Geotechnical Engineering Training Posters

The YGP group is inviting fellow members to help create educational posters summarizing common geotechnical engineering calculations. They need input on posters covering shallow foundation design, deep foundation design, settlement, and liquefaction. The posters should provide an analysis process that can fit on a single page and reference industry standards. A minimum time commitment of 16 hours is recommended to review drafts with a senior member over 4-6 weeks. Participating is a way to gain familiarity with frequent topics and network within the organization.

Geotechnical Engineering – Training Posters

The YGP group extending an invitation to fellow YGP’s to assist in the production of
Geotechnical Engineering – Basics Posters. The idea of these posters is to provide a
summary of how we typically perform 80% of the most common Geotechnical engineering
calculations.

The following posters are where we need your input/ expertise:

1. Shallow Foundation Design
2. Deep Foundation Design
3. Settlement
4. Liquefaction/Lateral Spread

The rules of the production of the posters are as follows:

• All information should be able to fit on a single A3 poster
• It should follow an analysis process (e.g. set up a ground model, perform correlation
checks to confirm parameters, run analysis, check against industry standards)
• It should reference industry-recognised methods of analysis/codes and standards.

What these posters are not:

• Going into extreme detail on specialty cases
• A ‘be-all’ for all applications of each topic
• A manual for ‘must dos’ nor a ‘specification/code’

The time commitment is as much as you would like, but we recommend at a minimum to
commit to at least 16 hours total (including a review updates with a Senior NZGS Member).
The targeted draft output in timeline is 4-6 weeks from commencement for each poster.

This process is a great way to ensure you are familiar with a topic we commonly work with
and establishes a networking opportunity within NZGS.
