I am writing to share some inspiring news. Recently, we have
received numerous enquiries from members of different
associations expressing their interest in becoming members of
the Chiropractic Doctors' Association of Hong Kong (CDAHK). It
is heartening to see that our leadership's example of “actions
speak louder than words” is resonating far and wide.
At CDAHK, we firmly believe in leading by example. We
welcome members from different organizations who are eager
to learn, yearn to lead, and aspire
to set a standard through their actions. Our influence extends
beyond our own association. As you are aware, we actively
involve in numerous government committees and local
organizations, where we advocate for the roles and
responsibilities that chiropractors should undertake.
One of the core principles of our association is our commitment
to support and empower each other. We aim to foster and
enhance the profession alongside each member. Our spirit of
camaraderie and continual improvement has been recognized
globally, earning us top awards, including the highest honor
bestowed by the World Federation of Chiropractic.
CDAHK is excited to extend our invitation to chiropractors who
would like to be a part of a community that truly embodies the
principles of chiropractic and aims to make a positive impact
locally and abroad, to join us! Currently we would like to offer a
waiver of our membership fee for the period of Jan 1, 2024-Mar
31, 2024 for any new applicants who would like to join us in

1. "HOW WOULD YOU DESCRIBE THE INITIAL
REACTIONS AND ATTITUDES TOWARDS
CHIROPRACTIC WHEN YOU FIRST STARTED
PRACTICING IN HONG KONG?

Hong Kong in the 1980s was a vast,

uncharted territory for chiropractors.
With only seven of us, the challenge
to serve an overwhelming
population of over six million was
daunting. I joined an old chiropractic
association with a heart full of hope
and determination, hoping it would
be a vessel for change and a beacon
of hope in this unexplored
landscape. However, the enthusiasm
was not reciprocated; the reception
was frosty and filled with skepticism.
Despite the cold reception, the
potential was undeniable. It was as if
we were standing at the edge of an
unexplored land, ready to stake our
claim and plant the seeds of a new
medical paradigm.
WHAT WERE SOME OF THE BIGGEST
CHALLENGES YOU FACED WHEN ADVOCATING
FOR THE RECOGNITION AND REGULATION OF
CHIROPRACTIC IN HONG KONG? 2.
Our mission was two-fold: defending our profession
and educating the populace about the value of
chiropractic. The medical community, with its long-
established roots and influence, loomed large, casting
a shadow of doubt and skepticism over our efforts. It
felt like being in a boxing ring with a heavyweight
champion, always on the defensive, always fighting to
prove our worth. As one of the few first language
Chinese chiropractors, I felt the weight of this
challenge keenly. It was like Atlas holding up the
world, bearing the immense pressure of bridging the
gap between Eastern and Western medical
philosophies.

3. EXPERIENCE AND INVOLVEMENT IN THE

COURT CASE AGAINST THE HONG KONG
MEDICAL ASSOCIATION?

The medical council's charges of fraud against Drs Alan Chan,

Alexandra Yuan, and myself were like a tsunami that swept over us
without warning. Accused of falsely using the title of doctor, we found
ourselves in a legal quagmire, stripped of our professional dignity and
thrown into the voracious jaws of the legal system. The old association,
our supposed ally, turned its back on us and only shared minimum
support. Their cold dismissal was akin to a betrayal, a knife in the back
that left us feeling abandoned and alone in a hostile wilderness.
Despite the setbacks, we were not defeated. Our legal team, including
Francis Eddy Q.C., three Barristers, and a retired judge, stood as a
bulwark against the onslaught. They were our knights in shining
armor, defending us against the accusations and fighting for justice.
The court recognized the truth — we were doctors of chiropractic, not
charlatans. The verdict was a breath of fresh air in a suffocating ordeal.
It was a victory, not just for us but for all chiropractors in Hong Kong.

The subsequent actions of the association were a sickening display of

hypocrisy. Like a chameleon changing its colors to suit its
surroundings, the association tried to claim credit for our victory. Their
behavior was a gross distortion of the truth that left a bitter taste, a
searing reminder of their disloyalty.

WHAT IMPACT DID THE COURT CASE VICTORY HAVE

4. ON THE CHIROPRACTIC PROFESSION IN HONG

KONG?

