This song is one of the earliest compositions to be found in Schumann's :Myrten IMyrtes) collection, a gilt to Clara Wieck in honor of their marriage on September 12, 1840. I was probably composed in 1839 and was published with the rest of the collection in 1810 by Kistner as Op. 25, No. 24. The poet Heine explored the use of similar vowel sounds anc! soft intial consonants in his verse, which Schumann, sculpted into gentle, caressing music.
