STEP 1 REFLECTIVE QUESTIONS

1. The difference between method and approach lies in their scope and application. A

method refers to a specific set of techniques or procedures used to teach a language,

while an approach is a broader philosophy or theoretical framework guiding the

teaching process. In simpler terms, a method is more practical and specific, detailing

how to teach, whereas an approach is more overarching, shaping the overall perspective

on language teaching.

2. Yes, I've faced challenges in my English learning journey. Sometimes it was difficult

to understand certain grammar rules or pronunciation nuances, and there were instances

where I felt frustrated with my progress. However, I've also experienced moments of

breakthrough and improvement, which motivated me to keep going.

3. Absolutely, a teacher can and often should use more than one English teaching

method. Each student has unique learning styles, preferences, and needs, so employing

a variety of methods allows the teacher to cater to diverse learners effectively.

Flexibility in teaching approaches enhances engagement and comprehension among

students.

4. English teaching methodologies encompass various strategies and techniques

employed to facilitate language learning. Some common methodologies include the

Direct Method, Communicative Language Teaching (CLT), Task-Based Learning

(TBL), and the Audio-Lingual Method, among others. My favorite methodology is

probably Communicative Language Teaching (CLT) because it emphasizes real-life

communication and interaction, making language learning more meaningful and

practical.
5. The role of the teacher inside the classroom is multifaceted. Beyond imparting

knowledge, teachers should create a supportive and engaging learning environment,

facilitate student participation and interaction, provide constructive feedback, adapt

teaching methods to suit individual needs, and inspire and motivate students to learn

and grow.

6. Materials used in English classes play a crucial role in the teaching process because

they serve as tools to facilitate learning and reinforce concepts. Well-chosen materials,

such as textbooks, audiovisual resources, authentic materials like newspapers or videos,

and interactive activities, can enhance students' comprehension, engagement, and

retention of language skills.

7. Motivation is closely linked to the English learning methodology applied by the

teacher in the classroom. When students find the teaching methods engaging, relevant,

and effective, they are more likely to feel motivated to participate actively and persist in

their language learning journey. Conversely, if the methodology fails to resonate with

students or seems disconnected from their interests and goals, motivation may wane.

8. My expectations for this course are to gain a deeper understanding of English

teaching methodologies, develop practical teaching skills, and acquire effective

strategies for engaging and empowering learners. I hope to enhance my ability to create

dynamic and inclusive learning environments that foster students' language proficiency

and confidence.
