OVERVIEW OF STREAMS INSTITUTE
We at Streams Ministries believe God is unveiling ancient, biblical ways of knowing part
of the fulfillment of the inspired prophecy recorded in Joel
2:28-29. Days will unfold when signs and wonders will increase in the Body of Christ,
and the world will see the greatest move of God since the birth of the Church at
Pentecost.
To prepare for the days ahead, the Holy Spirit is awakening our awareness about the
teachings of the biblical prophets and the desert fathers who walked in the deeper
things of God.
As the Holy Spirit draws us into the glorious realms of God's splendor, we deepen our
communion with God and receive revelation from Him. All revelation is given by the Holy
Spirit of God who searches the deep things of God and reveals them to us (1
Corinthians 2:10-12).
At Streams our students come from all walks of life and every church background. This
hunger for spiritual awakening transcends denominational lines. People are yearning to
know the living, eternal God. Pastors, leaders, and believers from almost every
denomination have enrolled in our courses to be equipped, matured, and empowered in
the Art of Hearing God. Annually Streams Ministries attracts thousands of students from
around the world. Their age range spans many decades.

awesome nature of God and to communicate His love to a dying world.

Can everyone hear from God?
If everyone can hear from God, why are there so few who actually do?
The Art of Hearing God is an introductory yet profound course that will give you step-by-step
instructions and practical tools to learn to hear the voice of the Lord clearly and consistently.
You will gain a delineated awareness of hearing that allows you to discover how or why you
sometimes miss God.
You will learn how to distinguish God’s voice from your own, recognize some seldom
understood ways the enemy limits your hearing even when God is shouting your instructions,
and train you to recognize hindrances that prevent you from hearing Him.
A driving focus of the course is the emphasis of character over gifting. Come and find out how
your character can enhance or impede your ability to hear God. These principles show you the
process of growth God uses to develop you into the type of person that will fulfill the destiny He
created you for.

Understanding Dreams and Visions
Does God speak through dreams? Why would He use such a mysterious form of communication?
What does that mean to you?
This course was developed by John Paul Jackson from more than 30 years of experience and
study, and has transformed many lives. Come and discover how God uses these messages

This advanced workshop helps you to use the principles learned in the Understanding Dreams
& Visions course and apply them directly in a hands-on environment.
Delve deeper into the God's metaphorical language and the spiritual recognition process by
interpreting dreams, visions, and other spiritual experiences—both yours and others.
Imagine someone in your family or circle of friends sharing a dream that has deeply impacted
them. You will be able to clarify the dream and share with them the God-given solution to the
dilemma they are facing. You will gain the skills necessary to unlock the metaphorical language
of heaven for yourself and others.
You will also gain the skills needed to participate in a "dream team" interpreting dreams in many

ABOUT THE AUTHOR
For more than a quarter of a century, John Paul Jackson has been helping people
discover and develop their spiritual gifts. He has directly impacted the lives of millions of
people around the world with his best-selling books and audio series, public speaking
engagements, and television appearances.
It was his great love for the Body of Christ that prompted John Paul, in 1993, to launch
Streams Ministries International—a non-profit organization that endeavors to

INTRODUCTION
Welcome to Streams Ministries.
The Art of Hearing God is the first step in recognizing how God speaks and prepares
us to hear His voice. Those who seek to understand and be used in the gifts of the Spirit
can, if they are properly trained, be valuable assets to the Church.
However, without training and maturity, such individuals can be a detriment to a church
body. "To whom much is given, from him much will be required," (Luke 12:48) reminds
the reader of the need to study and mature in the gifts. For this purpose, the
Bible further tells us to "study to show ourselves approved" (2 Timothy 2:15), and the
gifts are certainly no exception to this biblical mandate.

I. God is yearning to restore integrity, character, and credibility to revelatory

ministry.
In the Bible, God established schools of the prophets to enable revelatory-gifted

individuals to be mentored so they could grow in their gifting. God discerns between the
immature and a false use of the gift. God is perfecting, and will continue to perfect, that
which He has begun in us. Streams Ministries offers The Art of Hearing God course and
other courses for the purpose of helping you become all God intends you to be and to
fulfill your divine destiny.
All of us come from diverse backgrounds and experiences, but as the Body of Christ, we
hear from the same God.
A. God wants to speak to His people, and He will use any means to get our attention.
The Scriptures indicate that God uses a variety of elements to achieve this
purpose.
1. God desires to speak through righteous individuals as He did with the prophets
of old.
2. God can speak through unrighteous individuals such as Balaam.
3. God can speak through natural circumstances including economic, political,

geological, and meteorological events.
4. God can even speak through animals. Balaam's donkey was able to see in the
spirit realm and discern the angel of the Lord before Balaam did (Numbers
22:21-33).

II. God is calling us to place more emphasis on developing a strong and godly
character.
Godly character is of greater value than spiritual giftedness.
A. Often our gift and personal identity become entangled and confused, leading us to
perceive questioning or rejection of our "words" or "prophecies" as if it was
personal. We are subsequently hurt by pastors who judge our prophetic
utterances. Our personalized response to these painful situations is often hidden in
the verbal guise of "the Lord's wrath" or "righteous indignation," which we usually
direct toward those who did not receive the "word of the Lord." We rashly label
such people as "spiritually dull" or "unrepentant."
B. We fail to consider that in our immature state, we walk around displaying very little
true godly character and very little gift. The few times our gift operates in dynamic
ways are not enough to keep others trusting our ability to help. People need to see
a righteous lifestyle that consistently manifests the fruit of the Holy Spirit.

C. If we sense that God is calling us to be used in any type of ministry, we should fall
on our face in fear and trembling, be humbled and not puffed up, and accept the
winnowing, purifying process that is necessary for each of us to overcome our
character flaws.
D. Those who hear from God need to develop the Holy Spirit's fruit more than the
Holy Spirit's gifts.
