This document provides instructions for an experiment on measuring the length of days and how it varies with latitude and seasons. It includes steps like ensuring the correct longitude is used, measuring the length of days at the summer solstice and equinoxes at different latitudes, and discussing potential sources of error like difficulties identifying the sun's position. Graphs of the results should be provided with titles and labeled axes.

Check List – 2S Earth and the Seasons (Stellarium Version)
1. Be sure you gave negative sign for the longitude.
2. PROCEDURE: A. LENGTH OF DAY - 1. How Long is the Day in Chapel Hill
During the Summer Solstice? |True value−Measured value| percentage error= ×100 % True value Percentage error is absolute value (positive)
3. Question: Discuss significant sources of error. (2 points)
Never use “calculation error, human error, rounding error, etc”. Discuss the difficulty you went through when you made the measurements. Do not discuss the error that you can resolve. For example, when you measure the sun rising and setting time the sources errors can be (1) difficulty identifying the sun's center due to the sun's glow, and (2) difficulty identifying the horizon with the trees and buildings (3) the solstice does not fall always on June 21st etc
4. PROCEDURE: A. LENGTH OF DAY - 2. How Does Length of Day Vary with
Latitude and Season?
Be sure you measured the lengths of equinoxes.
0 points if all equinox lengths of day = 12 hours (i.e., calculated, not measured).
5. Graphs Do not forget to give a title and axis names with units.
