Rubric 20-1: Pre-Service Procedure

PREPARATION
BEFORE BEGINNING, REFERRED TO MILADY STANDARD FOUNDATIONS AND PERFORMED:
P5-1 HAND WASHING AND P5-2 CLEANING AND DISINFECTING NONPOROUS, REUSABLE ITEMS.
A. BASIC TABLE SETUP
1. Cleaned and disinfected manicure table and drawer with
EPA-approved disinfectant, according to product directions.
2. Positioned cushion or folded towel on edge of the table in front
of client.
3. Placed lint-free disposable cloth on table. Replaced cloth as
needed.
4. Placed abrasives and buffers of choice on table to your right (or
left, if left-handed). Wrapped files in towel if not starting the
service immediately.
5. Set out tools and implements.
6. If using finger bowl, filled with warm water and placed on left
or right of table. Placed manicure brush next to finger bowl.
7. Had trash receptacle with self-closing lid available for
disposing used materials during service.
8. Placed needed supplies and products on table by your
dominant hand.
B. GREETED THE CLIENT
9. Greeted client. Asked for completed intake form from new
clients.
10. Escorted client to hand washing area and instructed as needed.
11. Showed client to your manicure table and ensured their
comfort.
12. Discussed intake form information and determined course of
action for the service.
C. WASHED HANDS AND PUT ON GLOVES
13. Washed your hands thoroughly and put on clean gloves.
