I have lived there all my life. That makes 34 years.

I grew up there and lived for 10 years. Then, we moved to Ankara. I have been living there/here for
15 years.

I grew up there and lived for 18 years. Then I came to Ankara to study at the university. During that
time, I always visited back my hometown. Then I started working in XX city. But, still I visit my
hometown quite often.

10. Where do you live?

I live with my parents/family/friends here in Ankara at the moment.

It is an apartment building in Yenimahalle. We live on the second floor.

It is in a quiet neighborhood. I like it very much.

It is in a noisy neighborhood. I like it very much, though.

It is close to transportation routes. The subway is just 5 minutes away and there is a bus stop right in
front of our apartment.

11. Can you tell me something about your hometown?

Sure. It is in the middle of Turkey. It has about 100.000 inhabitants. It has one heavy industry, which
is Petlas. It produces automobile and aircraft tires. In addition, my hometown is rich in history. There
are many mosques and monuments from ancient cultures like Seljuk Turks and Ottoman.

11. Can you tell me about some famous scenic spots in your hometown?

11. What are the main places of interest in your hometown? Why?

11. What places should foreigners visit in your hometown? Why?

Sure. Ankara has several beautiful lakes, first of all. Mogan is one of them. It is in Gölbaşı. There is a
recreation area around the lake. You can have a picnic there, or you can go for just walking and
watching the lake. Moreover, there are restaurants around the lake. You can invite your friends to
dinner, let’s say, and spend good time. Other than the lakes, we have many historical buildingsin
Ankara. Anıtkabir is themost important I guess. It is home to the grave of Atatürk. As you know, he is
the founder of Turkish Republic. Every visitor to Ankara should visit there at least once. They can find
pictures, artefacts, and some illustrations of the past.

12. What places do you like in your hometown best?

I like Kızılay the best. It is the downtown of Ankara. You can find everything there. There are shops,
restaurants, recreation centers, activities, and so on. You can find a variety of everthing there. There
is no way you can get bored there. I usually go there with my friends. First, we have lunch at a fast
food restaurant, then we go to a cafe and sit and chat for a while. Even sometimes, there are
concerts; and, they are free. So, we usually have good time there in Kızılay.

13. What are the main crops in your region?

Wheat is number one. It is the main nutrient in our diet. We can’t live without it because Turkish
people like bread a lot. For me, I cannot eat my meals without bread. Other than wheat, we also
cultivate rice and other crops.

14. What is the difference between Ankara and Kırşehir?

First of all Ankara is the capital city. However,Kırşehir is an ordinary one. Secondly, Ankara is a big city
with over 4 million inhabitants. Kırşehir has only around 100 thousand people. Moreover, Ankara has
many different industries and big industry centers like Ostim. These industries produce a variety of
goods. In contrast, Kırşehir has only one heavy industry, which is Petlas. It manufactures aircraft and
automobile tires. Other than Petlas, there are no significat industries. Only some minor ones.

15. What are the people like in your hometown?

15. Can you tell me something about the character of the people in your hometown?

Well, they are moderate. I mean, I cannot say they are very friendly, but ı cannot also say they are
hostile. They are in between. As you know, Ankara is a cosmopolitan city. There are a variety of
people from different parts of the country. They all have different cultural backgrounds. So, you can’t
get the same response from every person. Moreover, because it is a big city, people don’t trust each
other much. You have to know a person well before you can rely on them. There are also some
crimes, especially in certain parts of the city. But, I guess, it is the same with all other cities.
Nevertheless, I also have to mention that Ankara is the number one city which is selected as the
mostly liveable city of Turkey. I mean, despite all the minor concerns above, it is the safest, most
comfortable, and thus livebale city in Turkey. Many people are willing to settle here.

16. Are you a student or do you have a job?

I am a student at the moment. I am studying for Masters/PhD degre on a full-time basis at Gazi
University here in Ankara. I have classes in the mornings, afternoons, and evenings.

to be an engineer. And, I feel I am very close to be one, since I have 1 year left for graduation.

18. What do you like most about your studies?

Well, I guess thegroup work. Our lecturers often give us group assignments. We gather in groups of
four or five and work for couple weeks on a project. It is fun to be with my best friends and meeting
them both in the classroom and outside. Moreover, we learn a lot from each other. Everypne has an
expertise and different experiences. So weshare our viewpoints and gain new insights.

19. Which is the best university in Turkey?

I think there is no best university in all majors. I mean, all universites are specialized in one or two
areas. For instance METU is number one in its engineering majors. However, Hacettepe surpasses all
others in medicine. Likewise, Ankara University is famous for its Political Science and Gazi for its
Education majors.

20. Could you sum up your study habits?

I am an organized student. If I have an assignement, I usually make a schedule for myself, first. I
arrange my leisure activity times and study times. Then, I start off immediately to finish the
assignment beforehand. This way, I have no trouble with deadlines. Other than that,I usually prefer
studying with a friend. I like discussing and learning new information. This way, I both learn the
issues better, and develop new insights into them.

21. Do you think your present subjects are relevant to society?

Certainly. As I have just said, I am studying engineering. Since we are living in the age of technology,

24. Do you have a degree? If so, when and where did you graduate?

Yes. I have a Bachelors Degree/Masters Degree/ PhD Degree in Electronical Engineering. I graduated
in 2001 from METU. It is one of the best universities in my field. It has about XX thousand students.
