
sensitivity.

Patient: Okay, I trust your judgment. Let's proceed with the examination and see what needs to be
done.

Dentist: Great, we'll start with the examination. I'll make sure to explain everything as we go along and
discuss any treatment options if necessary.

Patient: Thank you, I appreciate your help in addressing this issue.

Dentist: Thank you for your patience during the examination. Based on our assessment, it appears that
you have some enamel erosion on your lower front teeth, which is likely causing the sensitivity you've
been experiencing. We also noticed some mild gum inflammation, which might be contributing to the
bleeding while flossing.

Patient: I appreciate your thorough examination. What are the treatment options for the enamel
erosion?

Dentist: To address the enamel erosion, we recommend starting with a desensitizing toothpaste to help
alleviate the sensitivity. In addition, we'll provide some guidance on proper oral hygiene to prevent
further enamel loss. If the erosion is more severe or doesn't improve with these measures, we may
consider dental bonding to protect and strengthen the affected teeth.

Patient: That sounds manageable. And what about the gum inflammation?

Dentist: To address the gum inflammation, we'll recommend improving your daily oral hygiene routine,
including regular flossing and using an antiseptic mouthwash. If the inflammation persists, we may
suggest a professional dental cleaning to remove any plaque and tartar buildup.

Patient: I'm grateful for your recommendations. I'll follow your advice and make the necessary changes
to my oral care routine. Thank you for your guidance, Doctor.

Dentist: You're very welcome. I'm here to help you maintain your oral health. If you have any questions
or concerns along the way, don't hesitate to reach out. We'll schedule a follow-up appointment to
monitor your progress and adjust our approach as needed.

Patient: That sounds like a plan. I appreciate your expertise and care. See you at the follow-up
appointment.

Dentist: I look forward to seeing you then. Take care, and if you have any concerns in the meantime,
don't hesitate to contact us. Have a great day!

ANOTHER CONVERSATION

Dentist: Good morning! How can I assist you today?

Patient: Good morning. I've been experiencing issues with my teeth lately, and I think it might be time
for dentures.

Dentist: I appreciate you coming in to discuss this. Dentures can indeed be a great solution for missing
teeth or teeth that are causing you discomfort. Let's start by examining your current oral health to
determine the best course of action.

Patient: That sounds reasonable. I've lost quite a few teeth, and the remaining ones are not in great
shape.

Dentist: I see. During the examination, we'll assess the condition of your remaining teeth and evaluate
your gum health. We'll also discuss your specific needs and preferences for dentures, such as whether
you're interested in partial or full dentures.

Patient: I think I'd prefer full dentures. I want a complete set to make it easier to eat and speak.

Dentist: Full dentures can provide comprehensive functionality and aesthetics. We'll take impressions of
your mouth to ensure a proper fit and create a set of dentures that will be comfortable and functional
for you.

Patient: That sounds good. How long does the process usually take?
Dentist: The process typically involves a few appointments for impressions, fittings, and adjustments. It
can take a few weeks to a couple of months to have your dentures ready, depending on your specific
needs. We want to make sure they fit and function well for you.

Patient: I understand. I'm looking forward to having a complete set of dentures. It will make a big
difference in my daily life.

Dentist: I'm glad to hear that. We'll guide you through the process step by step and ensure you're
comfortable with your new dentures. We're here to help improve your oral health and overall well-
being.

Patient: Thank you for your understanding and support, Doctor. I appreciate it.

Dentist: You're very welcome. We're here to provide you with the best care possible. Let's get started
with the examination and move forward with the denture process.

Dentist: Thank you for your patience during the examination. Based on our assessment, it's clear that
you have a number of missing teeth and some remaining ones that are in less than ideal condition.
Given your preference for full dentures, we'll proceed with creating a customized set that suits your
needs.

Patient: I appreciate your thorough examination and your willingness to work with me on full dentures.
I've been struggling with my existing teeth for a while, and I believe this is the right choice for me.

Dentist: Absolutely, we want to ensure that you have a comfortable and functional solution that
enhances your quality of life. We'll start by taking impressions of your mouth, which will serve as the
foundation for creating your dentures. After that, we'll schedule a fitting appointment to make sure they
fit well and are comfortable for you.

Patient: Sounds like a plan. I'm prepared to be patient and make sure the dentures are just right. How
many appointments will be needed for this process?

Dentist: Typically, we'll need a few appointments for impressions, fittings, and any necessary
adjustments. The entire process can take a few weeks to a couple of months, depending on how well
the dentures fit and your comfort. We'll take the time needed to get it right for you.

Patient: I understand. I've waited this long; a little more time is a small price to pay for a comfortable set
of dentures. I'm grateful for your help with this.

Dentist: It's our pleasure to assist you. We're here to improve your oral health and overall well-being. If
you have any questions or concerns along the way, please don't hesitate to reach out. We'll be in touch
for your next appointment to proceed with the denture creation.

Patient: Thank you, Doctor. I appreciate your understanding and support. I look forward to the day
when I have my new dentures.

Dentist: We look forward to helping you achieve that. Until our next appointment, take care, and we'll
be in touch soon.
