TOPIC-1
Number:
A number is a numeral which represents a quantity and also used for counting,
measurement & labelling.
A complex number
geometrically represents a .(𝒙, 𝒚)
point on Complex plane or
Argand plane.
𝟎 𝒙(𝒓𝒆𝒂𝒍)
Rational Number:
𝑝 Numerator
A number of the form , 𝑞 ≠ 0 where 𝑝 and 𝑞 are integers. Fraction =
𝑞
Denominator

Is 4 a rational number ?
Irrational Number:
𝑝
A number which is not expressible as , 𝑞 ≠ 0 where 𝑝 and 𝑞 are integers.
𝑞
For example:
1.32495879...
2 , 3&
2 3 etc.

Division
7 x 8 = 56
Product
7 x 8 = 56
Factors
Factor:
Factors of a number are all those numbers which can exactly divide the given number.
For example: 1, 2 and 4 are the factors of 4.
Multiple:
Multiples of a number are those numbers which are exactly divisible by the given number.
For example: The multiples of 4 are 4, 8, 12, 16, 20, …

6. Find the prime factors of 1280 using tree diagram and also find the sum of
its composite factors.
DEFINITION
Example
Find the HCF of 24 and 30
Factors of 24: 1, 2, 3, 4, 6, 8, 12, 24
Factors of 30: 1, 2, 3, 5, 6, 10, 15, 30
So the HCF of 24 and 30 is: 6

Calculation of HCF and LCM by using Prime Factorization.
Problem 03: Find the HCF & LCM of the numbers 60 & 294.
Solution: Given numbers are 60 & 294
2 30 2 147
2 15 3 49
3 5 7 7
60 = 2 × 2 × 3 × 5 294 = 2 × 3 × 7 × 7
HCF/GCD = Common factors LCM = Common/Uncommon factors
60 = 2 × 2 × 3 × 5 294 = 2 × 3 × 7 × 7 60 = 2 × 2 × 3 × 5 294 = 2 × 3 × 7 × 7
60 294 60 294

Problem 05: Find the LCM and HCF of , and .
3 9 81
Calculation for Numerators Calculation for Denominators
We know that,
Product of the two numbers = LCM × HCF
Then,
77 𝑥 = 693 × 11
𝑥 = 99
Solution: Because the two numbers are in the ratio 15 ∶ 11, the numbers can be
assumed as 15𝑥 and 11𝑥.
Then,
𝑥 = 13
15𝑥 = 15 × 13 = 195
11𝑥 = 11 × 13 = 143