The court case victory was a turning

point, leading to the government
drafting Bill 428, which officially
recognized and regulated
chiropractic in 1992. The victory was
sweet but marred by the sight of
some local colleagues, who had
contributed nothing to our struggle,
basking in the glow of our hard-
earned success. Their blatant
opportunism was a stark reminder of
their true colors. It was like watching
a group of scavengers picking at the
scraps of a feast they had done
nothing to prepare.

RECOGNIZED CHIROPRACTIC IN HONG
KONG AFTER YOUR CASE?

The next hurdle was educating the public about the

distinct roles of a chiropractor and an allopathy doctor
(medical doctor). We undertook a massive public
education campaign, pouring our hearts and souls into a
mission to enlighten the public about the unique value of
chiropractic care. This included a 1/4 page advertisement
in Hong Kong’s major newspapers, an announcement
that served as a declaration of our legitimacy.
Some old time chiropractic colleagues, however,
continued to act like selfish politicians, riding on our
coattails and taking credit for assisting the government in
drafting the bill. The Bill, which took over 12 painstaking
months to pass, was finally signed by Sir Ford in 1992.
Disillusioned by the chiropractic politician’s actions,
Alexandra Yuan and I left the association. We chose to
walk away from the hypocrisy and self-serving narrative,
to carve our path away from the association that had
betrayed us.

6. HOW HAS THE PERCEPTION OF CHIROPRACTIC

CHANGED IN HONG KONG SINCE ITS FORMAL
RECOGNITION?

Today, chiropractic is recognized by the majority of Hong Kong’s

population. We see many patients seeking relief from chronic pain, turning
to chiropractic asa viable and effective alternative to traditional medical
treatments. It's a heartening sight, to be sure, but it's also a stark reminder of
the ongoing struggle. Despite our victories, the need for further public
education is still urgent. Misconceptions and skepticism persist, like
stubborn weeds that refuse to be uprooted completely.
I fervently hope that the new generations of chiropractors will carry forward
our legacy, standing tall against any hardships they may face. They should
wear the title of "chiropractor" with pride, just as we did, undeterred by the
trials we faced. We should be proud to be chiropractors, and our successors
deserve to feel the same. The journey has been arduous, fraught with
adversity and betrayals, but the fight for recognition, for acceptance, is a
fight worth persevering.
Reflecting on the past, I feel a mixture of emotions. There's pride, of course,
for the battles we've won, for the progress we've made. But there's also
anger and disgust for the way older generations of chiropractors handled
the situation, for their selfishness and opportunism. Yet, I refuse to let these
negative emotions overshadow the positive ones. We've come a long way,
and we have much further to go. And we will get there, one step at a time.

(WFC) Biennial Congress. Dr. Chu is
the first Chinese recipient of this
accolade, reflecting his exemplary

The WFC, a non-

In 1991, the Council of the World
Federation of Chiropractic (WFC)
resolved that it would create the WFC
Honor Awards as the highest honor it
had in its power to bestow.
The awards recognize exceptional and
distinguished services which have
advanced the international growth and
acceptance of the chiropractic
profession. The first recipients of the
awards were Henrich Buchbinder,
William Kirkaldy-Willis and Donald
Sutherland.
In total, only 33 individuals have been
honored by the WFC in this way. At the
WFC's 13th Biennial Congress, held in
2015 in Athens, Greece, it was
determined that henceforth the WFC
Honor Awards in recognition of Mr.
David Chapman-Smith, who served as
Secretary-General of the WFC
between1988 and 2015.

Kong College of Chiropractic will build a new

Moreover, our new chiropractic education
program will serve as a platform fostering

facilitate research partnerships, contributing

strategic location provide a unique
advantage. The College will draw a diverse
student body and faculty, enriching the
educational experience with the exchange
of ideas and cultural perspectives. It will
also attract talents from neighboring
countries, sparking a dynamic chiropractic
community in the region.

Our expedition, initiated in 2012 with
Professor Christina Cunliffe, was marked
by numerous consultations, meticulous
planning, and relentless dedication. Even
amid global disruptions like the COVID-19
pandemic, we forged ahead with our
mission for chiropractic education.
Today, as the college welcome the
inaugural batch of students, we are
grateful for the support of Professor
Cunliffe of McTimoney College of
Chiropractic, Professor Richard Brown,
World Federation of Chiropractic
Secretary-General, and Dr. Dr David Lam
Legislative Council of Hong Kong. Their
backing underscores the importance of
this momentous day.

