What is depression?
Overview
Teen depression is a severe mental illness that results in a lingering sense of
melancholy and a lack of interest in activities. It has an impact on your
adolescent's thoughts, feelings, and behaviours and can lead to emotional,
practical, and health issues. While depression can strike at any age,
adolescent and adult symptoms could differ.
Teens may have highs and lows due to issues like peer pressure, changing
bodies, and scholastic expectations. However, for some teenagers, the lows
are a sign of depression rather than merely passing emotions.
Teen depression takes long-term care and can have catastrophic
implications, so it's not something that can be conquered easily or with
effort.
Signs and symptoms
A shift from the adolescent's prior attitude and behaviour is one of the
indications and symptoms of teen depression, and it can result in serious
unhappiness and issues at home, at school, in social situations, and in other
aspects of life.
The intensity of depression symptoms varies, but your teen's emotions and
behaviour may exhibit any of the following changes.
