With more than 5 million units produced since its introduction as a 2004 model and serving as Mazda’s most widely
sold model, Mazda3 continues to be a trailblazer in the compact car segment. It stands as one of Mazda’s core models
that leads the way toward the evolution and advancement of the Mazda brand. Already known for its impressive design
and excellent handling, the changes for the 2017 Mazda3 deliver a more premium appearance and function that further
differentiate it from its competitors.

WHAT’S NEW?
Mazda3 is completely repackaged for 2017, providing a
stronger value at all price points while adding refinement,
elevating design and increasing usable performance.
Here’s an at-a-glance list of what’s new and different about
the 2017 Mazda3 (for a full list of changes, please see the
spec deck on page 13):
- Repackaged trim levels, eliminating “i” and “s” engine
designations and providing more content at each price

ENHANCED PERFORMANCE
As the first in a series of technologies that improve the
overall driving experience, G-Vectoring Control (GVC)
comes standard across all trim levels of the 2017 Mazda3
at no extra cost to the customer. The all-new, Mazda-
exclusive technology uses engine timing to control
chassis dynamics, leading to smoother, more accurate
steering inputs resulting in greater confidence and
control for the driver.
The introduction of GVC “INCREASED DRIVER
is an example of Mazda’s

driving experience, one OF MIND”
that puts the driver as
the priority in the design
and development stages. Eight years in the making, this
industry-first technology exemplifies Mazda’s human-
centered design philosophy where careful thought and
consideration was given to how to develop a technology
that would help realize smooth, predictable and efficient
movement. While it will largely go unnoticed to the
vehicle occupants, GVC will undoubtedly make any driver
a better one. The car goes where you want it to go,
resulting in increased driver confidence and enhanced
peace of mind.
Purely a software control system, GVC adds no weight to
Mazda3, implementing throttle input and steering angle
sensors, among other features, to decide when to reduce

torque in an instant’s notice. When the technology was being developed, initial thoughts were to have the vehicle use
the brakes, but this method was deemed too slow to respond and unnatural-feeling to the driver and passengers.
Engineers figured out that the subtle amount of “braking” needed to create a greater sense of stability—about eight
pounds of pressure to the front end of the vehicle—could be had by reducing ignition spark, thereby effectively engine
braking without the driver and passengers ever noticing. The result increases Mazda3’s front-tire contact patches,
which aids in steering stability and turn-in when using the throttle.

Ironically, the worse the road conditions are, the better the technology works, regardless of the driver’s skill level. So
whether it’s driving in a straight line at high speeds, traversing winding roads or traveling at everyday low speeds, GVC
provides a stronger sense of unity between driver and car, and provides passengers with a greater sense of security.

Also for the 2017 model year, Mazda has done away with the previous generation designations of “i” and “s.” The Sport
and Touring models will now be equipped with the 2.0-liter engine and the 2.5-liter engine will now come equipped on
the Touring 2.5 and Grand Touring models.

The base engine 2.0-liter, four-cylinder SKYACTIV-G engine makes a peak 155 horsepower at 6,000 rpm and 150 lb-ft
of torque at 4,000 rpm. When paired with the available SKYACTIV-DRIVE six-speed automatic, Mazda3 can achieve
an EPA-estimated fuel economy up to 28 mpg city/37 mpg highway/32 mpg combined. Models equipped with the
2.0-liter engine and automatic transmission come with a Sport Mode switch as standard, which uses a more aggressive
transmission mapping for spirited driving. Previously, this was only available in 2.5-liter vehicles.

The 2.5-liter, four-cylinder SKYACTIV-G engine produces 184 horsepower at 5,700 rpm and 185 lb-ft of torque at
3,250 rpm. When paired with the available SKYACTIV-DRIVE six-speed automatic with i-ELOOP, it can achieve an
EPA-estimated fuel economy up to 28 mpg city/37 mpg highway/31 mpg combined. Both engines are available with a
six-speed SKYACTIV-MT six-speed manual in addition to the automatic transmission, providing a sought-after option
for purists.

MORE MATURE DESIGN

The 2017 Mazda3 receives a further polishing of its exterior

design that further highlights visual width, maturity and a
look of solidity on the road. Its redesigned front grille exudes
a stronger three-dimensional appearance and depth, giving
the vehicle a wider and lower stance.

