WHAT IS LINGUISTIC CHAUVINISM?

Linguistic chauvinism is the belief

that one's own language is
superior to others, and the
tendency to judge other languages
and cultures based on one's own
linguistic and cultural
background.

HOW IT AFFECT PEOPLE?

Linguistic chauvinism can have various
negative effects on individuals and
communities:
1. Discrimination and Exclusion:
Linguistic chauvinism can lead to
the marginalization and exclusion
of individuals or communities who
speak languages deemed inferior.
This can result in limited access to
resources, opportunities, and
social participation.
2. Language Suppression: Linguistic
chauvinism can contribute to the
suppression or devaluation of
certain languages, leading to
language loss and the erosion of
cultural identities.
Stereotyping and Prejudice:
Linguistic chauvinism often
involves stereotypes and
prejudices against speakers of
non-dominant languages.
Communication Barriers: When
linguistic chauvinism dismisses or
devalues languages other than
one's own, it hinders effective
communication and

understanding among diverse

groups.
WHY LINGUISTIC CHAUVINISM IS IMPORTANT
IN PERSONAL LIFE ?

Linguistic chauvinvism is important

because one must not forget own
language no matter what. forgetting
own language means forgetting own
home land. we can learn different
language as we want but we must take
pride on our own language . if we
cannot learn own mother tongue ,the
very language we used to communicate
with our own people , our parents ,
friends , strated learning new things ....
how will own master another
language?
my own poit of view for linguistic
chauvinism ;-
linguistic chauvinism is good as well as
bad. pride on own language is good thing
. from what i observe that “ nowadays
people are feeling shame on using own
language.. they are trying to use
western language . my mother tongue is
odia ..from childhood i have called my
mom (maa/bou) but my younger siblings
are calling (mama/mommy) etc. why is
there a change in our own language
when calling out our motheR? IS THIS
THE NEARING END OF OUR CULTURE AND OUR
LANGUAGE? CAN WE DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT?

I THINK THAT ,THIS CAN only

possible from school where everyone
starts learning . learning variety of
language is also needed along with ,
there should be a strong force on doing
better in our language
language diversity in my state odishat
