VisionDatabase Edition (NAS Output) 1. Connecting to an NAS over FTP

1. Connecting to an NAS over FTP

This document has been created on the assumption that it will be used to check connections
with the basic configuration.
Until a connection is successfully established, configure the settings according to this document.
Thereafter, change the settings as necessary.

1.1 Connecting Devices

* Caution
This manual has been created under the assumption that, among the system
configurations that can be used with VisionDatabase,
the XG-X2000 will be connected to an NAS (over Ethernet).
For details on connecting directly to a PC (over Ethernet or USB), see
the CA-H1DB User's Manual.

1.1.1 Preparing the NAS to Use

Recommended NAS (These are not devices that KEYENCE
guarantees the operation of.)

We recommend that you use a "TeraStation Series" NAS made by Buffalo Inc.
It is also possible to connect to a "LinkStation Series" NAS, but these devices have been designed
for use in the home. "TeraStation Series" devices have been designed for corporate use and are
highly durable.

As of the time of writing in August 2016, KEYENCE has checked the operation of the models
shown below.

2 TB product
TS3200D0202/TS3200DN0202
4 TB product
TS3200D0402/TS3200DN0402
8 TB product
TS5200DN0802

Even with the TeraStation Series, consider details such as data protection by way of periodic
backups or similar operations.

The explanations given in this manual are for the case in which the XG-X2000 is connected to
a TS3200D Series device.
Note that the configurations of the setup screens may differ depending on the model.

1.1.2 Wiring the XG-X2000, the NAS, and the PC

To give priority to the checking of the connection, disconnect all devices other than the NAS and
the PC from the hub before establishing the connection. To connect other devices, first configure
the settings as described in this document, successfully establish the connection, set the IP address
to an appropriate value, and then connect the other devices.

1.1.4 Adding VisionDatabase Functions to the XG-X2000

To use the VisionDatabase output function with the XG-X2000, you have to add this function to
the XG-X2000. Use one of the following methods to add the function.

When You Have Purchased VisionDatabase (CA-H1DB, CA-AD1)

(1) With the XG-X2000 turned off, insert the add-on SD card for function addition (CA-AD1)
into the SD2 slot.

(2) When you start the XG-X2000, a message regarding the function addition is displayed.
Click "OK".

(3) When the completion message is displayed, the function addition is complete.
Restart the XG-X2000.

VisionDatabase Edition (NAS Output) 1. Connecting to an NAS over FTP

When the FTP connection fails

As shown below, an error dialog box with the message "Failed to connect to FTP server." is
displayed. To establish an FTP connection correctly, check the details in "1.1 Connecting Devices"
again. When checking these details, use the exact values from the setting examples in this
document for items such as the IP address, subnet mask, user ID, password, and output
destination folder.

(7) After you have confirmed that the FTP connection has been established successfully in step (6),
specify the path to the output destination folder on the NAS.

When accessing the "share" folder selected in step (14) of

"1.1.3 Configuring NAS Settings," you have to specify the path name as
"mnt/array1/share," "/disk1/share," or something similar according to the FTP
specifications of the NAS made by Buffalo Inc.
The path to specify varies depending on factors such as the NAS model and
the RAID settings. For details, see the NAS instruction manual.

VisionDatabase Edition (NAS Output) 2. Outputting and Checking Data

2. Outputting and Checking Data

This chapter explains how to use VisionDatabase to check from a PC the data output from
the XG-X2000 to an NAS. Before configuring the settings shown below, connect the XG-X2000,
an NAS, and a PC over FTP according to the procedure in "1. Connecting to an NAS over FTP."

2.1 Outputting Data

2.1.1 Configuring XG-X2000 Settings
This section explains how to output various types of data (such as inspection results and captured
images) to VisionDatabase.

(1)At the top of the setup mode screen, click "Options," and then click
"VisionDatabase Output Settings."

(2) Select the "Enable" check box, and then select "FTP" for "Device."

KEYENCE Corporation, Vision System Division http://www.keyence.com/xgxus

18
VisionDatabase Edition (NAS Output) 2. Outputting and Checking Data

(3) Click "Select" next to "Output Items" under "Data Output."

(4) The list of the data to output to VisionDatabase appears.

Click "Add," add the appropriate data to output to the NAS, and then click "OK."
(Here, configure the settings to output "%PrcCount," which is the measurement count.)

VisionDatabase Edition (NAS Output) 2. Outputting and Checking Data

(5) Under "Image Output," select the "Enable" check box, select "None" for "Reference,"
select the "Output Camera Image" check box, select "All" for "Select Image," and then
click "OK."

(6) Click "Go to Run Mode" at the top of the setup mode screen to switch to run mode.

KEYENCE Corporation, Vision System Division http://www.keyence.com/xgxus

20
VisionDatabase Edition (NAS Output) 2. Outputting and Checking Data

(7) When a screen like the one shown below is displayed, the switch to run mode is complete.
When you execute an inspection, the VisionDatabase data is output to the NAS.
If an error occurs, check the details in "1.1 Connecting Devices" again.

If you use an NAS that does not support the "APPE" command,
which is an FTP function, it may not be possible to correctly output the data.
(Example: "LAN DISK H Series" devices made by I-O DATA DEVICE, INC.)
Use one of the recommended NAS devices listed under "1.1.1 Preparing
the NAS to Use." Regarding the support of the "APPE" command by other
NAS devices, contact the manufacturer of the NAS that you are using.

2.2 Checking Data

2.2.1 Configuring VisionDatabase Settings
This section explains how to use VisionDatabase on a PC to check the data output from
the XG-X2000 to an NAS.

(1) Start VisionDatabase on the PC, and then click "Add / Delete Database," to open
the "Database Management" window.

(2) Click "Register Manually" to open the window for specifying the database file.

KEYENCE Corporation, Vision System Division http://www.keyence.com/xgxus

22
VisionDatabase Edition (NAS Output) 2. Outputting and Checking Data

(3) Open the folder on the NAS in which the database is saved, and then open the file
"VisionDatabase.idbx."

If you configure the settings as shown in "1.1 Connecting Devices,"

the folder is created in "¥¥192.168.0.30¥share¥VisionDB" according to
the controller model of the XG-X2000, so the file "VisionDatabase.idbx"
output by the XG-X2000 is saved in this folder.

If you cannot access the NAS from the PC, perform the following operations.

• Stop the PC's firewall function and security software when, and only when, you are
configuring the settings.

• Connect the PC and the NAS directly in a 1 to 1 configuration.

• If the PC is equipped with multiple network adapters (including adapters such as

wireless LAN adapters), use Device Manager on the PC to disable all the network
adapters other than the one that you will use here.

(4) Check that the database has been added to the list, and then click "OK."

KEYENCE Corporation, Vision System Division http://www.keyence.com/xgxus

23
VisionDatabase Edition (NAS Output) 2. Outputting and Checking Data

(5) You can now view the database that the XG-X2000 output to the NAS.

For more detailed ways of configuring and using VisionDatabase,

see the CA-H1DB User's Manual.