Recently, it has come to our attention that many pain centers
are using the chiropractic profession as a means of soliciting
business, a practice that has given patients the false impression
that they will receive professional chiropractic care and more
attention at these centers. However, many patients visit these
pain centers only to find out that the main medical staff are not
necessarily registered chiropractors.
It has been reported that some pain centers have attracted
patients by offering trial prices and providing assessment and
treatment for low back pain. However, after receiving the
treatment, the patients were actually promoted by the
therapists and staff to buy high-priced treatment packages, and
the patients were "taught" to make fraudulent insurance claims
by issuing doctor's notes and making use of false documents to
make full claims to the insurance companies. Some lawyers
have pointed out that the sales practices of the center are
misleading and the patients have the chance to repudiate the
contract.
Chiropractors have unique expertise in treating muscular pain
problems. They utilize non-surgical techniques such as
manipulation, ࿼neurological therapy, pediatric ࿼therapy,
mechanical ࿼rehabilitation, and postural methods to correct
spinal abnormalities in order to alleviate the patient's pain.
Chiropractic treatments are not only effective in relieving
patients' pain, but also in improving their quality of life. Many
chiropractors of the CDAHK hold diplomas in different
chiropractic disciplines and are capable of handling complex
symptoms.
As representatives of the majority of chiropractors in Hong
Kong, we strongly condemn any illegal practices that mislead
and deceive consumers and insurance companies, and urge all
pain centers to treat all patients in a professional and honest
manner. We also urge patients to conduct thorough research
and communicate fully with professionals before receiving any
medical services to ensure that they receive truly professional
and effective medical services.
CDAHK will continue to monitor this incident and provide
assistance to the relevant departments where necessary to
ensure that the rights of the public are not infringed upon.
CDAHK has recently expressed concern about the chronic
shortage of public healthcare services, with waiting times for
some specialist consultations measured in years. We believe
that doctors of chiropractic (chiropractors) can provide an
effective solution to this problem.
According to the latest figures, from October last year to
September this year, the waiting time for stabilized new cases
in the orthopaedic and ear, nose and throat specialties has
continued to rise, reaching over 100 weeks. Among them, the
waiting time for orthopaedics in Hong Kong West, Kowloon
Central, Kowloon West and New Territories East has even risen
straight up.
To address this issue, the association calls on the Government
and the public to recognize and utilize the services of
chiropractors. Chiropractors are an important part of the health
care system, specializing in problems of the nervous, muscular
and skeletal systems, and have the ability to examine, diagnose
and treat the spine. Their competence and services can relieve
the pressure on specialist outpatient clinics and reduce waiting
time for patients.
We believe that chiropractors' services can be part of the
solution. Better integration of chiropractors into the healthcare
system could greatly relieve the pressure on specialist
outpatient clinics and allow more patients to receive necessary
medical care in a timely manner!

Our WFC Secretary-General delivered a

passionate and sincere sharing at the
opening ceremony, detailing how CDAHK
overcame numerous challenges to establish
the status of chiropractic in Hong Kong and
drive the development of spinal health in
Asia.

He eloquently narrated the evolution of

CDAHK and how we persisted in the face of
adversity. He stressed our relentless efforts
in promoting the chiropractic profession,
raising public awareness about spinal
health, and the establishment and
development of the Hong Kong Chiropractic
College.

Over the past two days, we have had the
honor of representing the chiropractic
community of Hong Kong at the World
Federation of Chiropractic (WFC) World
Members Meeting.
We shared our recent exciting and
humbling achievements:
We actively participated in public
consultations on critical healthcare
policies, ensuring our voice was
heard.
We introduced the benefits of
chiropractic care to key stakeholders,
fostering collaboration and
strengthening relationships.
We established a self-funded
Chiropractic College and received
accreditation and quality assurance
from the Hong Kong Education
Bureau.
Although we have achieved significant
victories, we are no strangers to
challenges. Despite the opposition, our
commitment to transparency,
professionalism, and unity remains
unwavering.
We have contributed to global efforts in
public health, research, disability
rehabilitation, and tobacco control
strategies. We are proud to have won
three "World Spine Day" awards in 2022
and have made contributions in case
report research.
In our report, we acknowledged the
efforts of all key stakeholders. “Hong
Kong, a region with a population of 7
million and a rich history, and CDAHK has
always stood firm against adversity. When
we underwent major social turmoil and
political transformation, we seized a rare
opportunity—a chance that we fully
capitalized on.”

