I want him back

: Prison is the common way in most countries to solve the problem of crime. However, a more
effective solution is to provide people a better education. Do you agree or disagree?

Hardly a day goes by without the debate on how to solve the problem of crime. This raises an
issue of whether providing people with a better education is a more efficient way compared to
prison sentences. While I perceive the importance of education, I believe that it is better to
imprison criminals for their illegal acts.

On the one hand, it is reasonable why some people believe that a more efficient option is to give
people a better education. Education plays an extremely important role in raising people’s
awareness about not only the harm that they would cause to their victims but also the constant
fear that they would give to society by committing crimes. However, there are still several cases
in which the criminals are well-informed. For example, Ted Bundy was an honorary student who
was well-liked by professors and students alike at the University of Washington. Despite that, he
turned out to be one of the most infamous serial killers in US history, as he was convicted of
sexually assaulting and killing several young women.

On the other hand, there are several convincing reasons why prison sentences are
indispensable. This can be attributed to the fact that prison keeps lawbreakers such as
murderers, kidnappers, and sex offenders away from the general public. Therefore, people will
not have to live in fear of the possibility of being assaulted. Moreover, prison sentences act as a
deterrent against transgressions. When people are aware that they may have to spend years in
prison for their crimes, they will definitely reconsider committing such things.

In conclusion, it is safe to say that education and imprisonment tackle the problem of crime in
different ways; however, I strongly believe that prison is still a more effective solution.
