LAB 3: active filters design

Lab exercise
Design, simulate, mount and measure a second order LPF able to satisfy the following design mask:

TL081 and TL082 operational amplifiers are available (power supply 15 volts, RL=10kΩ).

DESIGN
Choose a filter approximation (Chebyshev is suggested) and relative grade (number of poles) in order
to satisfy the above specifications.

Determine the necessary number of cells of first and second order and relative parameters of each cell
using the normalized polynomial tables.

Design and simulate the full LPF listing the theoretical values of the passive components (de-
normalized).

Simulate the real transfer function using standard passive components (namely R and C, different from
the theoretical values obtained from the polynomial tables).

MEASUREMENTS
Mount at least one of the second order cells and verify its working behavior and relative parameters:

- amplification in pass band region

- resonance peak amplitude and position

ONLY if you have time: mount and verify all the other cells measuring the overall transfer function
and comparing it with the simulated one.