WFC ASSEMBLY OF MEMBERS TAKES
PLACE IN QUEENSLAND. Earlier this
week, the WFC held its annual Assembly
of Members in Gold Coast, Queensland.
The first in-person event of its kind since
2019, the Assembly brought together
representatives of over 40 national
association WFC members.
The Assembly included reports from
countries, presentations from various
WFC committees and the launch of the
WFC’s new 2024-2029 Strategic Plan. It
also featured the John Sweaney Lecture,
presented by the first African to have
been given the Honor, Dr. Mufudzi
Chihambakwe.

CDAHK pursuit of excellence and unwavering commitment to
the chiropractic profession. Dr. Eric Chu, our esteemed
Chairman and the founder of the Hong Kong College of
Chiropractic, recently engaged in a full-time discussion and
series of meetings with the International Board of Chiropractic
Examiners (IBCE) along with numerous chiropractic program
directors worldwide.
The IBCE is a renowned body established to promote
excellence in chiropractic healthcare and safeguard the public
by licensing only those chiropractors who exhibit specific
international chiropractic competencies. It seeks to promote
international standardization of chiropractic education and
assessment, providing tests customized based on information
from local chiropractic educational institutions, field
practitioners, subject specialists, and other interested
stakeholders.
CDAHK's engagement with the IBCE and other international
counterparts is a testament to our unwavering commitment to
setting and maintaining the highest standards in chiropractic
education and practice. Over several intensive sessions,
CDAHK and his global counterparts engaged in rigorous
discussion, sharing experiences, challenges, and success
stories from their respective regions.
These meetings provided an exceptional platform to exchange
ideas, discuss best practices, and establish a shared
understanding of the chiropractic profession's future. CDAHK
was able to share our successes and challenges in Hong Kong,
offering invaluable insights from our own journey that may
serve to inform and inspire other regions.

OF WFC. The IBCE team was out in force
in Australia, supporting not just its
Congress with sponsorship of the Poster
Awards but also its Assembly of Members
and international test meeting.

powerful presentation at the Assembly
outlining the work of IBCE and its
collaborative efforts with the WFC.

Dear Members of the Legislative Council of Hong Kong,

On behalf of the Chiropractic Doctors Association of Hong Kong (CDAHK), we are writing to express
our views on "Welfare Support for People with Disabilities". We commend the Hong Kong
government's dedication to providing a diverse range of rehabilitation and vocational rehabilitation
services for people with disabilities, and we firmly believe that these services play an integral role in
aiding individuals with disabilities to assimilate into society.

In light of the persistent shortage of medical resources in Hong Kong, we advocate for the inclusion of
chiropractic services in the government's rehabilitation services for people with disabilities.
Chiropractic care provides a unique approach to health with a focus on the neuromusculoskeletal
system [1]. Chiropractors can enhance the quality of life and physical function of individuals with
disabilities through effective pain management and nerve restoration techniques [2]. We urge the
government to incorporate chiropractic services into the spectrum of rehabilitation services, and
allocate the necessary resources to assure the accessibility and quality of these services.

Moreover, we posit that chiropractic services should also be encompassed within the realm of
vocational rehabilitation services. Given that chiropractors frequently treat patients who have suffered
workplace injuries, they are well-equipped to provide professional rehabilitation training and
preventive health education. This assistance not only improves the working capabilities and quality of
life for individuals with disabilities but also helps them secure suitable employment and alleviate their
burden of medical expenses....

The congress centers around the principle of
people-centred care, an approach that places
the needs, preferences, and values of patients
at the forefront. This approach understands
that each individual is unique and requires
care specifically tailored to their
circumstances. Patients are, after all, the core
reason behind our existence and practice.
The theme of this congress, 'Let's Start With
The Patient,' highlights our shared dedication
to people-centred care. It underscores the
essential role patients play in chiropractic
care, irrespective of geographical or
situational context.
The grand Gold Coast Conference and

