Four Curriculum Designs

1. Subject Centered- are organized in terms of subjects.

Four specific designs

1. Subject Design- curriculum is organized in terms of subjects like Math,


Science, Filipino, English and other subjects. Most of these subjects are
offered in Elementary level. Subjects are arranged in fragmented manner. To
provide students with general knowledge.
2. Academic Discipline Design- organized in terms of discipline like algebra,
physics, economics, chemistry, literature and other discipline. This discipline
is mostly used in secondary and tertiary. The content is highly specialized.
3. Integrated Design – based on the principles the learners learned in integrated
manner. Thus merging two or more subjects.

2. Learner Centered- focus on the needs, nature and interest of the learner. This aims to
develop the potential and abilities of the learners. To make curriculum relevant and
responsive to them.
a. Activity/ Experience Design- concentrates on activities that are meaningful
and interesting to the learners. Ex. Process, communication, problem-solving,
critical thinking and creativity skills.
b. Humanistic Design- humanistic development of the learners. It focus on the
needs and nature of the learners. The aim of this design is to develop a well-
rounded individual.
3. Problem Centered- focus on understanding and finding solution to individual social
issues and problems.

b. Problem design- problem solving on real life problem.
4. Core learning- learning a set of common subjects that is necessary for students to master.
It aims to provide uniform type of education based on a certain philosophy and theory.