Its Mazda badge and license plate holder are positioned

lower on the front grille than the previous year’s model,
further accentuating the lower center of gravity. Mazda3’s
headlights now come standard with clear-lens halogen or
optional all-LED headlights with auto levelling, the latter of
which are now available in the Premium Equipment Package
exclusive to Grand Touring models. Mazda3’s fog light bezels
are smaller and now display LED beams instead of yellow
halogen light, sitting under a horizontal line that stretches
across the front of Mazda3.

MORE MATURE DESIGN - CONTINUED
New for 2017 are redesigned 18-inch wheels, which are
available on Touring and Grand Touring trim levels. Five-door
models receive a redesigned rear bumper, which extends an
upscale, monochromatic look to the lower valences that is
emphasized by a lower and wider stance.
A total of eight body colors are available in the U.S. New
colors for Mazda3 include:
- Machine Gray Metallic
- Sonic Silver Metallic
- Eternal Blue Mica (a new color to Mazda)
Other colors include Soul Red Metallic, Deep Crystal Blue
Mica, Titanium Flash Mica, Jet Black Mica and Snowflake
White Pearl Mica.
QUIETER, REFINED INTERIOR
There’s no doubt that the new interior design for the
2017 Mazda3 further enhances Mazda’s unique driver-
centric philosophy. Higher-quality features have been
implemented in the cabin to provide both drivers and
passengers with a more comfortable and quieter ride.
Mazda3 is back in the competition within its segment with
a quieter cabin environment for the 2017 model year.
With added noise suppression and a retuned suspension,
Mazda3 provides a 3db quieter ride at 25 mph over rough
roads, complementing Mazda3’s redesigned, upscale
interior.
Drivers can run their fingertips along a leather-wrapped
steering wheel that has been redesigned for 2017 for a more
comfortable grip. A lot of research went into studying how
drivers grip a steering wheel and what shape would provide
the best grip paired with the ideal materials that would
achieve this—just another example of how Mazda obsesses
over the details to create the best driving experience, even
down to the physical touch points. For the Grand Touring
trim level, the steering wheel is also available with heating
elements, a rare feature in the compact class that will
make winter driving more comfortable and safer for the
drivers in the regions that see more of the winter season.
An Electronic Parking Brake (EPB) now comes standard

For the interior colors, owners will have a choice between a
new seat design with either black or sand cloth in Mazda3
Sport models; black leatherette in Mazda3 Touring models;
or a choice of black or parchment leather. The black leather
interior features newly-adopted espresso-colored accents
that add a touch of depth and enhance the overall quality
of the cabin.

across all trims with the switch sitting just to the left
of the Commander control knob. As it has now freed
up additional space for storage, a new center console
makes its way into Mazda3 providing the driver and front
passenger with more flexible storage complete with a
cupholder cover. Speaking of additional space, the front
doors have expanded storage—three times larger than the
previous door pockets.
An available, new full-color Active Driving Display (ADD)
greets drivers once they’re in the driver’s seat, complete
with a clearer and better-integrated MAZDA CONNECTTM
display. The ADD is brighter and has better definition and
contrast than the previous monochromatic display, making
it easier to read at a glance.
SAFETY FIRST

Mazda cares just as much about your precious cargo as you do. That’s why Mazda is including more safety features at
more accessible price points to provide drivers and passengers with enhanced peace of mind. The Insurance Institute
for Highway Safety (IIHS) awarded the 2017 Mazda3 as a “Top Safety Pick+,” having been subjected to a gruelling array
of collision and pre-collision safety evaluations. New for the 2017 test, Mazda3 also had to pass a headlight evaluation,
which weeded out many competitors.

Smart City Brake Support (SCBS) and Advanced Blind Spot Monitoring (ABSM) with Rear Cross Traffic Alert are now
included in the mid-level Mazda3 Touring as standard equipment. SCBS operates between 2 and 19 mph, automatically
applying the brakes during emergency situations in order to lessen the severity of an impending and inescapable collision.
ABSM assists in detecting objects in the driver’s blind spots, detecting from as much as 164 ft. away—a greater distance
than Mazda3 enjoyed previously. In addition, the Grand Touring trim level comes available with Traffic Sign Recognition
(TSR) and Lane Keep Assist (LKA), both which are new for the model year. TSR displays the identified speed limit in the
ADD and LKA can perform minor steering corrections to help guide vehicles back to the lane when it senses potential
unintentional lane departure.