Dr. Chu was tabled as the most prolific author of case

RESEARCH ON CHIROPRACTORS'
USE OF THRUST-CSMT RECEIVES
The Chiropractic Doctors Association of Hong Kong
(CDAHK) is proud to announce that Dr. Eric Chu's
groundbreaking research was recently presented at the
prestigious World Federation of Chiropractic (WFC)
Research Platform. His study, which focuses on the use of
manual thrust cervical spinal manipulative therapy
(thrust-cSMT) by chiropractors, was met with an
overwhelming positive response from the international
academic community.
Dr. Chu's research aimed to investigate whether less than
50% of surveyed Asia-Pacific chiropractors use thrust-
cSMT to treat musculoskeletal neck conditions, given its
potential contraindications. The study also sought to
explore the predictors of thrust-cSMT use.
In his presentation, Dr. Chu shared the rigorous process
of designing, validating, and achieving sufficient reliability
for the survey used in his research. The survey explored
chiropractors' characteristics, such as years in practice,
education level, time spent with patients, the importance
of subluxation, and their use of thrust-cSMT for
uncomplicated neck pain.
The research sample included 241 respondents from
over 15 countries, each with an average of 12.8±10.9
years in practice. The findings confirmed the hypothesis,
revealing that less than 50% of chiropractors reported
using thrust-cSMT for each vignette, including vertebral
artery insufficiency (14%) and stenosis (17%), Arnold-
Chiari type I (18%) and type II (5%), C5/6 ACDF (39%),
and C3-6 ACDF (27%).

The study also identified significant predictors of increased or
decreased use of thrust-cSMT, including time spent with new
patients, focus on subluxation, degree, group practice
environment, use of thrust-cSMT on a healthy patient, and
hours spent reading scientific literature.
Dr. Chu's research provides the first insights into
chiropractors' use of thrust-cSMT for complicated neck pain.
The findings revealed that most Asia-Pacific chiropractors
reported avoiding this treatment in the presence of potential
treatment contraindications. However, the study also found
that the use of thrust-cSMT in complicated neck pain may be
related to practice characteristics.
The audience responded enthusiastically to Dr. Chu's
presentation, offering numerous positive comments and
feedback. His work was applauded for its meticulous
methodology, innovative focus, and the practical implications
of its findings.

Dr. Chu started by delving into the core principles of
financial management, explaining how a solid financial
strategy is the backbone of a successful chiropractic
business. He emphasized the importance of proper
budgeting, revenue forecasting, and prudent
management of expenses, providing attendees with
practical tips to improve their financial management
skills.
Transitioning smoothly, he moved on to discuss the
operational excellence of a clinic. Here, he shared his
experiences of managing efficient and patient-centric
chiropractic clinics, emphasizing the importance of
streamlined processes, continuous staff training, and
maintaining a high standard of patient care. Dr. Chu's

The latter part of the workshop saw Dr. Chu discussing
strategies to expand chiropractic clinics to engage with
insurance and government operations. He discussed the

negotiation skills in securing government contracts and
partnerships.

AFTER WFC CONFERENCE
All CDAHK executive commttiies had attended the WFC conference this year in Australia as the only
presentative of Hong Kong. Eric Chu (Chairman) had just returned from a whirlwind of meetings,
from Australia and New Zelanad including the National Association Meetings, WFC Conference,
National Board Exams Meetings, and a Research Presentation. Despite the jet lag and exhaustion, he
dove straight back into his work, eager to share the triumphant news of the highest award in the
profession, earned by a Hong Kong chiropractor, under the "one country, two policy" scheme. It was a
testament to the city's pioneering role in chiropractic science and a moment of immense pride for all
Hong Kong chiropractors.

Meanwhile, Dr. Jacky Yeung (Public Relation Committee) was on a flight to Murdoch University,
carrying the torch of the association and region's collaborative discussions with a new educational
institute. His mission was to forge stronger ties and explore opportunities for education and research
collaborations, further strengthening Hong Kong's position in chiropractic science.p

In another part of the world, several executive committee members, including Drs Vincent Chan,
Albert Leung, Kary Lam, Valerie Chu, Lucina Ng, Kingsley Leung, had flown to the New Zealand
College of Chiropractic. They were there to learn about the incredible journey of the New Zealand
Chiropractic Association, which had established the New Zealand Chiropractic College 20 years ago
with just two rooms and 10 students. The college had since grown into a world-leading research
institute with 19 PhD students. It was an inspiring story of perseverance, vision, and unwavering
dedication to the advancement of chiropractic science.

