Peritonitis

An acute inflammatory process in the peritoneum and abdominal membrane is called

peritonitis. The disease disrupts the normal functioning of all vital systems of the human
body. With proper and timely surgical treatment, some forms of this disease are
completely treatable. Peritonitis is a disease that requires urgent surgical intervention.

Causes of peritonitis
In the human body, peritonitis occurs when a viral or infectious pathogen enters the
abdominal cavity. The peritoneum does not have local protective properties. Therefore,
the process of inflammation progresses rapidly, provoking the active production of
toxins.
Intracavitary factor is another cause of peritonitis. In the case of intestinal obstruction, the
intestine is clogged with fecal matter and stretches from this. In this case, the peritoneum
is strongly compressed, which causes its inflammation.

Symptoms of peritonitis
At the initial stage of the disease, abdominal pain appears. At first, the pain is clearly
localized at the source of the inflammatory process and can radiate to the area above the
collarbone, shoulder. This occurs due to irritation with purulent masses of nerve endings
in the diaphragm. After a while, the pain spreads throughout the abdomen, losing its
exact location. Painful sensations become permanent.
The disease peritonitis is manifested by nausea and vomiting with gastric contents. At the
initial stages of the development of the disease, this process proceeds reflexively. In later
stages, the cause of vomiting is intestinal paresis, accompanied by the removal of bile and
intestinal contents with vomit.
Even in the early stages of peritonitis development, the patient's appearance is
characteristic: pale skin, suffering facial expression, cold sweat, loss of strength
(adynamia), bluish skin color (acrocyanosis). In this case, the patient is forced to take
certain poses that relieve pain - these are mainly lying on his back with his legs tucked up
or on his side. The body temperature rises, the heart rate increases, and breathing
becomes shallow.

With the progression of the disease the patient's health condition

worsens very much:
Confusion. Pointed facial features. Dryness of the oral mucosa and tongue. Usually, the
tongue is covered with a dark coating. Bloating, which when felt almost does not provoke
pain.
