Environmental

Pollution
Contamination of the physical and biological components
of the earth/atmosphere system to such an extent that
normal environmental processes are adversely affected.
One of the biggest threats to life.
Affects the air we breathe, the water we drink, and the
ecosystems we depend on.
Human, animal, and plant populations will break down as
they will not be able to cope with a drastically changing
environment.
TYPES OF POLLUTION:
1. Air pollution
2. Water pollution
3. Soil pollution
4. Noise pollution
5. Thermal pollution
6. Nuclear pollution
AIR POLLUTION
The presence of harmful substances in the air that we
breathe can have adverse effects
Can also be caused by natural sources such as
wildfires and volcanic eruptions
The majority of air pollution is caused by human
activities.
Factories and power plants can emit large amounts of
pollutants into the air, including particulate matter,
sulfur dioxide, etc
Transportation, including cars, trucks, and airplanes,
also contributes to air pollution
Can be severe and can include respiratory problems,
heart disease, stroke, and lung cancer.
WATER POLLUTION - URBAN

Contamination of water bodies such as rivers, lakes,

and groundwater that are located in or near urban
areas, is primarily caused by human activities.
Industrial and commercial activities, sewage treatment
plants, stormwater runoff, and household waste
Cause the death of aquatic life, harm human health,
and reduce the availability of safe drinking water.
WATER POLLUTION - RURAL

Caused by agricultural practices, animal husbandry,

and other land use activities associated with rural
areas.
runoff from agricultural lands where chemicals such as
fertilizers, herbicides, and pesticides are applied.
Can be severe and can result in the loss of aquatic
life, contamination of drinking water, and harm to
human health.
WATER POLLUTION - MARINE
Contamination of oceans, seas, and other bodies of
water that are connected to them, such as estuaries
and coastal waters.
primarily caused by human activities, including
industrial activities, oil spills, sewage disposal, and
littering.
Industrial activities, such as oil drilling, manufacturing,
and shipping, often result in the discharge of
chemicals, heavy metals, and other pollutants
impacts of marine water pollution can be severe and
long-lasting.
It can result in the destruction of marine ecosystems,
harm human health, and negatively affect industries
such as fishing and tourism that depend on the health
of marine ecosystems.
SOIL POLLUTION
Contamination of soil with harmful substances can
have adverse effects on plant and animal life, as well
as human health.
Caused by a variety of human activities, including
industrial activities, agriculture, and waste disposal.
Impacts of soil pollution on plant and animal life can
be severe and can include reduced biodiversity,
decreased crop yields, and damage to ecosystems.
Soil pollution can also pose risks to human health,
such as an increased risk of cancer, respiratory
problems, and neurological disorders.
NOISE POLLUTION

Excessive or unwanted sound that can have negative

effects on human health and well-being.
Caused by a variety of sources, including
transportation, industrial activities, construction, and
recreational activities.
Hearing loss, tinnitus, stress, sleep disturbance, and
cardiovascular disease
THERMAL POLLUTION

Increasing the temperature of a natural body of water,

such as a river, lake, or ocean, due to human activities.
Caused by a variety of human activities, including
power generation, industrial activities, and
urbanization.
Impact on aquatic life can be severe and can include
reduced oxygen levels, changes in the ecosystem, and
decreased biodiversity.
NUCLEAR POLLUTION

Contamination of the environment with radioactive

materials that are produced by nuclear reactions.
Can have severe and long-lasting effects on human
health and the environment.
Impact on human health can be severe and include an
increased risk of cancer, genetic damage, and birth
defects.
SOLUTIONS
Reduce energy consumption
Use environmentally friendly products
Properly disposing of hazardous waste
Reduce water usage
Promote sustainable transportation
Practice sustainable agriculture
Adopt green technologies
Promote 3R
Conducting regular maintenance and inspections
Bringing the awareness
CONCLUSION
Global issue that requires immediate attention and action.
Air pollution to water contamination and hazardous waste disposal, our ecosystems and human
health are at risk.
Individuals, organizations, and governments must work together to reduce pollution through
sustainable practices and policies.
Prioritize the protection of our natural resources and biodiversity for the well-being of current and
future generations.
Responsibility to act now to mitigate the effects of pollution and preserve the health of our
planet.