Zealand morning, the board members of the
Chiropractic Doctors' Association of Hong Kong
(CDAHK), namely Drs. Eric Chu, Vincent Chan, Albert

Leung, found themselves at the threshold of the
esteemed New Zealand Chiropractic College. The
purpose of their journey was multifold - to connect, to
learn and to give back to the chiropractic community.

The President of the college, Dr. Kelly Holt, welcomed

geographical distance between Hong Kong and New
Zealand. Her introduction set the tone for the day,

Following the warm welcome, the renowned Dr. Heidi Haavik
took over as the guide. She showed the committee around the
college, introducing them to the cutting-edge facilities and
resources dedicated to nurturing the 100 new chiropractic
students enrolled each year. The enthusiasm and dedication
evident in every corner of the college was a testament to the
thriving chiropractic education in New Zealand.

The tour took a nostalgic turn when Dr. Lucina Ng reunited

with her former professor. The meeting was a poignant
reminder of the enduring bonds formed in the pursuit of
knowledge and the shared commitment to chiropractic care.

The visit took on an even more special meaning when CDAHK

decided to donate their latest book to the college library. This
valuable resource was their way of giving back to the global
chiropractic community, ensuring that future chiropractors,
particularly those of Chinese descent, would have access to
insights on CDAHK and the development of chiropractic care in
Asia.

As the day drew to a close, the board members of CDAHK departed

from the New Zealand Chiropractic College enriched with new
experiences, connections, and a renewed sense of purpose. This
day was not just a visit; it was a beautiful chapter in the ongoing
story of global collaboration and unity in the world of chiropractic

the verdant landscapes and bubbling geysers, the
Funnell Family Chiropractic clinic stands as a beacon of
holistic health and wellness. As the doors of the clinic
swung open one sunny afternoon, a group of dedicated
individuals from the Chiropractic Doctors' Association
of Hong Kong (CDAHK) stepped inside. The executive
committee, including Dr. Lucina Ng, Vincent Chan,
Albert Leung, Valerie Chu, Kary Lam, and Kingsley
Leung, had just completed their participation in the
World Federation of Chiropractic - WFC conference in
Australia, and were now embarking on a unique journey
of learning and exploration in New Zealand.

each with their unique approach to wellness, family

Drs Albert Leung and Valerie Chu delved into the realm of wellness

Dr. Kary Lam, and Kingsley Leung, armed with their passion for
chiropractic education and research, engaged in enriching
discussions on the latest advancements in the field. They shared
the key takeaways from the World Federation of Chiropractic - WFC
conference, fostering a sense of global community and shared
purpose.

This visit was not just an exchange of ideas and experiences. It was
a touching story of camaraderie, shared passion, and the relentless
pursuit of knowledge. The CDAHK executive committee left Funnell
Family Chiropractic inspired and invigorated, carrying with them
newfound insights and memories of an enriching experience, ready
to enhance the world of chiropractic care back home in Hong Kong.

published by CDAHK. This

University. The book is

Dr. Yeung's visit was not merely a tour; it was
a strategic encounter aimed at fostering
collaboration between the Hong Kong
Association and the Murdoch University
College of Chiropractic. The goal of this
partnership was to bridge the gap between
Western and Eastern chiropractic practices,
facilitating an exchange of knowledge and
techniques that would benefit both students

As part of the visit, Dr. Yeung had the
opportunity to engage in in-depth discussions
with the faculty of Murdoch University.

education.

We are deeply moved and honored to share a heartfelt
message of appreciation from Dr David Lam, our
Legislative Council of Hong Kong (Healthcare). In his
letter, he acknowledged the monumental achievement of
our esteemed chairman, who was awarded the "David
Chapman-Smith Honor" at the biannual meeting of the
World Federation of Chiropractic - WFC

Dr. Lam writes, "Your outstanding achievements fully

demonstrate Hong Kong's strength in the field of
chiropractic medicine. It is a testament to the unique
advantage of 'one country, two systems' and the super
connection between our country and overseas."
We wholeheartedly echo Dr. Lam's sentiments. This
international honor is not just an affirmation of Dr.
Chu's leadership talent but also proof that Hong Kong is
brimming with opportunities. It is a testament to our
belief that those who have the capability will indeed be
the first to get there.

