6. Why athletes eat food rich in carbohydrates one day before the race.
Athletes rely on high carbohydrate diets a day before a race because it is the body’s main source of
energy. Athletes therefore, eat carbohydrates to allow for full replenishment of glycogen stores in order to
have enough energy during running. It also helps to enhance endurance and retards fatigue during
prolonged physical activities.
