Du bist wie eine Blume
Heinrich Heine Robert Schumann
(1797-1856) (1810-1856)
Original key: A-flat major. This song is one of the earliest compositions to be found in Schumann's :Myrten
IMyrtes) collection, a gilt to Clara Wieck in honor of their marriage on September 12, 1840. I was probably
composed in 1839 and was published with the rest of the collection in 1810 by Kistner as Op. 25, No. 24. The
poet Heine explored the use of similar vowel sounds anc! soft intial consonants in his verse, which Schumann,
sculpted into gentle, caressing music. Heine was a poet viewed by many as second only to Goethe in importance
He was politically outspoken, an admirer of Napoleon, and lived his later life in Paris
