Suffering In Victor Hugo s Les Misérables
In the words of Nora Elsworth, Those who possess goodness are destined to suffer. This
quotation can be interpreted as that it is certain that those who are considered good, will
always suffer as a result. It could be argued, however, that this concept is only true to a
certain extent. One may suffer greatly because of their innate goodness, but they can also
rise above their sufferance and find happiness. Sufferingis not the end to one s destiny, it
is merely a bump in the road. This concept rings true in the classic French novel Les
Misérables, written by Victor Hugo. The characters of Jean Valjean and Fantine both
exhibit sufferance, yet they overcome it in their own ways. Rising above sufferance is
also present in the articles... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Jean Valjean takes in Cosette, the orphaned child of Fantine, a prostitute. As Hugo
explains, When he saw Cosette, when he had taken her, carried her away, and rescued
her, he felt his heart moved (108). Without Valjean s intervention, Cosette would be
doomed to a life of neglect with the Thenardier s, or worst be outcast to a life of
poverty on the street. Liz Murray has taken her terrible experiences, and used them to
help others like she was. She creates a program to provide counseling and assistance to
youth at Covenant House, a nonprofit that provides shelter for impoverished and
homeless youth. As the poem Invictus says, Liz Murray in the fell clutch of circumstance
has not winced nor cried aloud (Henley 5 6). Rather than complaining her unfortunate
childhood, Murray s spirit has triumphed and she has found a meaningful way to use her
suffering for growth. Both Valjean and Murray become forces for good in the world,
rather than succumbing to feeling sorry for themselves, they triumph over their
Essay On Smitten Ice Cream
I doubt that you have taste buds. The rather offensive comment was what my friend
heard from a stranger who overheard our conversation at Patricia s Green in Hayes
Valley. My friend just admitted that he was not a huge fan of Smitten Ice Cream, a local
nitrogen ice cream shop located in San Francisco. It was almost unacceptable not to be in
love with such rich and creamy thing nitrogen icecream often referred as revolution of
ice cream among San Franciscans. I loved living in Hayes Valley because it had
Smitten. On the weekends, I would go to the ice cream place converted from an old
shipping container. What was special about Smitten is that it has a viewing area for
customers to enjoy watching their orders being prepared with fog oozing out like in a
chemistry experiment. The secret of Smitten lies with that fog of liquid nitrogen. Smitten
always had four flavors: Classic Vanilla and TCHO chocolate were the fixed. The other
two depended on the ingredients they had that day. Besides Brown sugar with cinnamon
shortcake , which... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Ice cream is rather a complex mixture of different particles interacting with each other
to create unique properties of the food. The first component ice crystals are formed
when water in ice cream base freezes. The key to make smooth ice cream is to prevent
ice crystals to form in big size during freezing. Rapid freezing and constant churning of
base lead water contents to form many minute sized crystals. The texture of ice cream
with many smaller ice crystals is better than that with fewer big crystals. Also, by
reducing the amount of water in the base that will be formed into ice crystals by
increasing other ingredients such as milk fat, sugar and other solids can be a way.
However, while normally water takes up 60% of ice cream base, more than 47% of the
total solids will give heavy and chewy

My Favorite Part About The Lake
Beep! Beep! We hop out of the car, set up our tent, and unpacked everything. My
family and I are in Vermont camping with our cousins and their friends. Dad and mom
are starting dinner while Rachel, Grant, Evan, and I are unpacking all of our things.
We have been coming to Emerald Lake for three years now. My cousins have been
doing it for longer. Our campsite is at the top of a mountain and on the bottom of the
mountain, there is a path that leads to a lake. My favorite part about the lake is there is
an island in the middle, and on the island there is a rope swing. I love going off it, but it
always takes me a while to get enough courage to jump off. Almost everyone jumps off.
Even the youngest children who are eight years old. Mom calls... Show more content on

We continue to play the game.
The quiet time at the campsite is ten o clock, and it is now ten o clock. The parents
come back over and tell us we need to head back to our own campsites. My mom,
sister, and I will go and brush our teeth in the bathroom first, while the boys stay at the
campsite. In the bathroom, we see all the other girls getting ready to go to bed. There
are only two sinks in the bathroom, so we have to share the sink with everyone. The
bathroom smells like the outside mixed with a gross bathroom smell. Once we finished
brushing our teeth, we head on back to the campsite, and then the boys go to the
bathroom.
Rachel and I are sharing our own little tent by ouself, and Mom, Dad, Grant, and Evan
share a big tent. Rachel and I get changed, then try to get comfortable on top of our
mattresses. Whenever we go camping, Rachel calls the warmest and comfiest sleeping
bag, and everyone else just gets a normal sleeping bag. Inside the tent, the temperature
is not that cold, so I only wear my feet pajamas without a sweatshirt. Rachel and I say
good night and try and fall asleep. I twist, I turn, I squirm, but I do not get
comfortable. Everything was quiet until, bursts of laughter uproared from silence.
What is wrong with them!? I ask myself. Rachel, I think those people are drunk... I tell
Rachel. No ding dong, I m pretty sure that was Jacob and Jillian. Oops! Jacob and Jillian
are Uncle Rob s friends who came with us.I felt my face
Why Is Scientology Unethical
Scientology is a form of religious beliefs and practices created in 1954 by Ron Hubbard.
It was designed as a program called Dianetics. The organization quickly entered
bankruptcy and Hubbard lost the rights to Dianetics. He then recharacterized the subject
as a religion and renamed it Scientology, retaining almost everything. Within some time,
he managed to regain the rights to Dianetics and kept both issues under the Church of
Scientology. Scientology is a religious based on the seeking of self knowledge and
spiritual fulfillment through graded courses for which you need to study and train. They
believe that people are immortal spiritual beings that are in a physical body. Scientology
believes that Man is good, that he is seeking to survive, (and) that his survival depends on
himself and his attainment of brotherhood with the universe, as stated in the Church of
Scientology. But the... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
But, they are notorious for keeping themselves and the public in the dark about any bad
news by their belief of how important Scientology is. Tarnishing Scientology s image and
hurting it the worst crime a member could be accused of in the religion. Real problems
and issues caused by the church are over looked by members because of their firm belief
in the leader. Scientology slanders its critics to the point that it misleads its members.
Any complaints, no matter how accurate, are seen as attacks in the eyes of their
members. Scientology as a religion purports to be centered around the fundamental
principles of science. However, it has historically resisted any actual scientific study.
Their scientific beliefs devolved into if the leader says it, it must be true and that is well
documented throughout the churches history. As such, Scientology is stagnant and
fundamentally flawed, because it has no room for
