Pandemic Influenza Preparedness Plan

The training and exercise plan of mitigating and preventing the influenza pandemic

aims at the preparation of facilities, public health protocol, and a good response system in

case of a rapid infectious influenza event. In light of the latter, the plan offers preparation for

special consideration, robust health response, helping the physically challenged society (Hall

& Wolf, 2019). This paper aims at addressing the threats associated with the influenza

pandemic preparedness plan, how to mitigate them, and the most suitable exercise to curb this

pandemic.

However, several threats to the current plan are evident. Firstly, the current plan is

outdated which means that the potential impact on developing countries of another influenza

pandemic could be catastrophic (Knobler, 2005). Secondly, limitations o pharmaceutical

interventions are felt around the contemporary world, and thirdly, there is a fervent lack of

health infrastructure which would enable countries to cope with the influenza pandemic.

To curb these aforementioned threats, a modernized preparedness plan needs to be

developed which would champion reduced population density, improved housing conditions,

improved nutritional statuses, among others activities that would significantly prevent the

spread of the flu in developing countries. In the case of pharmaceutical interventions, the

government and WHO ought to delve into research to obtain drugs that the viruses would not

be resistant to after mutating (Knobler, 2005). This would be able to effectively curb the

spread of the flu and prevent immense loss of lives. In terms of health infrastructure, more

ventilators should be manufactured as currently minimal ventilators are available as proven

by the current COVID 19 flu (Hall & Wolf, 2019). The given interventions would be able to

mitigate, prevent, recover from, mitigate, and protect against adverse flu outcomes.

According to Hall & Wolf (2019), simulation exercises would be the ideal planning

mechanisms for the flu’s spread as they will be able to validate the plans set in place to curb

the fervently dangerous influenza flu outcomes.