Other safety and security highlights for the 2017 Mazda3 include:

PACKAGING AND PRICING
Mazda3 returns refined and repackaged with more standard
content that make up a compelling story for those who
are looking for a practical, attractive and efficient vehicle
that can take on anything from a morning commute to a
weekend adventure on roads less travelled with aplomb.
In terms of packaging and pricing, the 2017 Mazda3 offers
customers a wide range of features and amenities that
satisfy any budget. The four-door sedan has packages on
each trim level, and the five-door hatchback comes with
more standard equipment than its predecessor—each suited
to different drivers with varying needs and wants.
Entry Mazda3 Sport models come standard with power
mirrors, variable-intermittent wipers, power windows,
power door locks, remote keyless entry, push-button start,
and a seven-inch MAZDA CONNECTTM display that integrates
Bluetooth hands-free pairing and audio stream.
Mazda3 Sport sedan models can be further upgraded with
the Sport Preferred Equipment Package, which includes
16-inch alloy wheels, heated side mirrors with integrated
turn signal lamps, Advanced Blind Spot Monitoring, Rear
Cross Traffic Alert, rain-sensing wipers, automatic on/off
headlights, bright beltline trim, premium cloth-trimmed
sport seats and satin trim throughout the interior, among
other equipment. These features are not available on five-
door Mazda3 Sport models except for the 16-inch alloy
wheels, which are standard equipment.
Mazda3 Touring sedan and five-door models build upon the
Sport with Preferred Equipment Package with a new-design
18-inch wheel package, Smart City Brake Support, dual-
zone automatic climate control, Mazda Advanced Keyless
Entry, six-way power driver’s seat with manual lumbar
adjustment, heated leatherette front seats and a leather-
wrapped shifter knob and steering wheel.
Available on the Touring is the Popular Equipment Package,
which adds a rear decklid spoiler, shark-fin antenna, BOSE®
nine-speaker Premium audio system, SiriusXM satellite
radio with a four-month subscription, power moonroof,
overhead sunglasses holder and illuminated vanity mirrors.

New for 2017 is the Touring 2.5-liter five-door trim level,
a bundle with an incredible value that Mazda is excited to
offer on Mazda3. With a starting MSRP from $22,395, the
Touring 2.5-liter trim level comes with the 184-horsepower,
SKYACTIV-G engine, 18-inch wheels, heated leatherette
seats, Smart City Brake Support and Advanced Blind Spot
Monitoring with Rear Cross Traffic Alert, among other
features. A six-speed automatic transmission is available
and this trim level provides more value than the outgoing
2.0i Grand Touring.
Above the Touring 2.5-liter five-door trim level, Mazda3
Grand Touring offers additional added value with a black
metallic finish grille insert, LED fog lights and shark fin
antenna. Inside, the GT comes standard with analog
tachometer, digital speedometer, BOSE® nine-speaker
Premium audio system with Centerpoint 2 and AudioPilot
2, full-color ADD, perforated leather-trimmed seats and
SiriusXM satellite radio with a four-month subscription.
For 2017, there are three new packages available for the
Grand Touring trim level:
- The Premium Equipment Package comes with Bi-LED
headlights with auto levelling, pivoting adaptive front-
lighting system, LED combination taillights, LED daytime
running lights, heated steering wheel, paddle shifters
on the steering wheel (for the AT only), Mazda navigation
system and auto-dimming interior mirror with Homelink.
- The i-ACTIVSENSE Safety package bundles up a new
group of safety technologies that add an extra layer of
confidence for drivers and peace of mind for passengers.
The package comes with High Beam Control, Lane
Departure Warning System, Lane Keep Assist, Mazda
Radar Cruise Control, Smart Brake Support and Traffic
Sign Recognition.
- The i-ELOOP Package has been decoupled from the
outgoing model packaging. The regenerative engine
braking system and active grille shutters are sure to be
appreciated by city-traffic drivers looking to make the
most out of applying the brakes when needed.
