Merry Christmas! Level 1B Alfred’s Basic Piano Library Merry Christmas! Willard A.Palmer + Morton Manus + Amanda Vick Lethco Level 1B This book may be used by students who have completed the first book of any method. CONTENTS ‘Angels We Have Heard on High Go Tell it on the Mountain Jingle Bells . . Jolly Old Saint Nicholas Silent Night . . ? Twelve Days of Christmas, The. We Wish You a Merry Christmas. Piano students who have completed the first book of any method will enjoy playing some familiar carols as the Christmas season approaches. HAND POSITIONS: Every carol in this book is in a five finger position. The basic positions used are C, Middle C, and Middle D. A chart indicating the hand position is placed at the beginning of each carol. If either hand moves, the new position is indicated above the measure where the change takes place. PROGRESSIVE ORDER: The carols are placed in order of difficulty, with the easiest ones first. The 1st (Jolly Old Saint Nicholas) contains only whole, half, and the quarter notes; the 2nd (We Wish You a Merry Christmas) adds eighth notes; the 3rd (Silent Night) adds dotted quarters. Students unfamiliar with dotted quarters plus eighths will usually play them correctly by memory or, if not, they can be quickly taught by rote. DUETS: Every carol in this book has a duet part. These carols make excellent student-teacher or student-parent duets. Both solo and duet parts contain measure numbers for easy reference. STUDENTS IN LEVEL 18 of ALFRED'S BASIC PIANO LIBRARY: Students in Level 1B are already familiar with the C position, In Lesson Book 1B, Middle C position is introduced on page 16; Middle D position on page 34; and eighth notes on page 21.
