1. Are designer clothes worth the expense?

3. Should there be a global minimum wage for workers in the manufacturing business?

Manufacturing business has become an increasingly huge industry in recent years.

This is the most effective way to provide jobs for poor and low-educated people.
Multinational companies want to make more profit than production costs. They see
cheap labour as a solution. They say that if they accept the demand for a global
minimum wage, it will be difficult to make a profit. Moreover, they claim that salaries
are enough for local people, but I believe a global minimum wage has to be especially
for local people because of two main reasons.

Some business owners say that thanks to cheap labour, unemployment is falling in
developing countries like Indonesia and India. If they pay a global minimum wage for
workers, they would have to lay off most of them. Yet, increasing salaries might be
possible without layoffs. Workers often work over 12 hours a day. Many companies
have bad conditions in their factories. These conditions are not humane. All these
problems lead to some health problems, like cancer. On top of that, workers receive a
low wage. They deserve better conditions and a minimum wage. If they have a good
salary, their labour potential increases.

Supporters of cheap labour think that increasing salaries are not necessary for
workers. They already receive as much as they work. However, many workers cannot
get by on a low budget because their salaries are not enough due to rising
expenditures. Many human rights defenders think that a global minimum wage is
necessary to stabilize the level of income. It is important to prevent unfair
implementation.

To sum up, although supporters of cheap labour have one right point about
providing jobs for local people. In my opinion, salaries should improve to increase the
quality of life. It is also important for increasing work efficiency.
