The Giver Essays

Writing an essay on "The Giver" can be both challenging and rewarding. On one hand, the novel
presents a rich and thought-provoking narrative that delves into complex themes such as memory,
freedom, and the consequences of a utopian society. On the other hand, the depth of these themes
requires careful analysis and interpretation, making it essential to explore the nuances of the text.

Crafting a compelling essay involves not only summarizing the plot and characters but also delving
into the underlying messages and symbolism. The task becomes more demanding as one strives to
connect these elements to broader social, philosophical, or ethical issues. Analyzing Lois Lowry's
intricate narrative and effectively conveying the profound ideas it encompasses can pose a significant
challenge.

Moreover, striking the right balance between personal interpretation and scholarly analysis is crucial.
It's essential to present original insights while also grounding arguments in textual evidence and
literary theory. Navigating this delicate equilibrium requires a deep understanding of the novel and
the ability to articulate one's thoughts coherently.

In addition to the literary aspects, addressing the essay prompt and meeting specific guidelines
further complicates the process. Organizing thoughts, structuring the essay, and ensuring clarity of
expression are essential components of the writing journey.

Despite these challenges, the process of writing about "The Giver" offers an opportunity for personal
growth and intellectual exploration. It encourages critical thinking and the development of strong
analytical skills. While the difficulty level may be high, the satisfaction of crafting a well-reasoned
and insightful essay is undoubtedly worth the effort.

Harold Henthorn Pushes Wife From Cliff Analysis
In November of 2012, Harold Henthorn was charged with first degree murder after his
wife, Toni, tumbled face first to her death off a mountain cliff. Inquisitr covered this news
story in an article entitled Harold Henthorn Pushes Wife from Cliff? Sinister and
Gruesome Details Emerge. By analyzing the content, format, and context of the article, it
becomes clear how Inquisitr conveys their own message and intends for the crime to be
represented in a particular, calculated way. First, while every news article has content, the
important factor in the reporting of this information is the perspective that the source
maintains in telling the story. In this story, Inquisitr s angle relies on the myth of a
villainous spouse with ulterior motives... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The context of production and the context of consumption are the two dimensions that
are relevant to the reason the message is being communicated. The fact that the only
information about the writer of the article is a first name at the bottom of the page
signifies that who wrote the article is not significant, but who owns it may be. Inquisitr,
the media outlet producing the representation, is a news website whose goal is to
publish the latest trending news and to ensure that readers never miss the internet s
hottest stories. According to the available audience demographics, the most popular
section that readers browse is the celebrity and entertainment section and the site s target
audience is women, people with some college education, and people who work from
home. Evidently, Inquisitr is built and branded as a site for the every day internet user.
As a result, substantial, quality news is not the priority, but rather quick and compelling
articles that have the potential to go viral. The story of Harold Henthorn and the death of
his wife then is not written as the tragedy that it is, or even as a legal recount of the case,
but as a brief, flashy murder mystery story that intrigues and engrosses the reader.
Production and consumption of a representation, therefore, are not independent, but
tightly linked in a way that creates the general

Symbolism In The Lost Thing By Shaun Tan
Within Shaun Tan s picture books The Red Tree and The Lost Thing , surrealism is
utilised to deliver the themes of hope and rejection. Visual techniques and extended
metaphors aid in the transmission of these themes. Symbolism, colour, positioning,
drawing styles, and cultural referencing are techniques used to convey the messages. Tan
utilises these techniques to help the reader realise, and interpret, for themselves the
overarching messages within in the picture books.
Throughout Shaun Tans surrealist picture books The Lost Thing and The Red Tree the
overarching theme of hope is explored. Both books implement symbolism and
positioning to reveal the extended metaphor of hope. In The Red Tree Tan uses the
symbol of a red leaf on every page to represent hope, similarly, The Lost Thing has the
symbol of a white, curvy arrow on almost every page to also symbolise hope. Tan uses
the red leaf as a metaphor to the reader that hope is always present, even if sometimes the
person cannot see it at that moment. This is represented in the nobody understands
picture where the little girl is seen in a glass bottle with a diving helmet on, the red leaf
is positioned behind her and she cannot see it; Tan also makes the leaf a darker tone so it
blends in with the background, further emphasising the notion of hope not always being
noticeable. Correspondingly, in The Lost Thing the symbol of the white arrow is found
on almost every page, however, the protagonists do not

World War I was first met by a public surge of patriotism, but as time passed, the mood
quickly turned sour. The Russian army was heavily outclassed by the German army.
Their supply and medical systems were very primitive, communications weak,
inexperienced leadership, and aviation far inferior to that of the Germans. After the
Brusilov offensive wherein the Russians tried to attack instead of just defending,
resulted in mass bloodshed with over 2 million men killed and 350,000 people
captured, support for the war was shattered within the ranks of the army. The war had
lasted for a long period of time causing more shortages [see appendix iii] and inflation
in food prices. However, Nicholas would not end the war no matter how many people
protested against it. In the winter months of 1917, inflation advanced at such a fast
pace [see appendix i] that the working population s wages were unable to keep up.
Then on February 8, International Women s Day, demonstrations by female workers
in the Vyborg district had brought a large crowd. By the next day, the group had
swelled to 200,000 people and massive riots ensued. The army was called in to deal
with the situation, but they were sick of the war and shot their officers and joined the
revolt. This was considered to be a spontaneous and leaderless revolution because the
Bolsheviks were mostly exiled from