We also share Dr. Lam's vision for the future of

healthcare in Hong Kong. With an aging population and
a rapid increase in chronic non-communicable diseases,
there is a pressing need to shift our focus from
"emphasis on treatment over prevention" to "prevention
first, community-centered" approach.
We, at CDAHK, are committed to making good use of Legislative
Hong Kong's specific advantages, integrating East and
West elements into chiropractic practice, and cultivating Council of HK
a new generation of chiropractors. We are dedicated to

golden opportunity to delve into this topic with one of the world’s leading experts, Associate Professor
Dr. Peter Tuchin.

Dr. Tuchin, a veteran with over 35 years of academic, clinical, and research experience, is a renowned
specialist in the field of migraine, headache, chronic pain, and vertebral artery dissection. With over
60 publications in scientific journals and several books to his name, Dr. Tuchin's expertise is widely
recognized within the medical community.

This engaging seminar promises to bring invaluable insights into the complex world of headache
diagnosis and treatment options. Participants can look forward to a comprehensive exploration of the
latest evidence for the effectiveness of various treatments.

Dr. Tuchin's extensive experience and in-depth understanding of the subject matter, combined with

Given the prevalent nature of headaches and migraines and the significant impact they have on the
quality of life, this seminar will be particularly relevant to those in the medical field. It will equip

debilitating conditions.
 TRIBUTE OF DR.
GERRY CLUM
In the year 2000, the Chiropractic Doctors' Association of Hong
Kong (CDAHK) was born from the indomitable spirit and vision
of a handful of determined chiropractors. These pioneers had
changed the direction in promoting chiropractic in Hong Kong
and fought a tough legal battle against the medical council for
the right to be called doctors—a landmark victory that led to
the establishment of a new law. They finally separated from the
original stakeholding chiropractic organization to form the
CDAHK. Our beginnings were modest, and the association,
although vibrant and rapidly expanding, grappled with
countless challenges. CDAHK were particularly marginalized by
the global chiropractic community due to our non-membership
in the World Federation of Chiropractic (WFC).
As the years passed, despite the hardships, CDAHK had been
professionally active, pushing hard in public education,
improving clinical operation efficiency and listen hard to the
mainstream chiropractors, hence grew to become the most
prominent chiropractic association in Hong Kong quickly. It
was during this challenging era that we mustered the courage
to apply for membership in the WFC.
The original stakeholders discouraged us, claiming that our
application would undoubtedly be rejected due to their deep-
rooted relationship with the WFC. Undeterred by their
discouragement, we held firm to our resolution. During the
WFC's visit to Hong Kong, we were subjected to an intense
one-hour session filled with baseless accusations from the
original stakeholders. They vilified us as overly commercial,
accused us of deceptive practices, and claimed we adjusted
patients without consent—all without substantial evidence.
Their slanderous words resonated among our colleagues,
leaving us shocked and dispirited.
During this crucial interview, Dr. Gerry Clum, the former
president of the WFC, quietly observing from the sidelines,
attentively following every bit of our discussion. In the midst of
this difficult situation, Life University unexpectedly stepped up
to defend us, with Dr. John Downs leading the charge.
In the aftermath of the grueling session, we received a call from
Dr. Clum. Despite this being our first interaction, he introduced
himself with grace and diplomacy, offering a clear-eyed
analysis of our predicament. He put forth a solution: the
creation of a federation of chiropractic to circumvent the 'one
country, one association' policy.
Dr. Clum's proposition was not just a lifeline; it was a beacon of
hope that guided us on our path towards achieving our goal:
connecting with global resources to build the profession and
establish a school. We were an organization that prioritized
action and practicality.
With Dr. Clum's guidance and unwavering support, the WFC
granted us the membership we had long yearned for. His
support extended beyond this; he was also the first chiropractic
college president who generously offered scholarships to
Hong Kong students to study at Life West Chiropractic College.
Despite the continuous accusations from the original
stakeholders, now a significantly diminished association, their
words gradually lost their potency. We staunchly believed that
respect was earned through actions, not merely words.
Today, Gerry rests in heaven. The CDAHK cherishes his
memory as our guiding giant, a figure of strength and wisdom
in our journey. His legacy will forever inspire us as we continue
to grow and nurture the profession we love. Through every
tribulation, Dr. Clum's wisdom and guidance were our beacon
of light, guiding us to overcome our struggles. Rest in peace,
Dr. Clum. Your memory lives on in the actions of every
chiropractor you touched, and your impact on our lives and the
profession will never be forgotten.
